      100% agree, my favorite formats, weirdly, are now the ones where they sit in front of the counter and review stuff, be it food, gadgets, ingredients, or what-not. It feels less about being silly and more about information, which I'm always here for. (I say weirdly because I used to love the old classic "we're making this thing today" kinds of basic recipe episodes, but they haven't really done that too much in recent years)

She would always visit us in Pennsylvania and even though she was the guest, she would insist on doing all the cooking and cleaning. She was an amazing woman. Trinidad and Tobago, and many African countries, have huge Indian influences. Cool to see them mentioned and appreciated. Doubles remind me of an Indian chole dish, but it’s a very unique interpretation. One of the many reasons why food is so beautiful

    • @noangelthis
      @noangelthis Месяц назад +2

      Yep, chole bhature/ puri chole particularly the amritsari variety. Addictive! Also, very true about the beauty of how food evolves and forms a common chord. Many of these influences in African nations, Caribbean, South Asian and even the UK, traces the journey of indentured slaves, colonial era enforced military servitude, displacement as well migration. Its a grim history but also a testament to sheer human spirit.

    The error is understandable (Spanish/Sephardic) but it's pretty garbled. And Eastern European Jews wouldn't use harissa.
    Also, sadly Mike is wrong about Canada being welcoming - look up the book "None is Too Many" about Canada's attitude towards Jews during WWII.
    Happy you tried, though!! ❤

    Here in PR they are several foodtruck that specialize in tripleta sandwiches. Basically, as long as you have 3 types of meats with stick potatos, mayoketchup and cheese qualify as a tripleta. That is not only a beach snack you can eat it at anytime of the day anywhere on the island in a local bakery or foodtruck. Even in fast foods you can find their own versions of it.

    hi, tangier native here! i have to say i've never seen this version of kalinti with toppings (adapted from caliente as you might've guessed) so bit surprised but i grew up eating this after school, it's sold by the slice (sometimes inside bread too) and usually is very thin and burnt on top - always ask for a corner slice for those yummy burnt edges. glad to see my country featured in any case :) another tangier street food thingy is hommos camoun (chickpeas with cumin) which consists of steamed chickpeas with a generous springle of cumin served in cones. hope you guys enjoyed this!

    Mike's answer on the sandwich being from the USA is right for another reason. It's very similar to a fat sandwich, created at Rutgers University in NJ in the 1980s. One of the big differences is there's no set fillings, it's a bunch of stuff topped with french fries. Also, it's mainly a drunk food.

    A small correction regarding the Jewish in Morocco - the emigration from Spain was in 1492 following the Alhambra Decree ordering to expel any Jewish who doesn't convert.
    As far as I know there was no Jewish immigration into Morocco following World War II, and I'm not sure what constituent (if at all) of Eastern European Jewish made up the Moroccan Jewish community.

Sweden? NOPE ('Tripleta'). 0 for 2. No clue on this one, I agree with Barry and well done, you! (Aww thanks Mike, I'm Canadian and I do try hard to live up to that stereotype) The last one looks stunning, I'm planning to make a mug brownie later for sure. Hmm. We have a video suggestion: the food team cooks a meal and the normals guess the dietary requirement the meal meets etc. Is it vegan, vegetarian, low-gi, gluten free, dairy or lactose free, etc.?
    Or anything with dietary stuff like how to turn your classic dishes into a dietary friendly meal with good substitutes!
