Oh my goodness, that’s so wonderful! Prayers for Milburn’s protection when you put him back out and for y’all till you do it! You and your wife are such a blessing and have taught us so much about deer that I have new respect for them (and you and Chris)!!

I agree with letting him be neutered because there are no shortage of deer.....its not necessary for him to rutt. I think Milburn would rather stay part of the family.
Lucy too. She had enough children. I am sure Lucy would be ok living her life in retirement ☺
Hi Sandy, Fact check this but I'm repeating what someone taught me in the comments. Neutering would have had to been done before 6 months old because doing it at this point not only can intertwine their antlers but some other negative side effects. Have a great day!

Milburn's got about 4-5 more years before he becomes a real contender. We had a young fawn hang around with us for months and we would give him treats. He grew up to be a fine buck. Wasn't a bit afraid of people in our suburban neighborhood. When he was 8 years old someone got in the woods and illegally poached him. It broke our hearts.

It's great to see Lucy doing so much better. I kinda wonder if maybe ticks might be a reason for the sickness. Can't get over how much these deer have grown and it looks like all their spots are gone too. Your Tennessee visitors struck gold it looks like and I just love how excited they got. Maybe some future Jimmy Houstons for the pro-circuit! That floor y'all are putting in the shop is beautiful! Thanks, Wayne! We have tick collars on em, so they don’t really get any ticks. The vet thinks it was pneumonia and hopefully we have it beaten in her. Going around a lot now in deer. We had an absolute blast fishing with Brad and Wesley. Great people for sure. We all got excited! Lol. The floor is special. We came up a couple hundred green tiles short on the order. I’m sure Swisstrax will correct that and we can get it finished this coming week. The other building is going to be hard just moving everything and cleaning it up. Lol. Chris said it was worth the price and cost of the flooring just to get the building cleaned. Thanks. May God Bless! jimmy

I have heard bucks viciously attacking dogs near me, but not humans. Dairy cows do that all the time in heat, that I have seen. God and the Universe work in ways we don't always understand. 😘😘😘. We can always count on you both to keep your promise updating us on Friday about Lucy and her gang. WOW it’s late here and I finally felt well enough to get up after a migraine all day. Looking at screen holding eye closed how thrilled to see Lucy and then all the babies eating on the porch. After you gave her that paste she looked like herself tho a little thin still. Wonder if it may work on Forrest. Heard that all mommas look bad in certain areas and weaning has begun. You care for so many it’s hard to believe any of them look real bad. They do believe those feeders is the place to be then eventually the sick ones make all others sick as well. Hard to control except for your babies do know and can feel your kindness and maybe healthier too. Everyone has bonded over these special animals and may not understand they still have the sense of the wild. Out here the fires forced evacuation of a sanctuary and deer that were real pets were set free. Days later some returned to near the feeders seriously burned and scared waiting for the feeder to go off. Young bucks once so sweet were jumping on many of the women helping. Said they were just scared cus all of them had been neutered. Maybe you’ll have to do the same for safety and health. Wonder if Lucy’s sickness couldn’t be Milburn tried to mount her and injured her tho not meaning to. And in his mind Lucy belongs to him and that’s why he keeps returning. He’s never far from her so the pending rut feelings makes her his mate this year. Jus a thought but still Chris even Jimmy needs to be very careful and always have someone to walk with you and watch over you too. Did the boy get to keep his fish for an amazing dinner? He sure picked up on your laughter and excitement. YEP we always knew that Chris was the real fisherman/woman. 😅😂🤣😂😂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I didn't see an update last night before I went to bed, so the first thing I did this morning was check for an update on that precious deer family !!! Soooo glad that Lucy is feeling so much better - I was worried about her !!! I can definitely understand why it's so important for Milburn to be outside the gate - some may think it's cruel, but it's not safe for him to be inside the gate !! I wish I could have a Lucy, but that's not possible - I'll just enjoy your Lucy and wait anxiously for the weekly updates !! Thank you and Chris for your untiring efforts for Lucy and her sweet family !!

So glad to hear that Lucy's on the fast road to recovery. Praying that whatever was affecting her is not what was bothering Forest. I'm praying that Forest is over his ailment.
Is the paste you are giving Lucy Phenylbutazone ?
If it is be on the lookout for diarrhea and call the vet if she gets it . My niece's pony was given it for a sprained ligament and ended up with toxic levels in him had diarrhea and was diagnosed with having hyperalbumin anemia. Not trying to scare you just giving you a heads up.
I know that you want Milburn to have a full life including Mating... But that may not be reasonable unless you cart him somewhere further away, where he can't get back. ( I know that would just kill your heart.) You may have to end up sacrificing part of his normal life and have him castrated / neutered .Just my opinion.
You are in my thoughts and prayers while you make these hard decisions ahead.

Good Morning to the Houston clan! 🤙💕 If you don't mind I would like to share my observations as an "outsider looking in". I would not classify the deer as "wild deer" this herd should be properly called "house deer" just like our "house cat", etc. The triplets and twins are really growing up, I now have to look carefully to separate Lucy from the little one's. As for Milburn, I hope Jimmy realizes that the behavior exhibited between Milburn and him is very much like a canine to his/her owner. Each time I see Jimmy talking to Milburn, Milburn reaches up to lick his face....a canine trait. Then there is Lucy teaching (?) to lay down outside the door....that's a house deer trait...very cute.
All in all, a fine Family and I enjoy watching them grow.
As for Milburn's re-entry into the fence...he's an intelligent soul and where there's a will he'll find his way in.

Oh Melbourne, you need to make new friends. I know it's hard for you but it's just temporary. Don't we all wish we could explain things like that to him and have him understand. If he comes back around Christmas, I think he will willingly go next year, lol
