Naked Willow searching for odor- Blue Heeler practicing scent work

Commonly known as “Willow” is practicing her scent work skills after shedding (blowing her coat) all of her undercoat. Commonly referred to as being naked in the dog show world.
In this video Willow demonstrates the amazing abilities of the canine nose. You can watch for her body/head prior to finding the odor and other various clues. In some instances, I push her to truly find source of the odor and put her nose on source (if it’s possible).
In AKC Scentwork the dogs compete at trials to achieve titles in the various elements and levels of AKC Scentwork. Some or all of the target odors are set out for the dogs to find. The odors dogs search for is “birch, anise, and clove”.) Once a dog passes the excellent level an additional odor “cypress” is added to the mix.
This is such a great dog sport for anyone with a dog. Young, old, disabled dog or handler or healthy as ever, any dog and any handler can do this. It is a game that is SO beneficial for dogs lacking confidence or handlers wanting to build a better relationship with their dogs, and so many others.
