My son has schizophrenia. He gets a monthly injection and takes daily meds. We have been warned that schizophrenics stop taking their meds because they feel well. Then they get put back on meds when the illness manifests again. It becomes a vicious cycle and every time they stop taking their meds they slip into deeper psychosis until they are totally psychotic and institutionalised. My heart breaks for Billy because he tried so hard to help his son. As a parent it is a stressful path to walk, never knowing when psychosis will manifest. But we do the best we can. I hope Devon received sufficient therapy to help him work through his trauma.

He refuses to take meds and chooses to eat better as an alternative to meds. It is such a vicious cycle. Luckily he is only verbally abusive not so much physically. Do you know that, apparently, 1 in 100 people in the USA have schizophrenia? That's a staggering proportion of people suffering daily if the same frequency is true across the world. It’s very sad to see it happen especially to a loved one. I am very thankful in some way I’ve had this experience because it’s taught me to show kindness towards everyone because you never know how they see reality. Im also glad to hear how well you’re handling your sons illness, I’m only 18 so I’m worried I’ll have schizophrenia later in life or my children will. You are absolutely correct. My sister (unlike this William, who was diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder - a behavior issue and not an organic brain disease) was acutely schizophrenic but my parents dragged her to preachers to have "demons" prayed out of her. She became more and more unwell and we were forced to live with her in our home. She attempted to kill each family member more than once. I finally got tired of it and after she stabbed me, I actually phoned law enforcement and she was involuntarily committed. I was fourteen years old and my brother and I lived in sheer terror. Until the day they died, the parents blamed me because I didn't have enough faith to wait out her divine healing, absolving themselves of ANY responsibility! I resent them to this day. Their cult mentality would have killed us.

Honestly as someone who also has mental health problems, sometimes you just have to know when someone isn't worth putting yourself through. The Dad clearly loved his son and tried hard but in the end his son was his own person and when that person doesn't take anything you attempt to heart or even try to meet you halfway, it just isn't worth it. Don't get me wrong, people deserve a chance to change. But as hard as it is, you also have to realize yourself how much you're effecting your own quality of life, and in this case the other members of the family's as well. Chances do run out eventually and in the end if a person doesn't want to change, then it's just you suffering for it.

Yes, you have to realize there's a time when you're not saving them, they're taking you down with them. Unfortunately it usually involves the whole family breaking apart too. Doesn't mean you stop loving and caring about them, but as a sibling with an ill brother there wasn't any time for me growing up, especially after the divorce and Dad cut out. The last contact I had(with my brother) was when he called right after my husband died. He got ugly and when we hung up he called police giving a false report I'd threatened suicide. 15 min later I was removed from my home by 6 policeman in an ambulance-3 days after the funeral. Never speak to him again.

We changed the laws here in the US in the 1970’s. Unless you have commited a crime, been convicted and are sent to Jail or Prison.. nobody can force an adult to take any medicine, go to for any counseling, live in a halfway house, seek other necessary care. States vary but broadly speaking if someone is about to jump off a bridge to commit Suicide or has hit someone harming them a 3 day Psychiatric Hold can take them to a Hospital where they are evaluated, made to take the meds and cautioned. Unless and until someone is demonstrably a current, present, immediate threat to themselves or others there is nothing Drs, Police, Family or friends can do. Most of our homeless people suffer Mental Health issues. Housing and every possible kind of care is funded and available, but is conditional on taking the meds and being in treatment. They don’t like how the meds make them feel, so they refuse.
My 23 year old son was diagnosed as BiPolar 3 years ago throwing us into an abyss of pain. The only reason be is doing well today is he is in local jail and forced to take his meds. As a parent it is a nightmare which you now know will be for LIFE. Incurable with a much shorter life span. BiPolars are staggeringly successful at Suicide.
Robin Williams was BiPolar as were, Anthony Bourdain, Van Gogh, Kurt Cobain, Jimmi Hendricks, Amy Winehouse, Heath Ledger, Richard Pryor, Edgar Allen Poe, Virginia Wolff, Agatha Christie, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Vivian Leigh, Liz Taylor, Carrie Fisher, Presidents John Adams, Lyndon B Johnson & possibly Lincoln. Winston Churchill suffered this too. Both Mozart & Beethoven had severe mental health crisises we would today call Bipolar. Napoleon, Plato & Issac Newton too.
When cycling up, they are brilliant, ambitious, responsible, energetic, accomplished, charismatic and often Leaders. Brittany Spears, Robert Downey, Jr, Catherine Zeta Jones, Mel Gibson, Mariah Carey, Sting, Jeanne Claude Van Damme, Russell Brand, Stephan Fry and Jim Carey are BiPolar. So is Kanye West and many others who do not publicly disclose their struggles. Cycling down the odds of suicide are dreadful. It is harder to overcome than Alcoholism or Addiction and only Schizophrenia is harder to live with.

@Zardreth715 because guns are more important than people's lives there.
Only country in the world were violent crazy people have easy access to weapons. Sometimes their own family members give it to them!.
Yesterday, I watched the waffle house murders. The murderer was a schizophrenic young man as well.
After several incidents with the police, they removed his guns and gave them to his father.
Did his father keep the guns away from his crazy son?. NO! HE GAVE THEM BACK TO HIM!.
He then went to a random restaurant and opened fire against all innocent clients.
American people's behavior concerning guns is mind blowing, at the very least. I have no words to describe it. That country really looks like a violent, crazy, dangerous place.

It makes me shudder when I think about it like that. I have no idea what I was doing during the time of these murders. Probably something so insignificant and wasteful of precious time. Any minute that precious time can come to an end abruptly with no warning at all. This is definitely the (so-far) scariest episode of coffeehouse crime for me personally by a long shot, simply because of how much I can relate to William if I'm being honest with myself. Step parent issues, mental health issues, being kicked out of what I thought was my home... I feel like the only thing that is different between us is in our mental health issues, in that I would never become violent or sadistic out of anger. But if I HAD been born with the same issues as him, it could just as easily be me Adrian talked about today, and that's absolutely bone chilling.

So much this. I cringe every time i see a new streaming service. Its like "yeah i already have about 22 active subscriptions, I have no interest in whatever trash youre trying to sell me".
They all want you on that 3 month trial so that you'll forget your subscription is active and they can just quietly bill you in the background. Thats why the trials are always like 3 months, 6 months, a year, etc.

    • @liselotteline8596
      @liselotteline8596 3 года назад +1

@@StainsStainsStains Just a tip. You can subscribe for the free months and immediately tell them you want to cancel your subscription on a specific date. So you don't forget to cancel. That way, the subscription ends automatically after the free trial. Canceling a few months ahead should also work for other contracts. Just make sure they confirm the cancelation for that date on paper or email, so you can prove you cancelled.

Like so many others, I really appreciate the dedication you have for crafting these videos. In many of them, you highlight failures in getting ongoing mental health. I have family who live in NY near Lake Erie, so this case really got my attention. That is such a beautiful area of the USA, and the people there are generally very kind, caring, and giving people. There is just no telling why this one child had serious mental health issues that pushed him into violence. But it does seem that keeping him out of a facility where his medication could be managed by professionals did not work out, and led to this tragedy. Thank you for bringing this story, and thank you for highlighting the importance of mental health care.

As a father, I disagree. A man’s duty is to protect his family physically above all else, including from each other. He should’ve done far more to extricate his dangerous child from his other offspring and wife. I can’t imagine how hard that would have to be, but it is a husband’s/father’s duty, in my opinion. This was a true tragedy, though.

@@cdd4248 It makes sense to me. He thought his son had a fascination (due to his mental problems) with killing animals (ie killing the neighborhood pets). So he thought if he brought his son to a controlled environment with animals that we hunt for food, he could use that fascination in a more “constructive” way by hunting game. Like an alternative for his compulsions rather than harming people’s pets…Seems like a father who loved his son and was at the end of his ropes, trying to do anything he could to change his son’s behavior by supplying better outlets for his son’s quickly fraying mind.
