Tiffany's english name is Stephanie. She's probably called Tiffany because there's a sunbae named Stephanie in a girl group The Grace which came from the same company that Girls Generation did.
I have in my SNSD video collection an interview with Tiffany where she states that specifically, so not "probably"...you are correct {and she said her mother wanted to name her Tiffany instead of Stephanie, as well)
The reason she chose Tiffany as her stage name is her mom loving to name her with this name but his dad decided on Stephanie. So she chose that as her stage name in remembering of her mom who passed away when she was around 12
Their Fandom name "Sone" is pronounced as "So One". It's also can be pronounced as "Sowon" which means Wish. *소원* (wish) = 소훈을 말해봐 (Romanized: Sowoneul Malhaebwa Meaning: Tell Me Your Wish) Tell Me Your Wish / Genie is also Girls Generation's hit song.
At the very first time, our fandom named Honey (a song of the first album). And then the official named So won (S1) came from song Tell Me Your Wish. Girls Generation are Genie. Tell them your wish and they will make it come true
*STEPHANIE HWANG MIN YOUNG KOREAN HER NAME : HWANG MIN YOUNG ENGLISH NAME : STEPHANIE HWANG ANOTHER NAME : TIFFANY YOUNG BUT SHE'S MORE LIKE : TIFFANY (because her late mother gave the name Tiffany, while her father was Stephanie. That's why she chose the name Tiffany in memory of her dead mother.

There is a reason why SNSD is mooted as the greatest girl group to ever appear in the history kpop because their ability to come up with bangers again and again even after all these years is uncannily consistent. Their diversity across just their title tracks alone is astounding. Kpop is really lucky to have SNSD to be pushing vocal delivery and music experimentation boundaries,SNSD was also Queen of variety shows coz theyre so natural and dorks hahaha,They have lots of variety shows.【ps:I recommend one of the best snsd guides 【a girls' generation guide】ruclips.net/video/2vmvthBWsaA/видео.html,can help you understand more about this interesting girl group】
SNSD being an older group makes YT views an unreliable measure of both their impact on Kpop scene and quality of content relating to them. For example "Gee" MV's ~300 million views may seem modest by the standards of today's trendy groups but it was actually the first ever kpop group MV to hit 100 millions on the platform. It took a long time and was a much bigger deal than it may seem now. There are a lot of things SNSD did first or popularized. Yuri as the first fancam queen, Yoona who made "center" position a thing, TTS being the first sub-unit that hit it big, SNSD as a group are the first and still the only girl group to hold a Disk Daesang (means they've beaten boy groups in physical sales that year). The confusing part is, SNSD peaked before RUclips did. A lot of their older content is actually really old (as in from the times fans had to download 240p videos broken in parts and overlayed with multiple layers of hardsubs in different languages). By the time RUclips got better, SNSD's comebacks were already a once in 1-2 years occurrence. Then 2014 (Jessica's departure) happened and made things awkward, then 2017 (3 members leaving SM) happened and made the future uncertain. Sone fandom didn't go anywhere but wasn't actively taking part in trend waves like "unhelpful guides" creation. The guide you reacted to has the views it has not because of its outstanding quality but because it was the only one around for many years. Something has shifted in past year or so though. There is a whole new generation of fans attracted by members' individual activities. Also pandemic seems to have given people time to dig into older material and SNSD's charms are honestly irresistible once you get to know them better. The result is, more decent guides were created this year alone than in few previous years. They are not only current but also of much better quality. The ones by ohwoowoo, luxerit, kdot - any of them does not only provide more information but is also a more enjoyable watch, being better paced and all. Honestly can't wait for the comeback later this summer. And missing the group for 5 long years is only a part of this excitement. Big part of it is knowing a lot has changed since 2017. The girls have grown a lot as individuals and artists. And the industry has changed a lot too. Official show fancams, dance relays etc - things like that weren't yet a reality last time SNSD promoted as a full group, so they are simply not a part of Sone vocabulary and it's exciting to think we may experience them for the first time.
You’re right about most modern metrics not being the most reliable measure of their popularity or impact. The most impressive and telling fact about them for me is how according to Gallup in 2010, they were the #1 artist in every age bracket from 13-59. Not just overall #1 from 13-59, but #1 for teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. Now keep in mind that idol music in general was more popular in Korea during that time, but that’s still extremely impressive. Not only did kids, teens, and 20 somethings love SNSD, but so did their *parents*. And just speaking anecdotally, my dad is a senior citizen who couldn’t name a single BTS or Blackpink member, and even he knows who Taeyeon is.
Thank you for the lovely reaction. I'm guessing majority of YT reactor who loves GG@SNSD must be prepare to do a guided reaction to them if they hasn't done it before bcs GIRLS ARE BACK!!!! #GG4EVA #SONE
Tiffany's real name on her passport is actually Stephanie Miyoung Hwang since she's Korean-American. Jessica is Jessica Sooyeon Jung and Sunny is Susan Soonkyu Lee.
Jessica real name is only Jessica Jung. She said in her fanmeeting/concert that her true name on pasport is really jessica jung only. The korean name was just made up.
the video used a lot of old fandom jokes and didn't explain well what's going on. though considering it was posted years ago, that's understandable. I hope you can get to know the members more before their comeback ~ For Hyoyeon, maybe you can watch her first few solos before the recent one? I love her performances in Mnet's Good Girl too. Or you can watch a recent compilation of her being the OG Dancing machine in kpop. It's titled "Hyoyeon's song Choreography compilation (The hardest dance of K-pop)"
I loved it. Thank you so much for reacting to our beautiful girls. We already know that in August you will also react to their comeback in celebration of their 15 years of career. Thank you for your reaction ❤️
The swearing bit. Certainly, when I have met people where neither of us can speak the other's language, the first thing we do is learn to swear in each other's language. It establishes a critical level of communication for us to build on. If you can swear in their language, you can always add the niceties later. 🤣
It's Yuri, I think. But Yoona originated the Center trend (if the number of members where odd like 9 , it was noticeable) Girls Generation does V formation, always putting Yoona in the middle.
SM tends to avoid having artists that share a name within the company. Their idols are given a stage name when their real one happens to be taken. For example, just like SNSD, Red Velvet also has a SooYoung (Joy) and a JuHyun (Irene). Curiously, SNSD's and RV's JuHyuns are even the same age despite their groups debuting many years apart, but neither got to keep their birth name. Not sure why SeoHyun's name got remixed like that (full name is Seo JuHyun) but I suspect it's because of Ok JuHyun from Fin.K.L, not an SM group but it was hugely popular in early 2000's. So since SM's vocal group CSJH The Grace did have a Stephanie already, SNSD's Stephanie had to pick a stage name. She went for Tiffany both because her late mother liked the name and because "Fany" still worked as a pet name, so she didn't have to give up her real name completely. When she debuted in the US a decade later, she chose to keep this stage name a lot of people got to know her by. Interestingly, she chose not to use her real last name Hwang and went for a part of her Korean first name (MiYoung) instead. Probably she decided it would be more digestible for the English speaking audience but the dark history with her father could also play a role there. So Stephanie Hwang ended up promoting as Tiffany Young (after getting really famous as Tiffany Hwang in SK). Complicated stuff.
Not only photocard but also fancam, Yuri SNSD was the first idol who invented fancam in Oh! Era
