I've been doing intermittent fasting for 10 months now. I do 16/8. 17/7, 18/6 & two 24 hr fasts per month. I found the first 24 hr fast difficult(mild headache) but now I find it easy to do. I'm doing lower carb(not keto), moderate protein & moderate fat. I do resistance training & some HIIT. I'm now into a 36 pant & have reduced my A1C. I'm 77 years old.

Thank you for your wonderful information. I had Covid in November 2020 and due to being morbidly obese struggled mightily to recover. In March 2021 I found myself at 360 pounds. Initially I restricted calories and added weightlifting 5 mornings per week. I had some success but that really took off when I started 16:8 fasting every day. I finally went to a BMI below 30 and weigh 244 today. I'm still working on losing weight and added nightly walks after dinner. I prefer to walk outside, but have been in the treadmill as I live in northern IN and it's too stinkin' cold outside!!!

It's always difficult in the first week. Until your body can become fat adapted through fasting, you will feel sluggish and hungry. After the first week, you begin to start feeling amazing. So much more energy, cognitive boost from the brain using ketones. For some people, it can take some time to become fat adapted. Especially type 2 diabetics with insulin resistance.

I'm 55. I've been doing 16:8, 5 days a week for 5 years. I do calisthenics and run 5k, 2 to 3 times a week and regularly play soccer. I walk a lot not owning my own car. In my opinion it saved my life or at least significantly extended it. Before making the change I was practically vegan and had been a plant based eater most of my life. When I switched eating protocols I also switched to more fat and meat based diets. I'd like to go carnivore but I cannot afford it.
There are still negative aspects to how I eat. I still consume sugar and flour, it's hard to avoid in my household, and I enjoy wine at the weekend. My wife is little interested in how I approach my health and as I am the one with the 'high cholesterol despite her being on the verge of obese and this affecting her metabolism and mobility she considers me to be the sick one.
When I made the change, I changed a lot. I had been suffering narcoleptic events after meals to the extent that it affected my work. I was also incredibly skinny and could not put on muscle which made exercise really strenuous. Now I am growing muscle where once I struggled.
I will never give up fasting. It is now how I approach nutrition. Where I work, People spend all day eating and going to the bathroom and I just float through the day wasting less time on these activities ;) that in itself is liberating.

I turn 32 next week and I'm so happy I've found a routine for health which works for my body. I've been following you for a while but when you are passionate about something, it appears as a rant and for me you become hard to follow, but I loved this video you were much calmer. ❤️. I am a 70year old female diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2001 and given all the wrong information given out by the ADA and AHA at the time. Began walking in 2007, purchased Wii Gaming System and every Exercise Game I could get my hands on as well as exercise videos (VHS) I got my glucose numbers in an acceptable range, down from a HbA1c if 11.9 to approx 6-7 range but new nothing about insulin. It took mid 2010 to lose 35lbs down from 195 but the remaining fat loss was a struggle. Dec 2020, 140lbs (height 5'3"). I couldn't get a handle on HBP, cholesterol, but insulin levels were probably sky high cause visceral fat stuck to me like white on rice. The "lockdown" sent me from my local recreation center, having moved from home exercising and outside walking to Certified Group Fitness Instructor, have trained on Calories in, Calories out, with my obvious belly fat.
Pandemic has been good for me as I went to RUclips to watch lectures, science, and medical; and Google, Scholar and Research, became my friend. Home exercise, one RUclipsr in particular, through a lower intensity training (I live on the 5th floor) because I wanted to be kind to my neighbors, kicked started NY visceral fat loss: Asian based exercises, Lymphatic Drainage Practices and Moderate Intensity Dance Aerobics. I added in IF, 6 days a week and 24plus 1 day a week. I'm done to 120lbs, exercise daily, approx 2.5/3hrs a day. I eat two meals a day. After my first meal around 1/2pm, I do a 15-30min low impact, Moderate Intensity Aerobic routine to walk down glucose spikes after doing my Asian, Lymphatic and Aerobic exercises in a Fasted State. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. NY next medical checkup is Feb 5th, I'll see how that goes, especially the Labs, if they are ordered.

But just as a side note the journal that this paper was published in is part of the publisher MDPI, who is basically accepting money for the publication of papers with its huge set of generic journals, and all submitted paper getting published extremly fast (look at the dates)! So this publisher is under critic for publishing anything without real pear reviewing of the science. Essentialy this might not be as robust as the paper suggests it is and should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Thank you for the info on 5:2 non-consecutive day fasting. Though I’ve not really pursued that info, what I’ve heard about 5:2 wasn’t explained so simply-nor the targeting depending on what amount of fat the individual would like to lose.

I’ve been fasting & mostly changed my diet. I purchased powdered veggies & some fruit “superfoods “. I actually enjoy putting them in a cup of plain yogurt with a bit of powdered honey for some kind of enjoyment. I rehydrate a few freeze dried blueberries & strawberries for texture. The mix is actually very delicious. I have the powdered avocado & broccoli coming soon. I said that to day this; I purchased a bellicon rebounder in which I love! But with me getting there “superfoods” in , I have to 💩 every damn morning. It’s like an own & off 💩 thru the day 😂. I don’t have the capacity most days to want to workout with that situation but the gag is I’ve lost a lot of weight being mainly keto & fasting.

I use IF for weight maintenance. I am not trying to lose weight, I lost 180 pounds 5 years ago with calorie restriction, exercise, IF as well as low carb. I have been IF since July 2020. It’s great for my focus and productivity during the day. I am a morning person and eating breakfast slows me down. I like the fact that I don’t have to focus on food. I drink water all day until I break fast at 1pm or 2pm. I even work out fasted. I am muscular despite fasting even more so now since prior to fasting. I see some benefits. All my labs are great and within normal limits. Great video ❤️

I became diabetic 4 years ago and all my testimonial doctors had me chasing my tail and my A1C went from 6.7 from to high 10’s. Utilizing their changes adding medications and eating whole grains didn’t help at all and I wasn’t losing weight I eventually turned to the internet and started intermittent fasting and my A1C is now normal with no medication and the brain fog went away as well as fatigue incorporated with walking and stretching daily. I feel so much better and I enjoy my meals so much more than ever before. My blood pressure was also completely out of control. I’m so much better. I had to turn to the internet and that is how I got results. Basically after I ended up piecing together all the recommendations this gentlemen said. I added vitamin b and vitamin d and that combo was the fix. Intermittent fasting, low carbs and exercises/stretching and vitamin b and d. The weight fell off and has stayed off.

Been fasting for the past 2 years with amazing results. ive done it from all from 24 hours to as low as 16. The sweet spot for me is 18 hours 12pm-6pm. Good nutrition is mandatory with ZERO processed food. White sugar and vegetable oils are the WORST things that you must eliminate. This stuff is everywhere sprinkled in almost every packaged food, even organic. Thats right organic white sugar or even brown which is less than .1 percent different, are still processed with ZERO b vitamins and minerals that have been stripped out which will cause insulin resistance with many other problems. Organic vegetable oils are still garbage because they oxidize really fast. Use 100% grass fed butter which is the best along with 100% avocado, 100% sesame oil, or 100% olive oil. It has to be 100% because the law only requires a minimum of 10% of the oil to be called by that name. Guess what they get diluted with? vegetable oils !
if you need a natural sugar then colombian panela sugar or brazilian rapadura sugar are whole cane unprocessed dehydrated cane juice with all the b vitamins and minerals in tact.

A lot harder to get restarted then when I was doing it well before the last two years...just so much more mental stress, and then even more the past year of the potato in charge. ..... This year during Lent, I will do a 48 hr IF, my wife doesn’t like me prolong fasting. Here is the thing with prolong fasting for me. Doing 24 hour shift work makes it hard to have one routine with intermittent fasting. Becoming more flexible with my approach has made it so much more manageable. Day shifts I never eat after dinner and have black coffee for breakfast, afternoons I stop eating earlier in my shifts around 5pm, night shifts I only eat once during the night the. Sleep through the bulk of the fast. But on any given day, i have kids and work to maintain energy for. If I need to cut a fast short (down to even only 10-12 hours) I allow myself that day of not fasting much and try to eat healthy still and set myself up for the next day. Being less strict with always trying to reach a certain number per day makes it such an easier lifestyle to maintain

Is there any research on TRT and fasting plus cardio? I asked due to an personal experience that seems important.
I was using IF as a 45 YO and noticed that while doing cardio, I would often smell ammonia. Around the same time I got my T levels tested and they were between 300 and 500 so I decided to hop on TRT which brought me up to 800 to 900.
Within 3 months my cardio had massively improved and no matter how hard I am dieting (IF or otherwise), I never get ammonia sweat while doing cardio.
I interpreted this as testosterone protecting my muscle tissue preventing excess protein breakdown while doing cardio which of course contributed the nitrogen in the ammonia molecule.
I am only casual researcher when it comes to this and not an expert so I would love to hear from an actual expert.

Here, here! Everyone should be talking about this -- or be aware of it at any rate. About exercising accelerating the benefits of intermittent fasting by depleting glycogen stores -- I'm surprised that wasn't already "common sense." I'm not a scientist, but from learning about intermittent fasting and low carb diets, if your body can't get glucose from your food, doesn't it go to glycogen next? And if there's none there, then it switches over to fat burning metabolism, no? So of course it's good to know this, but it totally makes sense to probably most of your followers. I will look at the different chapters of this video in more detail tonight. Thanks!

We have been intermittent fasting for a few months now. And in terms of my husband I see huge improvement. Just in how his mornings are. We are spending our winters south scuba diving and a friend in our group was all over me about how this was wrong! She tells me her sister did it and the sister's daughter is a diabetic educator. And she absolutely under no circumstances should anyone fast and that it gives you diabetics and that now her sister is prediabetic. I get that she totally loves her niece and is proud of her but I think that the diabetes medical experts have been teaching the wrong strategies for ever. My brother is type 2 diabetic and is now experiencing metabolic disease but he won't hear of anything but what his medical experts tell him. Frustrating. Did the 23 and me DBA test recently and I'm at risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetics so when I get back to Canada I definitely want to put that to my doctor and gave some tests done and see where I pan out.
