I won’t say the exact percentage, but for sure at least 30% are purchased online. there are reliable stores where they will not bring something bad. for example "vprok" but it is relatively expensive. I personally use "sbermarket"

This store only opened in the last month, it's their 3 stores in Moscow. They seem to access to the stock, no matter where there importing it in from. Russell.

Hey Russ,a suggestion my friend.. If you can do shorts like 2 to 3 minutes so we can share it with ppl and make them see the real life in Russia opposed to what is being told in MSM... Usually long videos puts ppl off.. So something like a short clip would have big impacts on sharing and viewing and would appeal to wider audience... Keep the good work bro 👍

COSTCO (in US) and METRO (in Europe) require membership fees in order to let you visit/access their outlets. MAYAK warehouses let you walk in, set no pre-conditions, and offer no in-store elevator music or fancy packaging. As for the quality, heck, it is everywhere the same. 🔔

This store reminds me of Gemco and White Front stores from the 1960s and 1970s. We didn't have much in the way of imports back then in the US either.

This store, like all of his videos, have a few to no people in the store, with 2 or 3 cheap items in their carts.
These "fridge rooms" in such stores are awesome in summer when there's helluva heat outside. )

wow 😲 when you panned the camera down the aisle I was like - omg - that's way to long for me to even bother. I live in a lovely little town with a small independent grocery store, where they all know your name and pack your groceries and even drop them off at your home. I honestly don't understand the appeal of large shops. I enjoy watching you going through these shops and seeing the differences in the prices compared to Australia. But I have no desire to go out of my way to shop in one of these huge shops. My niece loves shopping at Costco - God only knows why. I even resort to buying any large items online to avoid these shops. We lost absolutely everything in the devastating floods that hit Northern NSW in February and only got out with our lives by swimming. Pretty scary stuff. Anyhow, I've bought nearly all our replacement furniture, clothing, kitchenware, entertainment unit, and electrical appliances including a really cool fridge online. I'd never done this kind of buying before, but it sure as hell beats going out, trying to find a park, and hoping they have it in stock physical shopping here in Australia. I have noticed you have a lot more parking and ease of shopping, and by the looks of it, unless you're driving miles, you have a lot more shops in your area. One tip - don't come home. I think you've found the perfect place to live.
Moscow and suburbs population is nearly 13 million. It is bigger than the population of a number of European countries. I guess having small shops will not work there.

@@Aussie_Truth btw, that was a small one in the video. Its not even counted as "large" for us. Im at least have a Metro and Lenta (same size hypermarkets) in 10 minutes walk, and they are big :)
I think it all goes down to a soviet city planning. Since most of the people in cities live in a densly packed appartment complexes, one such supermarket can serve up to a thousand peoples or even more. So bigger stores with wider selection is a natural choice.

This is about how many people are in our PriceSmart / Cosco in the AM. Then it's PACKED on the weekends and late afternoons. People work. That's why I like shopping early, before people crawl out and it gets packed. 10 am is about when most stock gets off the truck around here.
The reason i don't like going to supermarkets on the weekend here. This store will get busier as more people know about it. Russell.

What a cool place to visit, I have seen a video about a Mayak supermarket but smaller in Siberia. I think I would be in supermarket heaven visiting a place like that. Thank you Russell for taking the time to film this video for us, you're a star. It's sad there's only a few in Moscow and we would need a car to carry all of those things, so living in the area would be better. Australia really needs to catch on...

Надо отметить, что в России, на все товары, указывается конечная цена продукта со всеми налогами и на кассе, никаких дополнительных начислений на цену, не делается.

Compared to UK those prices are considerably cheaper. As an example I recently bought butter at Asda 500gm for £3.95 whereas the 1Kg butter on this video (at 12.29) costs £3.44 at current exchange rates which is more than half price compared to UK.
maybe what you are told bad things about russia is actually thriving in the UK? you can consider it a joke ... or maybe it's true. but to be honest, there is a different principle here: 1) demand sets the price, 2) the goods are produced domestically or imported, which affects the price, 3) manufacturability and scale of production, 4) the cost of taxes and payment to workers employed in production, 5) the status of the country in the economic rating, if the UK wanted investments, it even included the shadow income of the mafia in the list of state income, and this indirectly leads to an increase in prices for goods, as in an elite area the same products are sold several times more expensive.

Even in our Murmansk region we have a bunch of goods from the "Unfriendly countries of the European Union". As they say in words, they are great fellows, but in fact the money does not smell like anything. And Coca-Cola is also supplied here from 2-3 Baltic countries. But as the person above wrote, I would agree with his opinion that without it, we would be better off and our society. I think our analogues are even safer in this regard of the impact on health, although I’m not sure and the original taste is lost, of course. I do agree with you that water and juice taste much better than all the highly sugared muck. But it is not only the coca cola A russian brand (or any other brand ) will have the exact same taste as coca cola and it will be just as bad concerning what is in it. And lets be honest why buy the expensive coca cola if a cheaper brand just tastes the same

Speak for yourself about your preferences. Younger generation drinks soda all the time. And I personally don't drink much water or juice. As a person of culture I drink tea all the time, black, real tea leaves, not these abominable tea bags and with sugar.

In Yekaterinburg, you can buy genuine Coca-Cola produced in Kazakhstan. Volume 0.5 liters, 1 liter and 2 liters.

В этих магазинах нормальные напитки, посуда, моющие средства, предметы для кухни и т.д. А колбасы, сыры, сладкая вата хрень полная.

in 2019 I was renovating a bank branch. The builder had a rusty bolt. There was a lot of rust. He told me to go to the store and buy Coca Cola. I bought it and gave it to him and he put the screw in the bowl and poured coca cola on it. After 5 hours, the screw was rust-free. The rust is gone.

This isn't a recent build - the building (a seven-level garage) was commissioned in 2018. The shell was already there in 2015 (thank you yandex). But the Mayak sign is, indeed, a fairly recent addition (it wasn't there in 2021).

@@alisonmckinney3181 More like the failed Mere stores in the UK. Their pilot store was opened in Preston by the owners of Mayak and Svetofor in 2021, but closed in March 2022. They don't have much future in Russia, either (although for different reasons).

That's how it should be - sell what people want. No silly sanctions. The self-proclaimed rulers of the universe must let the citizens do what they want to do if it isn't banned by the law and they should go away and never come back. But I am afraid that many of them are so afraid of it, because they cannot do what others whom they rule do. To work. And they know it. Amazing video, also very informative.
I love shops like this one, for the prices of course, I don't really care about service or interior design, the more practical it is the better. :)
But hypermarkets are cool too, when you need stuff that's hard to find in smaller shops.

в том районе массовые застройки загородных домов.(дачи.).люди узнают про этот магазин-скупят все.удобно-едешь из города на дачу-по дороге забил багажник всем что нужно.я вот отметил что древесный уголь для мангала недорогой-50 руб за килограмм.везде продают от 70 рублей за килограмм.иногда и по 100 руб)))чай недорогой.напитки недорого.жена успела цены посмотреть))у нас загородный дом в том направлении.обязательно заедем в этот магазин-небольшой крюк ..спасибо Рассел..кстати это новый московский район за мкад..даже метро провели уже..тихий спокойный район в стороне от всего..

Да. Я обычно на неделю заказываю продукты в "Утконосе". Удобно - не торопясь выбираешь, все бесплатно привезут в удобное для тебя время.

actually coca cola and pepsi are still produced in russua but now they have different brand names - dobry cola and Evervess. more over here is a couple of local brens which produces

Так что кока-кола в РФ не производится даже под другим брендом. Может они только линию используют (или вообще сдают в аренду). А т.к. концентрат другого производителя, то чтобы не было ущерба бренду, сделали новую торговую марку.
Черноголовская кола больше похожа на пепси. И мне она показалась не такой сладкой.

Давно затариваюсь в этом магазине в Питере. Цены намного ниже чем в супермаркетах за одинаковый товар. К примеру кофе в зёрнах Эгоист Трюфель 250 г. у них на 200 рублей дешевле чем в Ленте.
Вот потому оно у нас в Твери в маяке и пропало. Сначало было в продаже потом только чай))

@@TravellingwithRussell I went there to check it out in September, it's not as good as this one, though it's only a short walk from the subway... It was definitely busier. For the purposes of your videos, the one near Lokomotive/Cherkizovskaya may be good, as there's also a small Svetofor in the building next door, and Mayak itself is in a "mall" / shopping center "Novocherkizovskiy" and although it's 30% empty it still may be of interest to include briefly in the video, and also there's new Vostochniy rail terminal nearby... so you could kill up to four birds with one stone 😊
No, food never was under sanctions, just one company closed contracts with manufacturers, and someone without RF passport just bought cola in Poland and imported.

I can't believe it, wow, I just made my first visit to this particular store this past Monday, what a coincidence, and I used public transportation as well, and it took me about 1.5 hrs to get there, but it was worth it. From what I know, it's the same store that moved to this location from Lefortovo (a famous district in south-east Moscow) where I used to go shopping for quite a few items before they closed in August and moved to the outskirts of Moscow. It was also interesting for me to see all the new subway/metro stations that recently opened in this part of Moscow east of MKAD (Moscow loop/ring road)...

Да! is, I think, of a German origin - they keep placing price labels/tags above the shelves with the goods instead of beneath the shelves the way it is done in most other supermarkets in Russia... Da! have been opening quite a few new locations recently, slowly but steadily .... 🙂

Так уж получилось, что магазины подобного формата находятся в пешей доступности, вокруг моего дома. Имею в виду магазины Маяк, Светофор, Находка, ПравДа, в которых цены порой на один и тот же товар доходит до 2-х кратной разницы. Уже давно не хожу в более распространенные сети магазинов с более высокими ценами, т.к 90% своих потребностей в продуктах полностью реализую в дисконт-магазинах по типу магазин-склад. Товары те же, цены ниже - смысл тратить?
И это весьма разумно! Молодцы

Я сам не так часто хожу в магазин, чаще в магнит у дома (5 минут пешком), либо заказываю из него же доставку. Так что можно еще снять видео про доставку, она есть у многих магазинов, либо своя, либо через сервисы яндекса/деливери
Где пропаганда то? Цены выросли в несколько раз но Рассел об этом к сожалению не рассказывает ибо он просто путешественник. Если бы всё конструктивно и по факту давно бы всё стало ясно.

The local grocery chain that I primarily shop at has different-sized stores. I've come to prefer shopping at the smaller store, as it takes me less time to get through it. It seems they have the same products, but maybe just not as many on the shelves. Also, I only shop for myself so I don't purchase that much.

Это связано с тем, что в их странах нет хороших магазов, - только лавка при заправке или частные лотки и минимаркеты... И то ехать надо за три-девять земель и закупаться оптом, хотя тебе нужны только яйца или картошка...

Я родился и живу в Москве. И уже давно перестал ходить по магазинам, потому что есть удобные приложения для мобильного, где ты выбираешь любой магазин продуктов, одежды, электроники или других товаров и просто заказываешь их к себе с доставкой. Часто в приложении цены дешевле, а доставка бесплатная. Так что, я не вижу смысла ходить по магазинам вообще! Ты клевый удачи тебе с каналом!)

Согласен. В этих магазинах нормальная одежда, посуда, разные подставки, предметы для кухни, моющие средства и т.д.
