Next time drive up to Woolaroc (woods, lakes, rocks) Frank Phillips hunting lodge and museum filled with native art and early oil history. By Bartlesville.
So glad you were able to enjoy Philbrook. Too bad the other flagship art museum of Tulsa is currently being rebuilt, Gilcrease. The collection for that museum includes jaw-dropping Thomas Moran vistas, Remington bronzes, Native American art and more. Hope you were able to peruse the Woody Guthrie Center and the Bob Dylan Center.
It's as if that place was built to be an art museum. Just took the Phillips family few years to realize what they had there. Congratulations to all involved in the creation and development of this institution. Great gift to art lovers everywhere. Thanks for the tour Alexander.
The Philbrook is one of our favorite places in Tulsa. We live in Houston now, but, 40 years ago we lived just a few blocks from the Philbrook. We would walk to it and go to movies and music that they would hold on the grounds out back. We went to Tulsa last year and that was the number one thing on our list to see. You should have taken a tour, they tell you so much about the history of the family and house. After the Phillips family moved, they moved to Cimmaron, New Mexico and built a home/ranch that eventually was donated to the Boy Scouts of America and became known as Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. If you grew up in the US and were a Boy Scout, it was the ultimate destination to strive for. So glad you were able to spend some time in Tulsa. It's a beautiful little city or big town. Most of the residents have a lot of pride for it I know we did!
Thank you Alex, I would probably never have known about that museum, but I enjoyed looking at it and the art inside. It was eye candy for an old “Armchair Traveler!” Your comments are good, and I too would have always missed seeing a pumpkin painting with seagulls in it! Blessings! from Manitoba 🦬 My old Grampa Casper had buckskin gloves like that which his wife embroidered and beaded for him.
Alexander, That's not a house(Aussie Accent"), That's a Mansion:) I miss Museums, I've been in most of the New York Ones. Good stuff there, and yes, I too think that light fixture is very cool! That is one eclectic mix, I wish I cold have visited it. Creativity and Art cover all centuries and all peoples. Really, thank you for sharing it with me! Cheers, Frederick "Rik" Spector
Please come back and visit the Gilcrease Museum. It's currently under reconstruction and will display mostly art of the American West. This home was owned by the Phillips Family of Phillips 66. There is also another museum in the Bartlesville area that was Waite Phillips hunting lodge. You'll notice their influence in downtown Tulsa in the Philtower and the Philcade buildings. The Philcade lobby is especially opulent. More to come I hope.
They do story time on the grounds then they give the kids food to feed the Koi. Great intro for the littles to the Philbrook! Their Frida exhibit was amazing.
I’m glad you included that absolutely fabulous garden! I grew up nearby and the garden is my favorite part. I was holding my breath - afraid you were going to miss it! And yes, you really need to go to Woolaroc!
The last year my Mom owned her condo in Colorado my sister was living in central Washington state. She knew I wanted to go see my sister, I mean, she wanted to see her too, but she asked what I wanted to do when we went to see her. I told her that more than anything, I wanted to go back to Victoria B.C. We, Mom, Dad, sister and I, had gone there in 1973. So we went. And while we were just kind of driving around the island what did we see? Pumpkins! Fields of pumpkins!
It is nice to see you in my hometown. Philbrook has changed alot, not as many classic art pieces. I'm not much as a fan of modern art. I do hope you get to go to woolarock, that is an amazing place. Last time i was there they had long horn cattle, donkeys, bison that you could buy food pellets to feed them as you drove up to museum. Have fun.
The garden is spectacular ❤❤❤ thanks Alex, we as a family never got into museums because we had 2 severely visually impaired children and one museum actually kicked us out when my girls little because they couldn’t SEE the exhibit and crossed the rope barrier to get a closer look
Thank you for taking us along for the ride. I've been mostly bedfast for 5 years and this channel has been my go to. I found you before the first hoarder house and I was hooked on the fun and your beautiful family.
I got this notification and I hit it so fast. You’re in my “home” town. I actually grew up an hour away but Tulsa was the closest city to us so we spent quite a bit of time there. I even went to college there so I did live in T-town for a bit. I no longer live there but it’s still home to me.
Thank you for the wonderful tour! I live in Tulsa and am ashamed to say it's been a while since I visited Philbrook so this is a nice reminder! Before I retired I worked in the building downtown where the Phillips family moved to after they moved from Philbrook. They had the beautiful penthouse in the building. When our company bought it we were privileged to enjoy many special Christmas parties there.
Loved seeing all that you took the time to show All of us! Thank you! Very much! This is Mary, not David B. , I LOVE ART PERIOD, Great to see what Artist Do! Never know what you come across! Mary in upper part of florida!🤔😁😎🌴♥️♥️♥️😉
Thanks for showcasing the Philbrook. It's one of my favorite places to take "big city" visitors who've bought into the stereotype of middle America as nothing but backwards, flyover country; devoid of art and culture.
Thankyou I really enjoyed this visit to a place not on my radar. Such beautiful gardens, and the house is spectacular, a wonderful setting for an art gallery. I might never get to visit Tulsa in person so am more than grateful you took the time to take us along.
Thank you for showing us! You do a good job of taking us around! I think maybe that picture of no one helping the por man was the story from the Bible. The Samaritan was the only one that would help the poor man.
I'm glad that you were able to visit this beautiful museum. I've been there several times since I live in the area. I love the native American art they have. It's a great collection.
Alex, you are welcome to come back to our home as often as you wish, just give me a call so I can treat you to dinner! (Previously identified displaced Texan living in Tulsa and loving it.)
It's nice to see Philbrook highlighted. So many other exhibits were not shown in this video. Completely understandable! It is a beautiful place with many interesting and beautiful exhibits and gorgeous gardens. And I agree with others - Gilcrease and Woolaroc need a visit too. Thanks so much.
I think that if you go to that museum after it closes, Nick Dark, the umbrella hat guy, the catfish riding lady, and the guy on the horse (and all the people in the pictures) come alive. Stay clear of those dogs, though...or bring treats.
Lovely place. Reminiscent of many stately homes here in the UK, especially with those wonderful formal gardens. We have the National Trust here that own hundreds of fine examples, usually all furnished or restored just as they were 2-300 hundred years ago, if not older. Even tourists can get a National Trust membership card and visit all manner of places across the UK. We are members and we visit such wonderful homes at least every month. Nice to know there are similar places in the US, born out of, what we would call, 'new' money!
I’m a docent at philbrook and just stumbled across this video. lol. I kept answering your questions as I watched. And no, that nick cave isn’t the musician
I like Philbrook WAY better than Gilcrease. I got to play the Organ at Christmas about 15 years ago. Pretty neat experience! Cool that clay suitcase is still there!
Hi Alex. This was really something to see, you are right! I love your sense of humor, when you said the guy was serving the apple pie to the dying guy with the badly bandaged wound (starting at 11:43 in the video) in the painting, I literally laughed out loud! You are awesome! LOL
doesnt even mention it was the Phillips Family Home. as in Phillips 66. they also had Woolaroc out near Bartlesville which was their Hunting Lodge. has a bunch of Native American artifacts and Phillips 66 aligned stuff. as well as a drive through animal preserve with Bison, Elk, Longhorn, Ostriches, Llamas, etc Gilcrease Museum is currently being rebuilt and has a very large Native American collection. Is mainly an American History and Art Museum.
Are the short pillars in front of the museum still covered in stickers? Years ago school children had a tradition of taking off their visitor stickers and placing them on the posts while waiting for their buses.
Ever been to the comic museum in San Francisco Alexander? Went in 04 but felt let down by the range . But saw the town hall from A view to a kill james bond. Stil white stone and not blackened from the film. Saw lombard str. The Rock . Should have left the ex there!!! Doubtfire movie house. The Presidio another sean connery movie starring mark harmon too oh and some actress called Meg Ryan. ILM film centre now sold off if you saw tested from last yr they showed you a model plane from Always. An underated movie , last Audrey Hepburn movie too 😢brave teenager , you should read her memoirs
The indigenous vases made me think of that deal going on at 7-11 where you can bring your own container and fill it up with slurpee for a flat price. So wrong, I know.
i know its not, but the light and the movement in the beginning makes it look like to be AI generated. But You did it even better. So its Alex generated :)
I have a piece by Oliver Harwood he said that I had to decide what it was. what ever I saw so I have a green stone one view is a dinosaur with a green eye made of glass in a different view point I see a first Nations man with a green feather in his hair.😂🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Alex my tour guide. Honey, I wish I was there with you. Beautiful and interesting museum. The estate is of American royalty. I’m so jealous and envious of the rich and powerful. I’m poor but happy. Se la vie. Until next time. My sexy friend. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🇺🇸🌞🌈🕊🙏😇❤️🌹👍
Next time drive up to Woolaroc (woods, lakes, rocks) Frank Phillips hunting lodge and museum filled with native art and early oil history. By Bartlesville.
Always a must see place, very interesting items to learn about
Thanks for inspiring me to go there on Friday! It was only 4 hours to get there and I enjoyed it so much.
I loved the Gilcrease Museum! I love the western art and Native American art and artifacts, simply amazing!
I believe Antiques Roadshow filmed one of their shows at Philbrook.
Nick Cave the musician is Australian and was born in 1957. Nick Cave the artist is famous for his soundsuit sculptures series.
Pumpkin and seagulls. Classic still life. Hahaha. Alex is too funny

Thank you Alex. Great art 🖼️ . It looks like an Italian villa on Lake Como in Italy. You had me laughing at the Seagull/ Pumpkin comment!

I live in Tulsa. My mother was a local artist. She also posed for some drawing classes offered by the museum.

Yes! I second this recommendation. Gilcrease is another great Tulsa museum.
I'll third this recommendation! I love the Gilcrease Museum. It's my favorite of these two.
"As fantastic as the original had been".... Love it. Yes, and imaginative. Love it!
They do story time on the grounds then they give the kids food to feed the Koi. Great intro for the littles to the Philbrook! Their Frida exhibit was amazing.

Okie here, the Philbrook is our most valued treasure imho.
It was a wonderful video! ♥️
Beautiful art❤ I love those bronze dog sculptors. Art museum are my favorite pastime. Thank you for sharing your visit.

My beautiful, cultured hometown! Philbrook was/is still my favorite place to visit.
The Philbrook is amazing!

Greetings from Michigan thanks for the walk about great art
Wow, what a beautiful museum. Very cool exhibits. I love art imitating life, with the ceramic well-worn suitcase.
Thanks for showcasing the Philbrook. It's one of my favorite places to take "big city" visitors who've bought into the stereotype of middle America as nothing but backwards, flyover country; devoid of art and culture.

I loved this!! Beautiful.
Loved the tour! Thank you!
What a beautiful museum and art gallery. Thank you for taking us along.
Love the giant painting of the man on horseback.
That pumpkin and seagull looks like a Jamie Wyeth oil, son of Andrew Wyeth, grandson of NC Wyeth, American painting royalty!!
The gardens and set up reminded me of the art museum in Jacksonville fl. It used to be a house too...the gardens are amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Whereabouts is the Jacksonville art museum?
@@janicehammersmith4728 cummer museum of art. It's really pretty...highly recommend
great tour! mahalo
Truly enjoyed our tour, I could spend hours there. Thank you!

The Philbrook is probably my favorite museum I’ve ever visited. I like Crystal Bridges, too, but the Philbrook is just such an experience.
Alex, all your video's are so interesting. From culture to old cars to hoarded houses and even just what's happening at home....great variety....
Thanks Lucy!
I went there around Christmas time. The decoration of the garden was top!
It’s been a long time since I was there but it seems like it is full of tulips in the spring.
Wow! Thanks for the tour! Can’t wait to visit!
LOL! Seagulls and pumpkins- hilarious! Thanks, I needed a laugh😂
When it was a residence, the place was thirty thousand square feet, you say? Wow. The Roomba must have been going night and day! 😄
🌊loved this Amanda!! Well done! Your drumming is awesome! Hugs to Frankaliscious 🫶🫶
Awesome again 🎸🎸🎸🎸

Alex, that wasn't the same Nick Cave as he was born the same year as me, 57 and in Australia 😊
Thank you for taking us
Fabulous 👌
The Philbrook Art museum used to the the home of Waite Phillips of Phillips Petroleum Company
Interesting but I am more interested in collecting and the search.
Crazy wealth!
😮

I was curious so I looked this up. A mummy was placed in a mummy case which was placed in a coffin which was placed in a sarcophagus.
I need that world light fixture!!
The Phillips family of Phillips Oil Co. The colored lights on the floor were a dance floor. The lights blink.
When many of the early paintings were made, the pigment was finely powdered stone. They might yellow from the binding agents, but the color won’t.
They are two different people. The artist is from Missouri.
The musician is from Australia.

Has anyone mentioned the cats that roam the grounds?
@1.48 No, wrong Nick Cave, the Musician is Australian b. 1957 (I am a big fan!)
These castles are a pain in the butt to maintain
ive been watching you for years, and i was just at this museum a few days ago ha what are the chances
Not the same Nick Cave. The musician is Australian, born in ‘57. The artist is American, born in ‘59.
4:47 Pipe organ!
The little square on that one piece maybe represents a window🤔

If you take an amphora to Starbucks, you’d be ordering the ‘venti, vide, vici’ size
Different nick cave
The whole thing wasn’t a house…it’s been added onto= gift shop…
No Dana. Only Zuul.
Nick Cave two different dudes
