- Centennial Park is by far and away the most popular cycling destination in Sydney. It caters to all skill levels and you will find many groups incoporating it as part of their weekly rides. Centennial Park is about 5km out of Sydney CBD and is perfect for that before work ride or training. In this video I go through how to get to Centennial Park from the city, what you can expect on the loop as well as some cafe recommendations in the local area.

I visited Sydney for the first time last year and seeing this video makes me so emotional. Just one or THE most beautiful place/city on this planet.
The People, the nature and the food, everything ist just incredible.
I have been adding to my variations when riding around Centennial by slipping out of the Park at Lang road and riding up to ANZAC pde and following the shared pathway around the outside perimeter of the park. Also, by slipping into the roads that go through the centre of the park you can see more of the lakes and woods. It was when I started doing this that I remembered that a part of cycling involves the word Tour.
I have enjoyed every video that you have given 😊
I rate this video 10 out of 10, especially the morning sceneries from your intro. Breath taking! And the details of different routes combine with Strava is phenomenal!
Thanks mate! Much appreciated
I love Centenial park, truly one of the best city park I've seen around the world
I mean people give grief about doing boring laps or whaever, but it really is a great place to ride, almost 4kms is lot longer than it seems, the road surface is amazing, there's always something going on - people to look at etc. I wonder what other major cities would have such a great place to ride 10mins from the CBD.
Completely agree. And the fact you can also take your gravel/MTB as well is great
Moved from Sydney (grew up in Paddington) to Canberra many years ago. As much I love riding Centennial Park (as I grew up there), Canberra frankly leaves Sydney for dead in terms of riding - lots of dedicated cycle ways, some classic climbs right next to the CBD (Black Mtn & Mt Ainslie - both 240m elevation), 4 MTB areas within 10km of city that you can loop together with 90% dirt between them, etc. 10 minutes from CBD in most directions and you're in the countryside riding some epic routes.
Yea Canberra is really good for riding. I was there last year and very impressed by the bike lanes.
If you ever have the opportunity Stanley Park loop in Vancouver is magical in the summer. Sunsets over the mountains and ocean on a 9km seaside loop next to downtown.
I used to cycle around Centennial Park Sunday mornings. Every 5 laps or so I would exit the park and get onto Clovelly Rd and go all the way down to the car park outside the Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club.
The M7 cycleway is good too if you live in the south west of Sydney.
Yep! Sure is. I have made a video guide on that route too!
I cycle in the CBD and at Centennial as well. Great video. Although you did miss a cafe on CP's northside - CH Pantry. Lavie & Belle is my go-to on the way to work though! Great video.
It was a shame to see you not using the cycle lane on King St. I know we can ride on the road - and it's great to do so when they're empty in the early mornings, but it's great to use the facilities that were built for cyclists. Joining the cycle lane on College St by running a red light and crossing the wrong side of the road isn't a great look.
Riding like that just gives the anti-cyclists people something to whine about. Not that they ever stop whining anyway, but why give them more ammo?
I'm watching this video while it's an icy -3 here Liverpool, England 🏴
Haha soon I’ll be envious of your weather when it’s full blown summer here. Probably above 35 degrees
The Cats Ears used to be part of a race circuit. Start / finish opposite Cafe. Cats Ears, right at bottom of hill back onto main circuit (wrong way). Australian Road Race last held there about 1984. State Champs & then Sydney Metro race 100km
They should bring that back, sounds epic
@@joshkwan epic indeed
I watched a race there once, maybe early 2000s. It was brutal, they went uphill past the Parkes statue full gas, half the field were dropped before the first corner up at the playground.
The morning light footage looked incredible 😊 great vid, gotta try out those pastry recommendations 🎉
Thanks mate! The sunlight after a foggy morning is just perfect 🤙🏻
thx for sharing. I will move to sydney soon🎉
Love these videos I should do them on the Gold Coast, just got a Trek Emonda SL 6 AXS today :)
Awesome! Hope you enjoy the bike
Agree a 10 out of 10 video. Just whole different cycling vibe to anything you'd find in Melbourne, the so called "Garden State", which sadly is just in a "state" these days and a sad one at that. Great work thanks
Thank mate, appreciate it.
I haven’t ridden in Melbourne but Id love to visit sometime.
@@joshkwanit’s not that bad as he makes it out to be. Still a good place to ride.
Go to Albert park and ride the F1 track
Just found your channel, pop over to Oz a few times a year from NZ and have a bike permanently in Wollongong. Really enjoying checking out rides in the area, cheers 🍻
I hit the MS Gong ride yearly or bi annually, its a great ride.
BTW , subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing! Appreciate it.
Sydney to gong is an epic ride. Super scenic and great route.
Great job! keep 'em coming.
Thanks Sam!
Use the tram path. There's cycling paths basically the whole way
Loved this one. Have just got to Sydney and Centennial is already important for me. Great cafe reccs. I end up riding on the road and ignoring the cycle-lanes, because they put you out on the left when you need to turn right, and vice versa. Too dangerous, too inconvenient.
Thanks mate! I agree about the cycle lanes. If you’re willing to wait at all the traffic lights for the signal then it’s okay…but no one is that patient.
We've got Kings Park over here in the west, but there's not one flat bit of road. Love your content.
Thanks mate!
Centennial is easy, try parra park that is a real slog on the uphill section.
I could easily do 10 laps of centennial but parra barely 5
I do need to make my way out to parramatta park! Hopefully I can find some time during the holidays
Shits all over Melbourne's equivalent of Albert Park :-( Like...shiiiiiiits all over it. I think it's the trees! It actually feels like a park and not a racetrack.
Yea cannot complain, also a few little side tracks and off roads which provide a bit of variety.
Swearing is sooooo cooooool
@@Alex-jc1dt you think shit is swearing? lol Bro, go back and hang out with the nuns lol Offended by the word shit. Well...shit!
Didn't mention the 30kmh speed limit (cough). Rangers will pull over cyclists going over the limit so something to watch out for. My strategy for avoiding being caught is to cruise just over 30kmh on the main loop and then do VO2 efforts on the cats ears every loop, alternating between going up the left and right sides, each time. You can then get a sort of over/under pattern going.
Tbh I have done hundreds and hundreds of laps there and never been pulled over. But I do know they drive around advertising.the 30kph limit
Left lane is not an exclusive cycling lane at all. It’s a shared pedestrian/bike lane.
It ain’t for walking
You sometimes get inline skaters or x-country roller skiers, but never walkers, they go on the footpath that runs inner-concentric to the vehicle roadway.
Just want to make sure, is it allowed to ride on the dirt trails in Centennial Park? I was warned last month with a gravel bike...
A while back it said you are allowed to ride as long as not on the grass or within protected areas.
But maybe the rules have changed.
Looks great. Wish melbourne had something like that. Albert park is boring AF.
Melbourne has lots of nice flat routes near the coast which I need to try out!
Go outside of the CBD man. Centennial park stands no chance as compared to the route from parramatta park to olympic park and beyond to bicentennial park.
Check out some of my other video guides. They’re all outside the CBD!
best cafe in the area is Wolf
Thanks for the suggestion :)
lol
Content has gone downhill since you left. The people need their main side character
@@joshkwan hahaahha
Straight through a red light...Typical cyclist.
P.S...The speed limit in Centennial Park is 30 km/h!Doing an AVG of 34-35 km/h is SPEEDING.Follow the road rules...Typical cyclist.
