    Yes, it is mainly a fun entry. You should see the video, it's funny too, and has quite a different story to tell.
    About the lyrics, they have actually quite a positive message, even though perhaps not the most original one, that could be summarised "Be yourself and don't care what the others think". Here's what I think is the most important part of lyrics:
    Call me what you may, see if I care, see me slay
    Is there something wrong with the way I look?
    Is there something wrong with who I am?
    If I'm not alright, tell me why do I
    Feel so beautiful tonight?

    • @omegavalerius
      @omegavalerius 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it is a fun entry, but not a joke like some people think. You touched on the lyrics putting across a super positive message of being yourself and trusting that. But I think there is something to be said about just bringing a bunch of joy to the world.

    I'm going to say it Rachel - this is my current favourite song at Eurovision so far this year. Of course, it won't win, but I don't care. It should do well in the televotes, at least. The juries will kill it dead in the final, just as they did with Kaarija last year. Damn them. I see your camera loved it so much it fainted ...
    Fun fact - they sprayed those booty shorts with flame-retardant spray before the performance, so the sparks wouldn't set fire to them 🙂

    • @turtellok4964
      @turtellok4964 7 месяцев назад +7

      Käärijä wasn't "killed dead" by the juries, he came 4th or 5th, not sure right now

    • @patrickh3385
      @patrickh3385 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@turtellok4964correct - he came 4th with 150 points. He did divide opinion among the juries but because of the exponentially weighted model, the higher scores cancelled out the lower ones hence his strong result.

    Well, I had a pleasure to be there, at Nokia Arena during UMK. The crown went really crazy during their performance. Everyone just became cheerful, happy, smiled a lot. Seriously, the smile did not go off people faces during entire song. Sara was good. She really was. But I think her performance wasn't impactful enough. I talked to some Finns after the show (before results) and they were like "Coming here I really thought it's Sara. But after live performance I know it will be No rules". I kind of get why it was chosen after seeing this song live :)

    I am a 90's vibe girl and absolutely love this entry! I see no reason to over-analyse musical merits of it because it does not change me liking it. If comparison to Kaarija is necessary, I like this way more. Those who are passionate about Kaarija may not be happy with any successor after all. disagree that this is a pure joke entry cause there is a deeper message in the lyrics too.

  • @rinjoo3
    @rinjoo3 7 месяцев назад +11

    On the surface this seems like just another chaotic funny-song on stage on first watch, but the staging actually has so many clever details (easter eggs 😄) and everything is quite well planned. And the song has important message too, "do not care about what others say about you and do what you want to do". The song is also kind of parody of a cliche Eurovision song, but its not like they made it to be just a joke. One does not simply get to UMK final with total joke song anymore, and then also win it.
    That egg could refer to the birth of the world in Finnish mythology and he is born from it in the beginning. Which is why he doesn't have pants at first and then gets them on later. We had shirtless men for two years in row so why not pantless one too. The ropes that bring down the pants are eagle-shaped (there are eagle sounds in the song). Also the dancers/the one audience person are intentionally blocking the view to his legs untill he gets the pants, and that really requires precise camera work.
    For me the song is good and very catchy (and one of the best songs chosen for Eurovision so far this year), but its one of those songs that some people are just going to hate 🤣. I voted for Sara Siipola -Paskana, but she did not sing very well live so i can see why this won instead of it. This is not really Käärijä copy, its more of a big middle finger to Sweden and juries from Finland 😎.

  • @helix6592
    @helix6592 7 месяцев назад +17

    hey rachel! i agree this song isnt the most musically advanced but its so fun!!! if you weren't aware, this came 1st in the televote and last in the juries while the runner up, paskana (which means I'm a fucking wreck💀), came 1st in the juries and 2nd in the televote. a lot of people say that it was a stronger song than no rules but because its a slower songer and the 75/25 voting split, it just missed out. i was wondering if you could watch it in your own time (or even make a video if you want!) and tell us your views on it because i think its a beautiful song about grief and the death of a loved one that could've done really well at eurovision. your videos are amazing as always!!!

  • @tanjanikola9489
    @tanjanikola9489 7 месяцев назад +14

    There is Finnish mythology in the performance. In the Finnish epos, Kalevala, the world is born out of an egg (of a type of duck). W95M is born out of the denim egg, I guess laid by Henri, the bird. Obviously, he would not have pants on at first, but they descend from the sky and the party starts! Käärijä is unique, and there are very few performances that will be anywhere comparable to him. 😁
    Waiting to find out whether W95M will definitely attend, as they got a lot of negativity both with regard to the performance (some people were bitter about Sara not winning), and also there is added pressure regarding a certain country being allowed to take part.

    A lot of people in the fandom are hating on this because their favourite, Sara Sipola, didn't win! Her song was more musical but this one represents Finland a LOT more! In my opinion, this is how you do a throwback to the 90s, as opposed to many car crashes of songs in the NFs that we have. The live performance is very iconic with great vocals from voice actor Henri and the staging akin to the Finnish bird of freedom with the egg, Henri's feather suit and Windows95Man's plane dancing. This will be a televote magnet in May!

    This is a journey of an artist from birth to the membership in the society, how to find your true self. On the way to your authentic self you need to listen only your inner voice and you need to put aside the outer rules. No rules! This staging combines an individuals story to the Kalevala mythology of birth of this world of an agg of a goldeneye. Finding your true self is always fun, ego disappears. On his journey W95M borns naked in to this world and he needs to keep hiding himself, until he gets his pants and he can be an accepted member of the society (crowd applause) - it's time for fireworks and party! 💙💙💙 If we think of denim, it's something very strong, which can take a lot of life and it's even familiar to all of us. Henri, the singer, represents the bird and he's telling us the story ... to find the wind beneath my wings.... Well, to me he's adorable. Love your reactions !

    Just for everyone's information, this may not be the one going to Eurovision, after all! But anyway, I don't understand all the hate towards this, like why is this seen as "joke entry" only, but then Estonia's joke entry is suddenly seen as the best thing ever?! Like seriously?? Why are Eurovision fans now suddenly hating Finland, while it was everyone's darling last May...?! Undeserved, unfathomable & very fickle. But then again, ESC fans only represent a very small minority of all people, so...

    • @samisankey3104

      I know fans can be a little inconsistent and hateful at times. Although I think a lot depends on how the entry comes across, Finland last year and Estonia this year come across uniquely and are interesting. This year Finland just doesn’t quite seem to hit the spot and it comes across as just a joke entry with not much to back it up. I’m curious as to why it might not go to ESC?

    • @TiagoSilvaESC

      How can you even compare both?? Estonia is sending a fun and ethnic song with a professional and clean performance. Finland is sending a joke entry and making a complete circus on the stage. No one is hating Finland we just don’t like the song.

      @@TiagoSilvaESCLet me explain and make you see that It’s not a joke entry, Per Se, it’s fun entry with deeper meaning lyrics:
      Silence, I Say, This is my time, my stage!

      Love the message and also how it combines the Finnish mythodology Kalevala where the world is created from the goldeneye’s’ egg.
      In the stage performance the singer Henri represents the bird (see the similarity of the movements and the clothing) and the Windows95man is born (as all humans) naked. The stage coordinator tries in the middle of the song give the rules to our hero but he puts the instructions flying in the air. He wants to be free and who he is despite what the others try him to be! He is looking for his jeans shorts and finally they land from the heaven (mythodology) and our guy becomes Windows95man and starts the party with cheerful fireworks!💥
      So there you have the proofs that this is serious but fun and comes from our mythology. And is an empowering song for all the ones who are pushed down, different, minorities, demonized, harassed, bullied etc.

    I wasn't dead set on any one song in particular this year, none really stood out like Käärijä. After hearing all the songs it was clear this year was going to be a "Käärijä-hangover", he'd be a tough act to follow for anyone, our short king is super charismatic performer 💚
    My fav was Sini going in, the song was a banger, though I liked most of the UMK videos and songs for different reasons. But Sini's performance in NF crashed and burned, and I felt off abt other NF live performances as well. Comedy music as a genre is different from other musical genres since Comedy music song can resemble song from any musical genre. To review an Eurodance song resembling Comedy music song as an actual Eurodance song is an automatic failure. Looking into artist's and his song's background is basis for reviewing his song and performance, when the song and performance clearly has some narrative going on. E.g. that nude underpants thing might not have thrown you off, if you would have done that.

      Silence, I Say, This is my time, my stage!
      Call me what you may, see if I care, see me slay!
      Is there something wrong with the way I look?
      Is there something wrong with who I am?
      If I'm not alright, tell me why do I
      Feel so beautiful tonight?
      No rules! It's how I live
      How I find the wind beneath my wings,
      It's how I learn to fly!
      It’s an anthem for being who you are 🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🎉🎊
      Love the message and also how it combines the Finnish mythodology Kalevala where the world is created from the goldeneye’s’ egg.
      In the stage performance the singer Henri represents the bird (see the similarity of the movements the clothing) and the Windows95man is born (as all humans) naked.

    I'm way too German for this kind of humor. I like me a good joke entry, but this is on a whole other level of just...random.

      Please explain why you “hate” it? Anyway using that word is inappropriate. Just say you don’t like it and explain why you don’t like it. That is how a fruitful discussion can be made!

    An enormous downgrade for Finland if you ask me. I can tolerate it and there is a fun element to the song but I'm still finding it too cringeworthy and vocally weak.
