You are a star! Just bought an X20S after flying Rektum for 10 years and I have managed to configure my Fouga Magister 3D printed 70mm EDF thanks to your video, including adding two new channels to handle the v-tail, retracts and front wheel steering. (It's complicated!) Now just to wait for the weather to be as awesome as your (RUclips) channel. Thank you!
Thanks for your videos, so helpful. Just started moving from OpenTX Horus to X20R although I have some very complicated setups on my 1/5th scale B25 and Twin Otters so they have to stay on OpenTX. I have created a model and copied my OpenTX printout model settings into the X20R, saves starting from scratch. All good so far. One point to raise, Latest firmware ver1.5.18 some names have changed which since this demo. Took a while to figure it out comparing your demo to what my screen said.
Thanks Big D ... Have been binge watching all the Ethos vids because I have one just now coming and i was going to go Spectrum but changed the mind for a few reasons, At the same time I found you. Thanks a bunch!! You seem to have intimate knowledge of Frsky, Is this frow your background of flying Ftd's or are you in communication with the programmers? Curious in Nor-Cal ; )
Hey Kenny. I’m glad the videos are helpful. My experience is all really from flying. My first transmitter was a Spektrum DX6i, but that was replaced within weeks by a Taranis X9D. That was probably one of the best moves I’ve made in the hobby. Since then I stuck with FrSKY transmitters, as the Taranis lasted well, I liked the quality, and OpenTX (at the time). So It was a natural progression. These days, I have contacts at FrSKY, who will always try to answer any questions I have. I also feed back the other way for suggestions on how to improve things.
This is something I intend to do in the future. But at this stage, I have not flown anything using those modes. I would like to do so before making a video on it.
@@MrD I will look forward to it. I am a long time Spektrom user making the transition to a X18 and have learned a ton from your videos. Thanks for all your hard work!!!
Actually I literally did just this at the weekend and initially a bit confusing but I got there in the end. I found that I didn't like the 3 position switch mid positions as gyro off so ended up with some funky curves to allow for gyro off and normal (not hover or KE) on the up position of both switches but it worked well (eventually) Have to say my initial verdict on the Rx stabilization is really good considering I have and still use powerbox igyro's in my jets. The hover mode is itself exceptional. Hope that helps. Rich
2:42 hello dr D. I’m using mechanical gear from in an l old 70’s style pattern plane. I need the servo to travel more then standard. It is a low profile servo used in climbing rc cars. Lots of torque and 180 degree of travel. How do I get it to rotate further ?? I can get the extended travel on my servo tester but not found how to accomplish that in ethos 😅
Hi Mr. D.......In this video you show the nose gear retract...Could you guide me in setting the nose wheel with the rudder mix up?. My intention is to make it workable with the gear down but not in gear up position. Thank You So much in advance
With the last release, multi protocol module support was added. I have heard that the iRanger lite module works. But I don’t have one, so can’t confirm.
So I absolutely love my FR Sky but I lost my free wing gripen due to not understanding how to program canards with ethos is it possible you can do a video on canard set ups?
Hi Darren, I bought me a viper 90mm EDF and wanted to set the gear up on my radiomaster tx16s. I seted everything up, but the gears don't come out, there just make a quick noise, but don't move. What can I do?
Hi Darren, Im new to FrSKY having changed from FUTABA and i have to say your videos have really helped during the migration to ETHOS. Im stuck however on one thing at the moment, how to assign seperate trims on a nose wheel. Ive got it on a seperate channel and its slaved from the rudder etc, even allowing for a different curve when flaps are mid position and deactivated when the gear is up however i cant for the life of me figure out how to add a rotary (S2) as a trim for it. I did this on futaba so im guessing its not impossible but im scratching my head. can you help please? Cheers.
I’ve not tried it. But off the top of my head. I’d just add S2 as a free mix on the same channel as the nose wheel. By default it should be an additional mix, so will just add bias. But, unless you need to change this trim all the time. It would probably be easier just to change the midpoint on the output. So that it tracks straight.
Mr. D, Your videos are very good. However, I am having a very hard time following this video. The single curve that you add does not translate for a single switch. Obviously, I am missing something. I have a X20S Tx, and I am trying to work with a TD R18 Rx. I upgraded my Tx with all of the Firmware, and the ETHOS 1.5 OS. Things seem to be in different places. Is there a guide of some sort that can help me?
Maybe in the future. Currently I don't have a model with separate doors. Also, there has been talk of a door sequencer being added to ETHOS to make this much simpler.
Hi, Mr.D. I got one X18 loaded to the latest version of Ethos, but it seems Ethos is not ready for me. Therefore I am looking to use the Tandem with OpenTX or EdgeTX. Is there any video showing how to upload OpenTX into the Tandem TX?
@@MrD They have a mess with the cross-trim, which I figured out and reported, but I am missing for the special functions overwrite channel, set timer, and instant trimming so far. And I am just starting with a very simple model. Plus, the X18 does not need an SD, however, it resets the models without any reason. I regret I sold the Jumper because was not reliable because this seems to be even worse. My backup tx is a first-generation X9D; ten years without a problem. I thought it would run OpenTX. I guess I will try to return it.
Hi Richard. The overriding of channels you need to do via the mixer, rather than special functions. Instant trim would be very useful. I know that has been requested for a while now. I can’t really say I’ve looked at timers much. Is this to call out times for a list of manoeuvres or something like that? I can’t say I’ve ever had my models get wiped. I’m not saying it can’t happen. But it’s certainly a rare occurrence. Not something that will be happening all the time.

HI MR D - AGAIN - JUST SEEN COMMENT ABOUT DOORS - SO ADD DOORS TO THE SYSTEM - AND ALSO WHEN ADDING COMPLICATED STUFF - AM REALLY STARTING TO MISS 'OFFSET' IN MIXES - RATHER THAN ADDING ANOTHER MIX CALLED OFFSET - SO I AM STARTING TO HAVE A LOT OF MIXERS AND CURVES GOING ON TO DO SOMETHING I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO IN ONE MIX - THANKS - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK - CATCH YOU LATER - TAKE CARE - HAPPY FLYING - DAVID - WOODY1958UK
You will need to add a line to the mixer in INAV. It will operate the gear servo and be changed by the RC channel that your gear switch is outputting to from the transmitter.

Hi David. I really just wanted to keep this video simple. Which is why I didn’t even include slow. For some landing gear, it simply doesn’t work. For example, the Viper jet in the video. If I use slow with that. It doesn’t change the speed the gear moves at. It only delays when it operates. My FW-190 has simpler retracts, and they will speed up or slow down with the slow function.
