I would glue felt to one side of the poster board to help the pieces stay in place. The foam poster boards idea is GENIUS!

I just lay a clear plastic table cloth over my puzzle on my dining room table. Works good. Pieces don't go anywhere and the cats stay out of them.

I've been watching you for almost a decade for tabletop gaming, and now I find out you're a puzzle master too?! Marco, you never cease to amaze.
Thank you for holding to your authenticity for all these years, making top notch content free of the corrupting influence of ads and other monetization influences. I know you wouldn't have it any other way. You're the real deal through and through.

I was just getting ready to purchase a puzzle carrier, but I like the idea of the foam board and clips. I will tape or glue some flannel fabric to each piece of foam board to keep the pieces from slipping around. Should only cost me about $5. Thanks so much for the review of puzzle mats!

Thanks for this video. I didn't think about storing my unfinished puzzle clipped between top and bottom foam boards.

I have the 1500 piece porta-puzzle caddy. On your video I notice you did not completely close the flaps to where they are touching each other. I find that if I pull the flaps to touch each other and also pull the top and bottom flaps as far as they can go over the double flaps, that the puzzle pieces stay in place. This caddy works perfectly for me because I can free up my dining table especially during the holidays. I'm going to buy one for my daughter-in-law who has hinted she'd been wanting one of these.

Thank you for this! Rediscovering puzzles with my young kids and I'm now really enjoying doing some on my own, and as they're getting bigger and more complex, I really need the ability not to take up our whole dining table😅! 😅

I have a room i have dedicated to my puzzle hobby. I made my own puzzle board. 4ft x 4ft. When i decided to start doing bigger puzzles i realized that i needed a bigger board. So i payed someone i know with more mad skills working with wood than i have to make me a new one 6ft x 6ft.. i placed it ontop of a cheap but sturdy table.

    1 large diameter pool noodle
1 piece of felt from the fabric store.
Ribbon cut to length to tie around pool noodle after rolling felt around.
Now you have a homemade puzzle roll.

I made my own roll up mat with a foam tube and a thick felt sheet advertised for practicing Chinese calligraphy. Fairly inexpensive and I haven't tried yet, but I'm pretty sure I could store a 2K piece on it pretty easy.

At 13:30 you mentioned using swim pool noodles along edge of your puzzle. Instead, one could use clear plastic tubing cut like a Pacman to slide onto edges and it would take less space.

Just got a porta puzzle second hand so I wasnt sure if I could store it vertically, I put an older puzzle in it, sorted all the pieces and put it away vertically and they all fell down, some even fell out. My puzzle had a more soft paper back to the pieces instead of the cardboard type backing most have and I think that's what did it. Anyway, thanks for the info, now I have a better idea what I can do with this thing

That DIY puzzle board is great! Unfortunately I have no idea what a poster board is in German. The translations I found were not helpful.
Edit: Ahhh, it's plaster board! Now I know what to look for. 😁

    • @emdee8840
      @emdee8840 2 месяца назад

No, what you want to look for is foam board or foam core. It is sold in art supply stores and craft stores. It is basically two pieces of thin paper with a layer of plastic-like foamy material sandwiched in-between the two sheets of paper. It is sturdy, yet lightweight.

I've seen other videos where puzzlers put the puzzle on a piece of foam board (some places call it foam core), then they smear mod podge all over the face of the completed puzzle, using a small foam brush. Wipe off the excess mod podge with a soft paper towel. Then when the mod podge is dry, gently lift the edges of the puzzle and use tacky glue or hot glue to adhere the puzzle to the foam board. Place a couple of books on it to weigh it down and help the puzzle and glue grab hold of each other. When dry, use 3M command hooks to safely hang your puzzle masterpiece!

For me with the puzzle mat the biggest negative is that I just don’t like puzzling on it and the way the pieces stuck in the felt. I want to puzzle on a firm background.

Within the roll up tube you are using in that video, it has a soft core. That could well prevent pieces from bending as they would press against that when rolled up in the felt. You are using a soft core for some reason! However firm cores, such as cardboard DO cause bending of pieces. That is from expererience which I can't very well pretend otherwise. So I do know it is absolutely TRUE that roll up tubes DO cause bending and let there be no mistake about that! Marco, if you still dont believe that then put that softcore one aside and get yourself one with a firm core. Then you will learn to give correct advise.
