Okay, reptile owner advice - we have a specific thermometer device that you hook your heat lamp or other heating device into. You set your desired temp, and then if it goes above that temp it automatically shuts the light off, if it drops below that temp, it turns it back on. Soooo easy and good. For your anxiety question - yes, we totally leave our reptile lights on all the time, whether we're home or not, and I've never heard of anyone not doing that or having a problem doing that. I know this is super late, but hopefully that helps! My wife is a herpetologist and we have a bearded dragon and a Kenyan sand boa. ❤❤❤

Reptile owner here! I have both a Bearded Dragon and Leopard Geckos! Yes, I understand your anxiety with having a basking light on all day in your home. Most basking lights now days are self ballast and will turn off if they get bumped, which is a fire prevention design. I have my lights on a timer as well as a thermostat so that it monitors the temperature and ensures the lights aren’t getting too hot. I would recommend looking into get a temp gun (which helps you monitor temps within Annabeth’s enclosure) and possibly a thermostat. The thermostat for reptiles can be spendy, but it does give you a little more piece of mind that your basking light won’t go awry and cause issues especially if you aren’t right there at home.
again, these long vlogs are the best thing to start a cozy day 🥰 - annabeth as the outro is the cutest thing ever and it's perfect to read a little bit while she's roaming around🐢also, as soon as jake was on the screen my dog decided she wanted to watch with me 🤍
When my turtle(red ear slider) was in a tank inside we had a basking lap and I wasn't fully worried because I had it on a timer and it was one of the smaller/medium size ones that could just rest face down in the mesh lid. This was also probably like almost 20 years ago (got her when I was in elementary school). She now lives in a pond in the backyard so the sun is her heat lamp. 🐢🌊

1:25:40 Cousin and weeks user here! You described the exact problem I was having that lead me to buying weeks. I use the cousin as a 100% memory planner/journal and the weeks is my legit todo list. Russian Tortoise Owner here, Mister Ghostface! I have that fear all the time, had our tortise 3 years and fear it daily. Have a basking and uvb light on 12 hours a day and a ceramic heat lamp 24/7.
I leave them on when I’m home and if I leave, but the fear will trigger and I’ll turn it off. Something about this light scares me. But that being said I leave the ceramic heat lamp on 24/7 and still have this fear!! So I say your fear is valid but you will work it out! Totally winging it out here as a tortoise parent. 🐢🐢🐢 🐢

Hii I am a reptile mum of three African Fat Tail geckos and two leopard geckos ❤ I love the two hour vid by the way 🥹
for that basking heat to be left on, I have a thermostat that has a temp probe attached to turn off if the surface of the basking goes above a certain degrees as temp fluctuates a lot here (im in the UK). It can also be attached to the UVB we use that turns on and off at certain times I set 😊 I use the microclimate vevo but it's expensive and problematic 😢 I'm on a second unit and it still has weird issue like it thinks I'm touching the touch screen when I'm not. But it works and does what it needs to I can just forget about it 😊
As for leaving a basking heat outside, I recommend setting it up and mimic Annabeth's basking spot at a seperate place and turning it on just to see how hot the surface gets before using it on her I think. Get a heat temp gun and check below the basking area to see how hot it gets 😊 types of basking lights are a whole other headache for me 😩 i pray for you on your reptile journey🤣 if you do read this essay and have any questions please feel free to message me 🥰

Have 3 turtles two red ear sliders and 1 eastern box turtles all 3 have basking lights and uvb and the run when no one home with no problems. Also if looking for a substrait i recommend coconut fiber it great.

We had a beardie (indoors) and it’s lights were all on timers and I never worried about the lights when we weren’t home, and we didn’t have any issues ❤ 🐢

Re: good outdoor camera- My family has Reolink outdoor cameras in our pastures and they are fantastic! They are wireless and have motion detection 🐢🫶🏼
A slightly different situation, but I had aquatic turtles and they had heat and UV lamps that were on 8-10 hours everyday. If I remember correctly, they didn't even get that hot. They are made to be on safely! But I definitely worried about the lights falling into the water and.. ending poorly. Happy to report there were no issues!!

Desert tortoise girlie here!!!! Yes I hate leaving the house with the basking lights on!!! I’m hoping I won’t have to use them at all this year. I’ve had them both fall over (thankfully not on top of the shell babies) and one start randomly smoking????? It was some clip light brand for both so that was the worst choice. I hate them and I’m paranoid ✌️ but definitely once I switched to a dome light with the stand that’s sturdy… I can leave them on when I’m not home and haven’t had an issue!

Love the vlogs!!! Watch and rewatch!!!! Instructional Aides are incredibly vital(as you know as an educator). However, speaking as an educator from a New England school system, they are treated incredibly poorly. As a retired teacher, I volunteer in classrooms rather than taking a “job.” Private tutoring is awesome.

Love a long Olivia vlog! For the outdoor camera for Annabeth, I would look at those cameras that hunters use in their tree stands. They are probably great for the different types of weather too. I have a turtle, not tortoise but I still have to use a basking light for her. It doesn't bother me having it on but I do use a Govee dual smart plug to set my lights on a timer to follow daylight schedule. I love the smart plug! You can always turn it off or on when you are away from home, comes with an app for your phone. 🐢🌻

The canon selphy is perfect for that! It’s a little pricy (to me) but once I realize how good the quality was, it was worth it!

I had a similar fear about my sun lamp for light therapy (it's halogen, so yeah) just in case, so I had my boyfriend put it on a device (google home) that let me connect to an app to turn it on and off remotely or for a set amount of time to reduce risk. You could use something like that maybe? You could even point a camera at the bulb or set some kind of smoke alarm, if you need to check in. I am NOT a reptile owner, but as I struggled with a similar fear and found a work around, thought this might help.

I know I am watching a video from 6 months ago but I used a weeks as my reading journal last year and it was really effective. I've changed to a bu jo sitch this year though, only because I am doing a lot of readathons this year so have more to write than normal. I definitely recommend the weeks as a book journal for anyone who doesn't want to write a tonne and keep it pretty simple. Also, that printer looks fantastic... which one is it?
I have a heating coffee mug, got it from Amazon for £25! it’s great as I used to always microwave the coffee as I’d forget about it and then it would taste like trash. I’m here waiting for when we hit the 3hr mark on the videos 🤠 as someone who works from home i love listening to you!
Just went through my bookmark glass. Got rid of the paper bookmarks you get from bookstores. Since I swear I had at least 50 or more. Kept my decorative bookmarks instead. So now I can actually put all of bookmarks in the glass😂
