The advantage is that they can stroll down the street whenever they want, pop into the museum and see all the art that they were keeping in boxes. Not to ignore the fact that they are two tremendously generous persons that were drawn to that particular museum because admission was free...and everybody could enjoy their art...they are an example to all the world 👏👏👏
what a great example of living an honest fun life, together, and have more meaning to it than the worth of possessions from the material world. ♥ -Respect Herb & Dorothy.
This is what integrity and passion look like!! In a world obsessed with money and greed, these stories should be shown to all high school and college students, they may just end up doing what they love instead of chasing the mighty dollar.
An inspiring couple who reveal their deep passion for art and the possibility it can be for everyone as a collector and finally as a donor so all can enjoy it. Priceless.
you can feel how genuinely he meant it as he said he would be nothing without her. a true testament to unconditional love, and a gesture hard to ignore.
They are the sweetest, most inspiring couple besides my parents that personify everything noble and generous a human being can be. Although I must say I'm kind of pissed off at them for making me cry. Bless them.
The way these to responded to art 🖼 is the right way to enjoy anything that brings you joy. Do it for love and enjoyment and you will be truly blessed. The artists became their family and the art their children.
Some art is a fraud. Just because someone with a formal qualification or experience with arts says it's grand doesn't make it so. However, that said the Vogel collection is wonderful. A lifelong passion for collecting has given them a life that took them from the ordinary to the extraordinary. What a lovely couple!
Wonderful couple. Don't know if Mike Wallace was playing at being a Philistine, but that's what he came across as. He can't seem to understand that not everyone in the world is motivated by money.
I started collecting 40 yrs ago, but I’m such a critic, I wouldn’t buy one peace still searching for that special piece...the couple are VERY NICE PEOPLE ...I get them
adorable couple.. Their collection... not so much. They grew up in a period when you could buy almost anything/anyone and make money on it. Not so any more. Everyone is trying to get in on it. The natural course of things...
We collect out of interest, curiosity and appreciation for whatever it is that we are collecting, be it baseball cards or art. We will think nothing of going without, if it will help us to get a piece to add to our collection, so that we can continue the narrative that we are engaged creating and telling through our collecting and our collection. (Note: I am being specific and limiting, as I am writing about collectors that are similar to the Vogels, people whose collections our personal statements and those of wealthy individuals who see art as a commodity that is to be bought and sold, is for decoration and are buying, because that is what their “art advisor” or interior designer has recommended them to buy. These people seldom, if ever “discover” a new artist or trend. They tend be more concerned with not clashing with the rug, or, bagging a trophy piece to hold bragging rights.) I would say that art does not make a collector, because collecting is something of a character trait and a need that must be fulfilled and art is just on of many things that someone may choose to collect. Though, in our collecting of art, we are elevating it and validating to being a work of, for we are the audience of it and for the artist. I would go even further and say that art collectors, make artists, artists. Without collectors, a person creating works, is a technician, a crafts person, a fabricator and a hobbyist. Not that anything be wrong with being so. With collectors, they move on to being a professional and artist, as they now have someone that is interested in listening to and engaging with their narrative as it is transmitted through and by their work. With the collector, they now have someone with whom to have dialogue with and our now creating works that are an expression of culture of people and of their society.
Amazing and inspirational story proving that even extraordinary people with ordinary incomes can do extraordinary things and amass many tens of millions (and by some accounts, such as Forbes magazine, $200 million) in assets, and all the while having fun.

When you've just given up on people, the Vogels pop up. Thank you for restoring my faith. May you be blessed for eternity.
Si Fi Well said, thanks!
Knowing these people exist in this world makes my days brighter.

Thank you So very much 💐. You are two exceptional people with a love for art on the right spot 🖼 ❣️ 🖼.
we need more people like them in the art world, instead of these greedy bastards we have now a days
Oh, Mike, how well said, how well said. God Bless this beautiful couple.
Exactly. Be like the Vogels, people!
"Now a days" vs the altruistic delicate snowflakes in Renaissance Florence? ;-)
Yes, but they are giving it to greedy B's who are making tons on them, without having to pay them a penny.
100% Agreed
Great New Yorkers! Thank you Vogels.
I always noticed the name in the Museum. Never knew who they were, just thought they were a socialite, rich couple.
you can feel how genuinely he meant it as he said he would be nothing without her. a true testament to unconditional love, and a gesture hard to ignore.
They are the sweetest, most inspiring couple besides my parents that personify everything noble and generous a human being can be. Although I must say I'm kind of pissed off at them for making me cry. Bless them.
I cried when he said he could’ve not done this collection with her.
Absolutely wonderful
What a wonderful couple. The Vogels are really inspirational.
Conrad Bo inspiring hope for the.human in humanity. Artists express what science can’t or something like that.

Wonderful and inspirational couple. I read herb passed away in 2012. But what a wonderful legacy
„What would you be without me?“ and he literally said „I‘d be nothing“ this got me in tears men
They're so small and beautiful. I love them.
People like this are extraordinarily rare. Makes me cry.
They are such a humble couple.... and so adorable 🥰🥰
Admiration and Respect are the two words that come to me... :-)
Mr Vogel looks irritated by those money questions.
I think if he disclosed how much he paid, it would make the people selling them look beyond greedy, so he is covering for them
Oh he's pissed
That lovely smile by Christo at the end!! Their friendship with him and Jeanne-Claude says a lot about their worth as people.
I’ve always loved art they are an inspiration to me and my collection
"We didn't do it to make money."
Thank you.
Yep wow what absolutely wonderful people! Give Mr. Vogel something! Omg

I aspire to be these people.
Does art make collectors or do collects make something art? As an artist this puzzles me.
