  • The most prominent bodyboarder to come out of the UK's Channel Islands, Colin Crowther from Jersey has been there and done that. One of the earliest adopters of Tom Morey's brainchild has been at it since the beginning- as a participant, competitor, contest organizer, and even author!
In recent years, he's taken to spending time searching for uncharted waves in Europe's Arctic, using internet sleuthing to locate some of his destinations. He occasionally takes forays into the tropics with Rob Barber's Bodyboard Holidays crew, and has stories for days. Listen in to hear about his journey in the sport!

Thanks Colin and Jay 🤙 I can remember reading Bodyboarding magazine and Riptide, back in the late 80's early 90's and, like you say, the pictures just stood out so much, along with the videos of Mike, Keith as well as the Underground Tapes......!! A pleasure surfing with both Colin and Jay in El Salvador back in 2020. Great episode, thank you Colin for your enthusiasm and continued efforts with Bodyboarding.

What a cool interview. I can relate to the video tape story. I saw kids on the beach as a 10 year old in 1984 riding white wash on pieces of polystyrene and wanted in. Growing up in apartheid South Africa we had no material coming in from over seas because of sanctions. Then at age 14 my buddy brought a Riptide mag from Australia and it changed my life. I didn't know riding foam was called bodyboarding. Peace and love from Cape Town.

Clips can be cool, but can't beat the old magazines.

Excellent work Colin spreading the good word about body boarding and surfing in our beautiful island Jersey, in the Channel Islands (the original one, not the new one)! #JerseySport #JerseyCI

Hey Colin. Great interview. What board do you ride now you are riding DK again? Cheers, Andy

@awsmead Thanks for the comment. For years I rode thin 40.25 to 40.5 (I'm 5'6") and DK faded away, then as age crept in about 3 years ago I jumped up to 41" to experiment, which I liked. Two 2 years ago I moved to the Tristen Roberts Pride template which has a lot more volume and I realised I could also DK again. I now also have a Custom X XDK purely for DK, which is good fun for freshening things up.

@ColinCrowther Hi Colin. Thanks for the reply. Always good to hear what others are using for DK as can be a big help in my own riding. I'm 6ft and around 94 KG (last I checked). I ride a 44" board with a very wide template like the old school boards. Fantastic for both DK and Prone. Bit of a boat though for paddling!
