Gotta get that million dollars of camera equipment before you can start a youtube channel Hollie, everyone knows that! No j/k, go make it happen with whatever you've got!
There was an old saying among emergency vehicle trainers: "Drive or shoot; don't try to do both!" With the advent of iPhones and similar cell phones, we can no longer say, "I never have a camera when I need one." My big Nikons sit mostly on the shelf now. Usually when I'm off road I'm driving alone, so I don't get video except through my front windshield mount! You're amazing - you've accomplished so much, and we appreciate you taking us along!
Thank you Hollie!! I've had a channel for years and done nothing with because I didn't think my footage and equipment was good enough. But you're absolutely right! What's the worst that could happen?? You are an inspiration to me and my wife. Hope to get to meet you some day. Love you doll!!
wait say what?????? Walter is not running Camra for you? well dang, and here I thought Walter was your version of hunter. and your eye shadow looks well done. so not only do you have video talent, fab talent. And a master off roader, you are good at makeup as well. talk about multi-talented! you go Hollie
Great video Hollie. My wife is a YT creator and retired from her nursing job last August. It is amazing the amount of work that goes into creating YT content. She just recently got monetized and that has given her additional motivation to do more. Her content is mostly done in her workshop with an iPad and her phone.
This is such a great video and loved the photobombs in the middle. I'd also even add that a great thing to have is a good internet connection if you're uploading videos. Thanks for this!
Glad it was helpful. Improvements in your audio and visual storytelling will happen over time. Just start creating content, sharing your stories and - most importantly - stay consistent. I can’t wait to watch your channel grow!
Idea Holly, @ 13:05 when you were showing how close you got to the camera & tripod, could you put a flag on a stick on the tripod to stick up high enough for you to see it from Mischief Maker as you are approaching the camera on the trail? Like the flag you have on the back of MischiefMaker.
This is so refreshing!! I know I tend to get caught up in things being professional and the right equipment when in reality my skill in story telling and audio doesn’t warrant the best camera etc.
I don’t edit and publish my videos, which makes life much simpler . That said what I do occasionally shoot with are 2 DJI action cams (version 1), 3 older DJI drones (P4, Air1 & Air2), and a DJI pocket 2. One of these days I should probably edit some of my footage and publish a few. But I mostly use these cameras for off road club documentation, or still photos for myself. And for that they work just fine.
Great video Hollie! For an action camera I love the Osmo Action 3. So much better than GoPro.. 40 minute battery life (adventure combo comes with 3 batteries $299) I’ve never lost footage or sound either.
Thanks so much for this, Hollie. I've been wanting to get my RUclips channel up and running for have been so focused on getting the right gear, it's fallen behind. My channel will be multifaceted, focusing on bringing my health back as well as my automotive and musical aspirations. Thankfully, as much time as I spend watching the (mainly) Utah based off road channels (MORR, FabRats, Mischief Maker, Trail Mater, Robby Layton, etc.) my automotive interests tend to lean more to the 2wd performance, hot rod, custom, etc end of the hobby, which will cut out the climbing up and down dunes setting up and recovering cameras.
When I posted videos on RUclips, years ago. I used a Flip video. Good quality vids, but I wasn't getting paid for them. At the time,I wasn't aware Ii could be paid ,but I just kept putting them out there. Of course Flip is no longer covered by Cisco, and my camera now is a CCBetter ,also outdated, but still takes great shots. I just don't put them out.
Personally i love the above center cam that kinda shows driver views and once in a while the articulation is good too!!! The drone is always epic cause you can see some amazing views from it!! But for me the best shots are the driver views to see what you see or DONT SEE like the drops and all you see is skyLOL
You got a good workout Holly making this video. And it's nothing compared to what you do for a big event. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and trying to show what is involved in the basic side of making a U tube channel. You look much better after you broke your back. I'm Shure you don't feel perfect but you still rock.
We think it's so cool that we were apart of the first-ish full-time weekend at Aetna and AOP. FYI we follow all those other folks, except for one, because of your channel. Keep it up. We'll be in S UT the middle/end of Oct and hope to wheel w you again at your home park.
Great video. I would love to get more insights into how you edit your videos. What video editing software do you use and what subscription do you use for your music?
Casey La Delle gets some fantastic video using a 360 degree camera. It records in all directions at once, so when you edit you can pick which way the video is looking. He doesn't use a drone, but he gets wonderful shots using a camera on a long stick! You might want to give him a shout out to find out exactly what he is using. This could do wonders for your fluidity because it's like having a bunch of cameras running at once. I think you could just run a trail without ever stopping to set up a tripod. I think Rory does the same thing with a shorter stick, so he can get low front wheel shots.
I love your stuff Hollie. Thanks for this info. My biggest question is how do you store all of the footage? It fills up my phone so quick. Thanks in advance❤
Honestly my little channel we just use my phone and 2 cheap Campark 4k action cameras for either onboard or static shots, honestly I don't 100% rate go pros because they are so expensive, being an RC channel the risk of damaging the camera is high and what's harder is keeping the car in shot from the static mount on the controller than people think
Thanks hollie for that video it helps me out knowing that I’m not putting a lot of unnecessary effort into it now knowing everyone else does the same thing. It just takes time going back and forth between the shots and moving the cameras. I’ll have more videos out on my other channel. 😎👍 Thanks.
I learned something from this one. Thanks. Hopefully I can apply some of this and make my videos better. I have to get over not wanting to look funny getting out to set up a camera, especially when no one is around. 😅
51 Drones has a video: "You Should Buy the DJI Mini 3 Pro in 2024 ...." I won't speculate about whether it would be a good drone for you but it had a good price DECREASE because of the new Mini 4. I purchased a Skydio like yours in late 2022 but returned it for reasons unrelated to your use. And I am glad I returned it since Skydio abandoned the consumer market and now only builds commercial drones. You can have some good use from a drone where as my drone use is a somewhat expensive "hobby". Regardless I certainly enjoy watching where you can go with Mischief Maker.
Ms Lovely, just the video i needed to see. Love that everyone of rhe orher channels i watch took the time to show us viewers the cameras they use in this video. Says a lot about the other channels and their love and caring for you. When i decide I've sat on my platform idea for far too long, id like to meet you in person and create my 1st upload on my platform with you. Maybe even your channel will become my 1st presentation on my platform. Wish i could tell you about my platform idea, but its just too valuable of an intellectual property to just throw out into the world without NDAs to ensure i benefit, as well as the world, from it. Much love❤
Thanks for the incite of how you do the things you do. Not particularly interested in filming myself doing anything I don't do wheeling or mechanics type things and pretty sure that even if I did and tried filming myself doing them if anyone would want to watch. But it's good to know that in the off chance that if I did or anyone else for that matter you've show at least how you do what you do and if someone is so inclined to do similar content they now have at least an Idea of how to go about doing it. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing girly 🤙 It's great tips. I got a phone and a buggy, both are usually broken, but try and hold the phone steady while shifting, love seeing the community come together and inspire everyone to just get out there and film it ❤❤
Well you do a great job Hollie, but I thought Walter helped you ? I know it's tough Hollie but your living your dreams and that is AWESOME. You have a great channel 👍 Thanks for showing us how you do it.
I absolutely love and appreciate this video!!! I'm in the process of trying to get over that "hump" of being comfortable talking to a camera. Andy ohine has horrible memory, but im.gonna keep persisting
I have two questions. First being what editing software do you use. Second is why do you choose to use your phone versus action camera for the shots that you setup outside of the vehicle? I would be more concerned with running over or weather damaging my phone than an action camera.
The Osmo Pocket 3 is blowing up right now. It’s so funny because it’s been out for such a long time and it’s like people are just now noticing how awesome it is 🤣
Good to know! I noticed Ian using one sometime ago but never pulled the trigger. Maybe you could do another video on what device you using for editing and what apps. I use my phone, InShot and RUclips music. Thanks for all the info 👊
As per edit time, midnight or 1am, as you yave responded to my comments about those times.... we have actually had conversations during those times. 😊😊😊😊😊
For me, getting the footage has always been the easy part. How do you find an inexpensive, easy to use, editor and actually do the editing part? I've tried multiple inexpensive editors, and they are extremely confusing to use and I give up. I'm disabled with a disabled partner and now down to four of nine kids. So, we don't have a budget for hundreds or thousands of dollars in editing software or fancy computer hardware. Most of our computers/laptops are 10-15 years old and the phones just don't have the processing power (they crash a lot trying to edit on them). Hoping very much you can do a part 2 for this video on that part of it. Thanks Hollie!
You can get a cheap little I5 computer with Windows 11 and enough memory and a solid state drive that runs rings around your 10 year old laptops for under $300 these days. Not up to gaming, but very capable of editing video in 4K format. There are some great deals on 24 inch monitors too.
But you forgot to include "links in the description below" as all RUclipsrs do. RUclips viewers are lazy and easily influenced - you show me stuff with affiliate links and I'll likely click and buy - or maybe that's just me. I do think you should include a link to your merch store in all your videos. But you not doing the typical RUclips plugs and things is also why I love your channel so much. Just you being you - and like the overloading guy with his old Jeep said - thank you for being you! You are the best and I love your videos!
I really don't see why anyone would want more tech when what you've got serves the purpose! Sure, it's nice to have all the bells and whistles, ... ! Wondering if you've ever watched "Itchy Boots"? If not, maybe you'd like to check out her vlogging. She shoots and edits everything herself too, on the road, including in rural Africa!
The filming and angles I can get. But, the editing software is where I am stumped. The editing software I've tried, makes me quit. What software are you using?
Ok, since I didn't get a response, I am going to respond myself. I love all you guys. My playlist is probably just like millions of others. But when you, Matt's off road recovery, Fab rats, chad's fab, etc are all not responding, tells us that you are all getting the editing done from the same people. So PLEASE, don't preach to us how easy it is and not show us acrually how easy the total processes is. DO NOT FORGET, that all of you are using a professional team to produce and edit your videos and that is what helps in success.
The outside edge of your tires are looking a bit worn... May want to think about spinning the tires around on the rims to get the better tread on the outside of the tires. :) But that all looks like way too much work to me. Good on you for providing great footage of your runs. I wish I lived around your area because I'd love to be a passenger on your runs.
Very interesting video, I believe the average person doesn’t realize all that goes into the making of a RUclips video especially for the off road and recovery people
I have a question I’m wanting to start in RUclips but I don’t know how to edit or that software to use any good recommendations I have the iPhones but I have a gamer custom labtop
I try and make good content. I'm new to this also. I also use my phone and a dash camera. I found with my tablet I can use an app that gives my tablet control over my phone where I can record remotely so I can see where I am in comparison to my Jeep. Thank you for the great content. I appreciate knowing that I'm not the only one that uses almost the same equipment. Have a great day and be safe.
What microphone do you use? I like that it clips to your hat. Is it just Bluetooth to your camera or phone? How about a collaboration sometime? I would love to bring the scrambler down and play at Sand Hollow!
I use Hollyland Lark Max wireless mics and the receiver just plugs into the phone/gopro/dji If you decide to come down this way, I would be happy to hit a trail, just email me MischiefMakerjku at gmail dot com ahead of your arrival and I’ll let you know what’s possible. 😊
I'd say about 40% of my video content on KAR Off Road is from an iPhone, and it's increasing. My GoPros Hero 9 and Hero 10 Black... meh. They drive me nuts with the overheating and focus issues! I am interested in trying the DJI. Our drone is from DJI, but I don't get a chance to use it as much as I'd like. I do like the Wolfbox I have in Penny a LOT, but we put one in Blue, and I might stop using it's content. It keeps lowering the final resolution of my videos. What I need to do is upgrade from iMovie to Final Cut, but that hasn't happened yet. It needs to.
Just like with Jeeps, check your battery as the culprit for electrical gremlins! Failing battery will cause lots of troubles with no clues as to why. They get abused on the trails with heat, cold dirt.
What’s you recommendation on getting more folks to watch your content? I feel like I have decent content, I’m doing fun and interesting stuff but I just can’t seem to get very many views no matter what I do…….🤷🏻♂️
At least you have some spare time between 9:30 pm and 3:00 am in case you need to do something more important than just sleep. ;> Of course the other hurdle is hardware and software that will allow you to quickly edit, cleanup, color balance, stabilize, etc, etc the video and compile it for RUclips. I know what I go through cleaning up Old Film and VHS Tape as an Amateur and its not something that you can do in a few hours in the morning to produce even 30 minutes of output that has any polish/finesse to it. So how do you do it? Perhaps in your "Spare Time" you could give a Birds Eye View of what the Post Processing and Publishing is like? Best!
Gotta get that million dollars of camera equipment before you can start a youtube channel Hollie, everyone knows that! No j/k, go make it happen with whatever you've got!
Matt, you've been another huge inspiration to me. We wheel with the Tennessee Ridge Monkeys and come to Windrock often. Hope to meet you someday.
🤘 trying, lol, if not to just share good times with friends who grew up an moved off 😅
@@LawlessOffroadAdventuresthe best channels always start off that way!
Wow! Presenter, videographer and editor. Holly, you are simply the best.
Holly.. Big thanks for putting this one out! Thanks to all the Fav youtubers for their part! Really informative and entertaining.
There was an old saying among emergency vehicle trainers: "Drive or shoot; don't try to do both!" Whole new meaning to rise and grind!
Thank you Hollie!! I've had a channel for years and done nothing with because I didn't think my footage and equipment was good enough. But you're absolutely right! What's the worst that could happen?? You are an inspiration to me and my wife. Hope to get to meet you some day. Love you doll!!
I am the same. Plus coming up with content
Interesting video! Makes you win my vote again today, and every day!

Holly... you are the best. Really enjoy your content. We want to see more of Walter😊
Great advice!
Grab your potato and start making videos.
Get a slightly better potato later on if you want.
Exactly! 🤣
Great video Hollie. My wife is a YT creator and retired from her nursing job last August. It is amazing the amount of work that goes into creating YT content. She just recently got monetized and that has given her additional motivation to do more. Her content is mostly done in her workshop with an iPad and her phone.
Hollie I love this episode 😊 all of you are amazing creating these amazing content on those cameras
This is such a great video and loved the photobombs in the middle. I'd also even add that a great thing to have is a good internet connection if you're uploading videos.
Thanks for this!
Great video, thank you for sharing! This totally helps me to stop worrying about my lack of hi-tech equipment & giving it try as a solo creator
Glad it was helpful. Improvements in your audio and visual storytelling will happen over time. Just start creating content, sharing your stories and - most importantly - stay consistent. I can’t wait to watch your channel grow!
As someone who has been farming around with youtube. Thank you for this! Helps to see different ideas
All is well with your videos and your eyes are absolutely beautiful !

Thanks for the peak behind the scenes! I love watching the sausage being made. What editing software / platform do you use?
16:36 - 17:30: Great sequence -and nicely shot!
Always glad to see you, Ms. holly. How's your back doing?
Good I hope
Ok Hollie, it's done!! MOXIE Offroad is up and running thanks to you and this video. Thank you so much for all you do for the offroad community.
Now this was an awesome video. So informative. Thank you for doing this.
I don’t edit and publish my videos, which makes life much simpler . GoPro firmware updates usually renews them. Could be sand too.
Holly, wow I enjoyed your videos before now I appreciate them even more. I don’t rock climb but love riding with you
When I posted videos on RUclips, years ago. I used a Flip video. Good quality vids, but I wasn't getting paid for them. Greetings from N orth Texas. Thank you so much for this video. You have inspired me
You got a good workout Holly making this video. And it's nothing compared to what you do for a big event. I'm Shure you don't feel perfect but you still rock.
Hey Hollie, Rob from Cali, jeeped with you and yolo news years. I had the green jeep. Just wanted to say hi. Love you videos.
We think it's so cool that we were apart of the first-ish full-time weekend at Aetna and AOP. FYI we follow all those other folks, except for one, because of your channel. Keep it up. We'll be in S UT the middle/end of Oct and hope to wheel w you again at your home park.
Thanks for the Tutorial! Casey did a similar episode but he went on to explain how youtube works. Thanks again
Thanks for sharing with us, how you film a video, and what you film with.
😎👍 Thanks.

Love the glimpse at how the videos are made! I just started a RUclips channel and getting the footy can be so hard!😂 You're doing a great job Hollie!
You’re just amazing amazingly amazing!!! Thank you for your hard work and sharing it all with us.
Hollie, seeing you do a lot of solo camera stuff, check out the Soloshot 3+ Robotic Cameraman 👍

Great idea for a vid! Would love to know what editor you all use
Keep up the great work Hollie! love your channel.
Great video. That's a lot of work.
❤keep up the great work ❤❤❤ watching 👀you I'm amazed how you can build such a cool 😎 4×4 wheel and so glad your back is going well ❤❤❤❤
Ouch. 0300 wake up time. That is rough but we love you for it Hollie, keep up the awesome content ❤❤❤
What about your microphone system. What are you using and what do you record to your iPhone or another device
Thanks Holly this was very helpful, been thinking about starting a channel soon
OK Hollie.... This is AWESOME!!!
I'm curious, how long did it take to film that little bit of trail From leaving the trailer and back.
Thanks for a great video with info for beginners!! What editing software do you use? Very interested in the part!!
I use iMovie but it is time to switch to Final Cut pro
I have two questions. First being what editing software do you use. Second is why do you choose to use your phone versus action camera for the shots that you setup outside of the vehicle? I would be more concerned with running over or weather damaging my phone than an action camera.

As per edit time, midnight or 1am, as you yave responded to my comments about those times.... we have actually had conversations during those times. 😊😊😊😊😊

Same here!
For me, getting the footage has always been the easy part. How do you find an inexpensive, easy to use, editor and actually do the editing part? What do you use for your wireless mic and editing software?
Thanks for the Behind the Scenes View of how you Film
Great work Hollie!
Just recently started an off-road channel and all I have been using is my iPhone but still need a good mic, any recommendations?
How did you pick your channel name i am struggling with that i am hoping to film some RUclips videos to try and support my wheeling lol
It was just the name of my Jeep, but as my channel has grown, that has not necessarily served me well.
Where do you get the music for your videos?

If not, maybe you'd like to check out her vlogging. She shoots and edits everything herself too, on the road, including in rural Africa!
The filming and angles I can get. But, the editing software is where I am stumped. The editing software I've tried, makes me quit. What software are you using?
Ok, since I didn't get a response, I am going to respond myself.

Very interesting video, I believe the average person doesn’t realize all that goes into the making of a RUclips video especially for the off road and recovery people
Nice to go out and off-road to relax 😎
Thanks for the great content!
I have a question I’m wanting to start in RUclips but I don’t know how to edit or that software to use any good recommendations I have the iPhones but I have a gamer custom labtop
I just use iMovie because it comes with my MacBook, but everyone keeps saying I should switch to Final Cut pro
How do you put it all together to make a video
Great job. Thank you 😊
No RUclips channel, but my iPhone is so much easier than my GoPro. The quality has become amazing, and I know my iPhone is not going to fail
That was interesting! Thanks.
The pocket 3 is great, so stable and yes, it will track. A DJI Action/Go pro and a pocket 3 is really all you need, just get external mics!
What microphone do you use? I like that it clips to your hat. Is it just Bluetooth to your camera or phone?
How about a collaboration sometime? I would love to bring the scrambler down and play at Sand Hollow!
I use Hollyland Lark Max wireless mics and the receiver just plugs into the phone/gopro/dji
If you decide to come down this way, I would be happy to hit a trail, just email me MischiefMakerjku at gmail dot com ahead of your arrival and I’ll let you know what’s possible. 😊
@@MischiefMakerTV Thank you! When we plan a trip, I will shoot you an email to see if you have time.
great as always great information
I need to go back and see again what remote mic you are using. I'm hoping to find a 3 or 4 mic setup, but I admit I haven't looked yet.
I also need to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 😒. Been lazy on that for sure. I use a Hollyland Lark Max Wireless Mic setup
@@MischiefMakerTV Thank you!
Is Mischief Maker not road legal anymore?
Holly! excellent video!
Just like with Jeeps, check your battery as the culprit for electrical gremlins! Failing battery will cause lots of troubles with no clues as to why. They get abused on the trails with heat, cold dirt.
You referred to good audio, what kind of mics do you use with iphone or camera?
I use the Hollyland Lark Max
@@MischiefMakerTV awesome
They spelled it wrong. Hollieland ...
What’s you recommendation on getting more folks to watch your content? I feel like I have decent content, I’m doing fun and interesting stuff but I just can’t seem to get very many views no matter what I do…….🤷🏻♂️
I would have collapsed after your first climb to place the camera.
I do just about all of mine with my Google Pixel 7
At least you have some spare time between 9:30 pm and 3:00 am in case you need to do something more important than just sleep. ;>
Of course the other hurdle is hardware and software that will allow you to quickly edit, cleanup, color balance, stabilize, etc, etc the video and compile it for RUclips.
Best!
