This band's discography is about 10 years old. They are one of the main search results for djent as they pioneered it alongside Animals as Leaders and Meshuggah. Each album explores more depths into what metal can be. Altered State is the album before Polaris which had a different vocalist for that one album only. Many people see that album as being the most powerful and coherent album to date.

Haha I'm blushing from all the shout outs, but it's our job to point you to the good stuff 😅
They formed mid 2000s and had various demos, but their debut lp One came out in 2011 and was instantly influential across prog and metalcore. It had a lot more harsh vocals and slam too.
Just glad you're enjoying the musical journey man!
I felt like I was retired from making any more suggestions but dammit I just know you'll love VOLA - Head Mounted Sideways. It dropped last week and has a blend of these djenty bands, but also a strong hit of that OSI - Radiologue electronic vibe.

    Tesseract suggestions :
Juno (it's the best song from their newest album.)
Eden (their best song ever imo. So dynamic. So powerful. 10/10 riffage. So emotional, so atmospheric)
    Seven Names
    April

  • @VexChoccyMilk
    @VexChoccyMilk 3 года назад +16

Constructive criticism (because I want you to succeed):
Invest in a mic boom arm so you can keep the mic closer to your face.
Get a pop filter to counteract the mic being closer.
Change the microphone settings. Whenever you talk it quiets the music, which kills the flow. Balance it so we can hear you talking over the music without it getting quieter.
    More Meshuggah pls.

Finally, glad you liked them! King, Juno, Survival, Utopia, Conceiling Fate Part 1 and 2, and Eden 2.0 should keep you busy for a while. Their video performing the first part of their album Altered State in studio with their previous vocalist would be a good place to continue! Tesseract - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios) or something is the title of the video. Its a long one but concidering you've done several 15-20min songs already that shouldnt be a problem :)

According to wiki, they started out in 2003, funnily enough :D
Their first EP came out in 2010 though, same time Periphery debuted - the djent/prog metal scene has these connections all across the board, another "brother" group to check out would be Monuments, one of whose guitarists (John Browne, another beast of a player) played in the same band (called Fellsilent) with Acle Kahney, the guitarist, main songwriter and mixing genius of Tesseract.
These three bands are among the favourites of mine, I think the three guitarists - Acle, Misha, John - were absolutely essential in creating the modern djent sound (apart from early pioneers and influences like Sikth and Meshuggah of course), but IMO they were the ones who made it successful and mainstream.
They all have their own home studios where they record, mix and master everything themselves, which is part of the reason why their sound is so distinctive and perfected - starting off there were no record companies to bug them with release dates, radio singles and generally no one telling them what to do, so they remained original and fresh.
Periphery is the crazy one, going high as the heavens and down to hell in the same song three times at least, a vocalist who can do anything he wants and still makes it sound good, also catchy as anything in pop, full of hooks and melodies to sing along to. Bunch of metalcore influence here. Anything from PII (2012), PIV (2019) or Juggernaut Alpha/Omega (2015, double album) is great. From a passionate and curious music listener's point of view, they are my favourite. When I listen to them, they can make any other band seem redundant. They have come the furthest, improved the most IMO, you can follow their evolution across their albums, and what an evolution it is!
Monuments is the groovy one, fast and technical riffs, downpicking like a machine, with songs expertly crafted along main guitar themes and motifs. A bit more "metal" than Periphery, less catchy, but you can still catch even Michael Jackson influences in vocals here and there. From a guitarist's point of view, I like them the most and they are the most influential to my playing and songwriting. Awesome tunes. The Amanuensis (2014), in its entirety, is absolutely impeccable, has me headbanging every since I've first heard it.
Tesseract is the atmospheric one. Ridiculously tight rhythm section, thiccest bass grooves of the three, soaring vocals, full of emotion. You'll find something new in each of their albums, but One (2011) is the old-school djent stuff, and while looking back, somewhat maybe crude in execution, still a sign of what's to come nonetheless. Altered State (2013) is their absolute magnum opus IMHO, I don't think they or anyone else will come close to perfection and catharsis like that album delivers, make sure to listen to that in one sitting if you can, it's a journey (they had a different vocalist here, a master of harmonies, but no harsh vocals). Polaris (2015) is the accessible sound, retaining most elements, but with more digestible songs. Sonder (2018) is the amalgamation of all that's come before. Their vocalist is a role model of mine, honestly, Daniel Tompkins is world class. From a singer's point of view, I love them the most and I've learned the most from them as well.
These three bands are probably whom I'll recall in my later years, much like my father did with Rainbow, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and countless others, as those I grew up with.
If anyone thinks that rock and metal are dead and just noise and screaming, or just stuck in the past without anything to show for nowadays, I just point to these three bands, who basically spearheaded a new subgenre of metal in the past ten years or so. This is our generation, and as much as it was a meme at first (000-000-00-0-0-0-000-000 riffs and TH0LL and other bullshit), I'm happy I'm here to witness it.
Anyway, long ass TED talk over, bring anything from these guys: you'll hear a banger and I'll be happy for you. :D

Yeah!!! Tesseract is just one of those bands with the little extra. One of my all time favourite bands. I stumbled upon them back i 2007 when they did their first demo named Tesseract. It was mindbending at that time, and the songs there are still among my favourite songs. The demo can be found on youtube, check itt out.
Anyway; can’t wait for more Tesseract, they deserve alle the love and attention they can get.
My suggestions; Acceptance - Concealing Fate Pt. 1. This is their «national anthem» and was the song that got me into them in 2007. It was re-released as the first song on the album One. And it is a beyond great.
    And if you were to do a full album react;
    Altered State.
    It is a M A S T E R P I E C E in the true sense of the word.

Anything from the Altered State album can't go too wrong. I'd recommend "Of Matter" studio version for the true album experience. The live studio version is incredible though as is "Of Mind". I'd also really think you'd appreciate Monuments. Very groovy band with similar elements/vibes to Periphery/Tesseract. All 3 groups are actually connected as the former vocalist of Monuments was in Periphery for a time & a guitarist from both Tesseract & Monuments were in a band together called Fellsilent. Monuments recommendation would be "Mirror Image" for not too confusing grooves haha. But they can go pretty hard & technical when they want to if you go digging into more of their stuff. If you read all that too as it was hella long maximum respect 😂👍

The thing about acle and misha is that the two of them are considered the creators of modern "Djent" music, tesseract has been around the same amount of time as periphery, i like to consider them sister bands but each one has gone separated ways and created the 2 main branches of djent(one being the heavy and melodic and the other being the heavy but atmospheric) and the basis that a lot of bands in the genre from 2011 on would be inspired by.

So that artwork is for the special edition of Polaris that paired the album (the mutli-coloured rainbow tesseract), with the EP Errai (overgrown tesseract), where they took songs from Polaris and stripped them back to a semi-acoustic sound. It's 4 songs, run time of around 17 minutes, you should totally livestream the whole thing if you get the chance. Tesseract are quickly becoming an institution of English prog, cannot wait for lockdown to be over so I can see them live... and I'll totally look out for you in the moshpit, Drew!

FINALLY. The deeper you dig into this band, the more I think they're going to climb up your list. Daniel Tompkins is one of the best vocalists out there today. I love the fact that he's not a big screamer in a djent band. It just emphasizes the way you can combine melody with heavy 8-string guitars if you know what you're doing. They have an awesome online presence too. They're also one of the most active bands I've seen during the pandemic and do a ton of live streams.
My recommendation is go back and start from the beginning. Concealing Fate: live in studio

When you start sayin' "If you know that I know that you know that I know that...." - Was that a reference to the classic "Friends" episode when Chandler and Monica pretend to not know that they know that everybody else knows that they are gettin jiggy with it in supposed secret?😁👍 That was the first ting I thought of anyhoo. Tesseract themselves have been a big force on the prog scene for a while now and yeah, Id also assume to brotha that you will dig 'em. More good stuff to delve into. Ill plug Animals as Leaders "CAFO" aswell again! What an explosive piece of music that is. Fits in too, with the Doom, technical djent you've been liking lately.

If you're ever trying to listen to something that is completely different from what you normally listen to, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is a great band to check out.

After Fellsilent (Akle's old band) split up, Tesseract and Monuments were formed, around 2009/2010. Both from the UK, and Monuments are well worth checking out too, a bit on the heavier side. I'd be very surprised if you didn't enjoy their tunes, if you enjoy Tesseract and based on your reactions to heavier stuff like Meshuggah as well

Bro you have to check Of Matter! Thats from their masterpiece to this day. "Altered State". His vocalist Dan is amazing, but what they accomplished musically with Ashe O'Haraa, is a record very profound and Spiritual in my opinion.
