The 8 voice sessions plus the 6 outtakes from the bonus material of the American PS2 version.
In this video the voice sessions are edited with game footage, a juxtaposition of the actors with the corresponding cutscenes. I hope fellow LoK fans find this enjoyable.

Apologies for some audio issues many people have mentioned in the comments - this was (obviously) edited some time ago, there was still a lot of things I didn't know fully (I still learn, we all do, but I was even more of a novice back then) - I intend to re-upload both this and the similar Soul Reaver 2 video in better quality. For anyone reading this - thanks for watching.

EDIT (May 2017): More than two years after the upload, I want to deeply thank for the views and likes this video received, which were more than anticipated. This and its Soul Reaver 2 sibling are still two of my favourite videos uploaded in this channel (after all I named it Retro Legacy after this series). I almost never reply to comments because I usually have nothing to say except "thanks", but I value each and every person who takes the time to watch, like and comment.
Out of all the game series I have played in my entire life, it is Legacy of Kain that has the greatest voice acting.
i played thousands of games and i agree with you. however some modern games tends to have good voiceacting also
LordDeBahs Well, this was just my opinion. Though, yes, several games have great voice acting. But in my opinion, Legacy is the best.
Context is everything. LoK's voice acting was up to today's standards back in the PS1 era, where most games had terrible VO.
Voice acting and the most amazing and engrossing storyline in video game history. More than a decade after the last game and I'm still discussing it with other LoK fans.
+Raid Man
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Jesus everyone is so into it. Specially Turel. The guy's just shaking his head like a wild creature just to get into the character. They deserve every bit of respect and admiration people have for this series. Them and Amy Hennig.
That's what happens when you actually enjoy your job

@@ericyoung5184 Shit, did he pass away?!? I haven't head of! Bad loss indeed
@@jmorlar2852 Yeah Odo joined the great link in the winter of 2019.
"No. No more questions. No more worship. Time to run. Time to scream. Time... to die!" That is my favorite bit of the game.
Man, Simon Templeman's voice is so bad ass. Choose him as Kain was a real goal.
+Nicolás Riveros He's always been a brilliant actor.
did he do voice acting for other games?
@@KingLich451 He's in a bunch.
Jade Empire
Dragon Age: Origins
a bunch of others too.
@@Ch35h1r3C47 He's done some live acting too.
I remember ages ago some episode of Buffy was on TV and I wasn't paying much attention, until I heard his unmistakable voice and basically screamed "that's Simon Templeman" and nobody in the room knew who I was talking about lol
@@BigUriel He was in Charmed as well. Some hospital show too, a couple of comedies and at least one film. I don't always recognise his Yorkshire accent but his particular flavour of grandiloquent English villain is always a distinctive treat.
Best voice acting in a game ever.
This is amazing to watch, part of the reasons why Legacy of Kain was (and still is) a highly regarded series is mostly down to it's voice acting. Simon Templeman & Michael Bell brought the characters of Kain & Raziel to life and the way those characters were written and how they were developed throughout the course of the series is mostly down to their vocal delivery and how perfect everything feels in this mythology, The rest of the cast such as Paul Lukather, Richard Doyle etc did fantastically for the roles they played and are but a small piece of what makes this franchise work. I can't see these specific games without these specific actors, they are the beating heart of how flawless from a voice acting and storytelling standpoint viewpoint this series is.
Skullgrin140 I wish there was footage featuring Anna Gunn as the voice of Ariel. The fact that she played Ariel, Azimuth and DeJoule before her turn as Skyler White on Breaking Bad often leads me to fantasize that Walter White and Nupraptor are somehow the same character.
Ron Hatcher Gunn should consider more voice acting, it's weird she doesn't talk about this role all that much.
Agreed. I'd love to hear more about her experiences with the franchise. FYI: I just looked her up on IMDB. She used to be married to Alastair Duncan, the voice of Mortanius in LOK: Defiance. Damn it I miss these games.
+Skullgrin140 Don't forget Tony Jay voicing the Elder God, man. Its existence is no less integral to the life and impact of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. He brought a damn fine level of gravitas to a cosmic-tier villain from beginning of Soul Reaver up to the end of Defiance. Tony Jay will be missed, and we might never see his like again, or hear a voice just as iconic.
Honestly I wish they could remake the game in a new engine with new cutscenes, new animation, new puzzles/mechanics, but use the exact same story/timing/lines from these original games. They would stack up 100% with anything on the market today and will still get praise for one of the best collective voice acting performances in gaming history.
29:13 is bone chilling. RIP Tony.
"Given the Choice,
whether to rule a corrupt and failing Empire,
or to challenge the fates for another throw -
a better throw against one's Destiny -
what was a King to do?"
I love how he says it in a pondering tone of voice. He even lowers his gaze to get into that contemplative stance. You can tell they were really getting into the characters.
"But does one ever truly have, a choice?
One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate ....
And thus defy, the tyrannous stars..""
Those voice actors are best of the best. Rest in peace Tony Jay (Elder God), Paul Lukather (Vorador), and René Auberjonois (Janos Audron). You are impossible to be superseded
Sad...
Omg I didn’t recognise Janos voiced by ‘Odo’
Soul Reaver series is way way better than today's triple A titles
Poetic Scripts
Dark Gothic Story
Not to mention having some of the greatest voice actors, both their own times and assuredly beyond.
Legit poetry
Now from one in the future, ever hear of Darksiders? That has a lot of the same vibe in sound and presentation.
@@590275502 Pffff. Get the fuck outta here with that darksiders bullshit. You named it because it had mark hamill, didn't you?
@@590275502 darksiders is a fucking joke compared to LoK Defiance
You know Kain truly cares for Raziel when his very first thought after seeing the Elder God was worrying that Raziel was trapped with him.
Perfect voice for Kain.... its hard to describe, but the ambition , arrogance, power, yet reflection and understanding, all is conveyed in his voice/voice acting.
The first game I played in the series was Soul Reaver, and back then I didnt understand why it was called legacy of kain, isnt he the bad guy I thought. This was also before I knew that soul reaver was a sequel. It wasnt until Defiance I truly understood why the series is called The Legacy of Kain. While Raziel is a brilliant protagonist, with turns and twists the rise and fall and rise again of kain is what this is all about.
He is kind of similar to Anakin Skywalker, a prophesied hero, who turns into the villain, but was actually the hero all along. Even though we follow the adventures of Luke, Han and Leia in the original trilogy The prophecy of Anakin restoring balance to the force does come true, in a quite unexpected way. It was actually his journey all along.
I absolutely love how Simon delivered his lines. The small pauses Kain used mid-sentence to add emphasis to certain words were simply breathtaking.
Did you ever play the original Blood Omen? There is FIVE games in the series, Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Defiance and Blood Omen 2. There was also a multiplayer game called Nosgoth, but that sucked in my opinion.
FireIdar I played all of them, still waiting for the day for a remake remaster of the 1st legacy of Kain (with Simon's voice) or a new game after defiance.
The voice acting!!! Is Top notch
@@shadowdancer5330 yeah at this point that would be the best way to go, do Blood Omen in a modern open world rpg style. Blood omen was one of the first game i bought for the PS1 and the voice Acting blew me away, and it still the most enjoyable out of all the game to go back and play through. and even though most people got into the series with SR, i find that game to be the worst in the series today.
24:57 René's reaction to the shitload of exposition he has to deliver, and Michael just waiting for him to turn the page, AND THEN WITH THE AGENT! XD
😂😂😂
Micheal Bell kicks all the ass as the "honest, regal" vampire...like the noble captain...of an otherwise unworthy lot.
Jaidoprism7 you sure you didn't mix the actors up? Because your description sits much better with Rene Auberjonois, Janos Audron guy.
Defiance was a 10/10 $60 game worth every penny for this alone.
Thank you so much for uploading.
Nah it is an 8 or 9, it has some pacing problems, the vampire tomb levels were too copy pasted. Sad that the series ended there, Defiance has probably the best gameplay, I just wish they had kept the open wordly design of Blood Omen and Soul Reaver 1
@@lov_eli man, you don't even know how sad it was when the series ended or how it ended.
Look up Nosgoth multiplayer. And you thought it had dignity signing off. I hear talk that they're thinking about a new LoK entry, and it makes me both hopeful and horrified at the same time.
The pacing in Defiance is so-so, to say the least, especially during the raziel segments, like you said, the temples and the graveyard become a little tedious, but I love the behind the scenes stuff. It's one of the reasons I love Mortal Kombat so much, too.
@@killertrip10 yeah, I know about Nosgoth... I don't really consider it a part of the series though, the only connection is that they are in the same world, cuz that thing had no LoK spirit.
So yes... hell it is sad how it all ended (for now at least), but at least Defiance did leave us in a high note to remember this series. And you're right, the behind the scenes stuff is so awesome, glad they clearly knew to respect the work the voiceactors put in.
Heartbreaking that this series is over. Imagine where it could have gone with today's PC specs and dev skills.
They would make tons of other games look like shit.
Johnathan Cerda They should remake them and just use old voices to be honest
dont you dare say that.
Better stay this way. A masterpiece and a legend game. Games lately today are only only graphics, bad story bad gameplay.
@@BobMarleyChiti they said about remake on ps5 so hope they do with Simon and Michael
this is really well edited. great job
Nicholas Mills Thanks
This Legacy of Kain serial needs a remasterd, one of the best games i played in mine life.
i love it looks like theyre all having a laugh and enjoying working on this! the voice work in this series is incredible :)
I took me until watching this video that I learn that The guy behind Constable Odo is also Janus Audron,
R.I.P. René Auberjonois.
Story, world building, characters, voice acting and music, this game was ahead of his time
No, U wrong, If it were ahead of its time it would've been sh..t like the actual games.
2021, nearly twenty years later and I still cannot process the fact that this series had no continuation. This is the golden age of videogames, this is simply art in a humane form that seems to be absent from videogames nowadays. Thank you LoK series, the amazing writers and voice actors who made me fall in love with the English language. Vae victis!
I love Turel's part. The Lighthouse song is awesome!
YOU ARE A LEGEND FOR ME I spent hours looking for the song and it was right here! thank youuu so much
Glad you finally found it and I helped with that!
superqix know the track playing at vorador conversation?
Awekening to the World - Blood Omen : Legacy of Kain
Thanks man! I am searching for this theme for a long time.
Tony Jay's delivery of "inevitable" gave me the best sense of perfection. A true master that, with his passing, leaves a hole never to be filled.
Simon Templeman is such a boss! Been trying to mimic his style of speaking ever since I was a kid xD
I love the way this was edited with older cut scenes and art for clarity. It's really well done.
Edit: and for those concerned about the audio skipping out, that happens on the game disk. They're editing out things that might have caused copywrite troubles for them. For example, when Rene Auberjonois goes into his highpitched voice in the outtakes, he says he spent years playing Odo (on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), but they just removed the audio to avoid any problems.
+GEhotpants101 Nevermind the bits when they were just plain cursing
I like the way this presentation was put together...well done.
Hate coming back to these videos and seeing the little views this game deserves. The script, the story, the deeper lessons and vocabulary, all deserve so much more and the game deserves the conclusion of it all.
The graphics and gameplay may be outdated, but these games remain ridiculously amazing. They represent the pinnacle of voice acting, dialogue, and storycraft. I would happily rebuy they if someone would remaster them.
Amazing edition/mix of all the outtakes with cinematics even including BloodOmen 1, man this.. was awesome.. Years have passed and i'm still amazed of the high quality of the VA.. kudos to you man, great job!
Wonder if anyone got the reference at 23:28 - Tony Jay - may he rest in piece - says "Hyldenleben" - with it he refers to Strauss' famous work "Heldenleben". As a musician it cracked me up!
this game had some masterwork voice acting and one of the most complex stories ever.
“No more yoghurt, Elder God!”
18:44
I swear Tony Jay and Michael Bell kill me.
23:45 "You say that, while you hold in your hand the instrument of my doom?..be still my heart " Michael Bell , thank you so much for this gem.
Nice touch mixing the cinematic scenes from the game with the in-game and outtakes recordings. I especially loved how the background music was incorporated into the Raziel vs Hylden Janos, and Kain vs Elder God scenes. This is the best story based game series I've ever played. Wish they did more.
LoK was the best game series ever! I'm so glad that these fantastic voice actors were actually filmed for great videos like this!
I remember watching this as bonus content on the actual game disc.
It blew my mind and made me fall even more in love with the series.
RIP Tony Jay
One of my absolute favourite game series of all time and one of the biggest reasons for it was the sheer quality of the voice acting and how consistent it was.
The story is pretty good, the gameplay was fun, the graphics okay for that time. The music and voice acting is what made this series elite. If only more game studios understood this.
The best voice acting in a video game ever to this day nothing came close, I miss this game
The best voice acting ever
The most underrated franchise of all time. And also the one that truly deserves a remaster from start to finish.
You know when you can really feel the passing time - When you realised that voices which were a part of your youth are no longer to be heard. Still - amazing memories and amazing story.
RIP Tony Jay. No other could give the Elder God that level of majesty.
I wish they'd remaster these games
Square Enix owns the series now so they easily could if they wanted to.
Dan McLemore
what they are waiting for ... 😠
Danny Jablonski
me too
I wish I knew lol.
nah, they would ruin something...
Thank you for the upload. This is beyond awesome!
Best voice acting ever in video games!
I love how the Defiance ending was significantly re-recorded after much of this bonus material was filmed. The actors relentlessly mocking the cheesy lines single-handedly saved the game.
Still the best voice acting to this day.
I fucking love Micheal Bell, he seems to genuinely enjoy what he does and that joy is contagious.
12:44 DAMN those two together are amazing!
on that inevitable day, your wretched, stagnant soul will finally be mine!
sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. pfft
I am still haunted by the story and voice acting. I wish the series continued. Or remastered.
This was han era of masterpiece. No season pass, no dlc, no micro transactions. Just pure art. Story, Music, sound, voice acting and visual. It was just ahead of his time. If they do a remake one day, game industries will change and it will become fun again. Thats why we have so much remake now days.
The voice acting in Legacy of Kain is just amazing.
It's strange to think that Janos Audron is voiced by the same person who voices chef Louis in the little mermaid, and voices constable odo in star trek.
and now he is gone, RIP Janos Audron
damn
He also voices mr house in fallout new vegas.
even in 2017 the last game looks very good
Elder God: your soul is Mine!
Shang tsung: that’s my line!
Once a girlfriend broke up with me because I said if we ever had a son his name would be Raziel and there was nothing, nothing anyone could do to change that.
The voice acting, writing and story in this game were all amazing. Gameplay did get a bit repetitive but the story was good enough to keep you playing till the end.
Legacy of Kain, a true underrated masterpiece.
Thank you so much for uploading this ^^
The moment you play a game just to get to the next awesome cutscene
Tony Jay isnt dead. He exists in places you cannot find !.
Elder God: Your soul will be MINE!
Kain: Sticks and stones may break my bones *Kitty face*
Fun fact: Both Richard Doyle and Alastair Duncan voiced other roles after this game.
Doyle: Naked Snake/Big Boss in MGS4 Guns of the Patriots.
Duncan: Qualopec in Tomb Raider Anniversary.
Great underrated voice actors, truly incredible!
That was great. I don't think I'll watch a better video this year.
It's so weird hearing Tony Jay's natural speaking voice.
I always imagined him sounding like Megabyte 24/7
Thank you... I hadn't watched these ones since my PS2 broke down and I was bitterly missing them
OMG!! The Elder God's voice is orgasmic!!!
Greatest vampire story ever told.....
This game and resident evil 1 have the most memorable voice acting for entirely different reasons.
This series holds a very important legacy on my childhood and gaming life in general. It has taught me to think further and to question a characters true self worth and purpose. The Legacy of Kain series is a marvel in story telling and presentation. Not to mention its outstanding vocal talent. May it forever provide us with a gleam of indulgent knowledge of behind the scenes information :p so we may even better understand its making :p
Voices like chocolate
These actors are fucking incredible. Turels voice actor is so into it! "...ooooh, it remembers THAT! Does it?" So good.
This series enriched my vocabulary
i would pay the hell to see a remastered version of this awesome video game on nowadays video consoles.
I love how they're all going absolutely nuts. Plus, so many of them get to ham it up as villains.
And Turel, holy hell... that one is a riot.
This is something new videogames doesn't have, passion for the job well done.
I love how when Simon Templeman laughs as himself he still sounds like Kain haha.
One of the highest forms of entertainment for me. Only a handful few games remain on the same throne as the Lok franchise. Even to this date I am still blown away by the epic proportions of this game. It was definitely ahead of it's time.
Thank you for this nostalgia trip and thank all the people involved in this project!
my full thanks for keeping this alive.
SHIT! they are all so old xD
Not old, experienced.
Sebastian Todd also :D
RIP elder god, what a voice actor :(
Nice work on video editing and navigation! Perfect for sharing with friends who didn't play it in a while. Thanks a lot!
These outtakes are gold.. and in a world left without an LoK conclusion, these bring some degree of solace to my otherwise sorrowful heart.
legendary voice acting all of them, the best of the best
Amazing voice acting and absolutely incredible writing make these scenes timeless...
this is why you cast professional voice actors over hollywood actors. they can breath life into the characters.
I'm so grateful! Thank you so much, i had real pleasure watching this!
Simon fucking Templeman. What a voice, man.
i always forget that Avernus starts erupting starfox ships in Blood Omen.
also, Turel = The Gromble. amazing.
Awesome and challenging video game. Still play it today and love every bit of it. And Tony Jay's vocal contributions made it ALL THE BETTER...!!!
Legacy of Kain has great voice acting and beyond that it's writing is superb.
Gargoyles and Metal Gear Solid.
As a single game, it's easily forgetable. As a series, as a story, it stands alone at the top, an epic that only a proper novel can even begin to compare in its complexity, its dialogue, its scope.
Add to this an unparallelled voice talent and you've got an unique unforgetable gem that, unfortunetly, will not be enjoyed by this younger "next-gen" crowd.
Awesome blending the original music over Vorador’s mansion and Turel’s pit, it fits so much better there I think
The last time i used diapers i heard: "No more questions, no more workship, time to run, time to run, time to scream, time... to die!"
So much talent in that room
