Good stuff Josh. LCNP is in my local area & a favorite spot for a spin. I'll add a couple items to your list, On a hot summers day it's pretty good as it's well shaded by all the trees. Also as you mentioned in the colder months it can be really cold, a general rule of thumb is it's always a few degrees (3 to 5 deg) lower than up in the surrounding suburbs of North Ryde or Macquarie. If it's a windy day you can get quite a lot stick debris but otherwise it's generally a pretty clean road as it gets swept regularly by National Parks. You can also extend the route for each lap a little as well, at the eastern end cross the weir and follow the park road past the national parks building/coffee shop, it goes over a little rise and is approx 1km to the turn point at the end of the road. Plus you can add that nasty little hill up Lane Cove depot rd.(or even tack in a loop around the suburban streets at the top of that hill). It can get a bit busy on a warm sunny Sunday from around midday onwards with all the picnic/bbq people, so if riding in that scenario just ride accordingly (most will be at the Eastern end though). The coffee shop in the park is open until 4pm, good for a late afternoon coffee ride. A couple other good local coffee shops in North Ryde are Tilt on Blenheim Rd & Flame Cafe on Cox's rd. There can be some good local fauna spotting, Wallaby's, Possums, Echidna's, families of Ducks, Water Dragon's even came across a big Python enjoying the sun by the side of the road. Always plenty of Cockatoo's & the Scrub Turkey's can be a bit of a menace when on the road.
Lots of useful tips here - im glad i saw this video. I have a tip to offer in return: If you are concerned about crashes, try keeping your hands on the bars so you can brake and steer. It will help a lot when the next bush turkey crosses the road in front of you.
Just did my first ride in LCNP after watching this video. Had a near miss with a bush turkey within the first few minutes, which was a good reminder to watch out for the wildlife. Thanks for all the tips, especially the routes for getting there!
Josh I checked out Veneziano in Surry Hills this morning after our ride on your recommendation, it was excellent! Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Another great video Josh. Keep up the great work. Food for thought; do a video on the Crosslands Reserve/Somerville Rd climb at Galston. I think it is Sydney’s truely best kept secret climb. It’s on the eastern side of Galston Gorge; and takes you to the bottom of the valley, but with no hairpin turns.
Hitta! I’ve been so nervous to get to LCNP not wanting to die on Delhi Rd but through the business park and entering half way up makes it way safer 🎉🎉 It might be time to let the world in on DPL 😂
Fantastic video, I'll be Sydney before driving up to QLD for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (161km over 3 days). Will try your route on my carbon hardtail MTB 🤟🚴
Used to be part of my commute to MacPark from Chatty! Great ride in the early mornings and late afternoons and not having to contend with the traffic on Delhi/Fullers Road
There's also some good gravel trails all over the park. I once rode a trail west of Turramurra during a wet day and inadvertently took home a leech with me. I thought my shoe was starting to give me me a blister but it was just a leech bite.
Sorry mate they are not, also no bikes allowed off road within this part of the park. You are in luck though, the fire trail just to the north ofthis area is great for gravel riding, albiet lots of steep climbs. Jump onto the Gloucester Fire Trail from Wallalong Crescent and head north along the firre trail to Pennant Hills

Mate what a wealth of knowledge! Thats for sharing.
Good to see another cyclist appreciate how fantastic LCNP is!

Hi josh I'm the old guy at 7:51 riding towards you - LCNP is a hidden gem, I thank God for it every day.
Awesome stuff, thanks for saying hi! Always good to see another happy cyclist out and about

That’s a good point, those bush turkeys are pesky! Glad the video was useful for you, comments like this inspire me to keep making content :)

Awesome stuff mate, a comprehensive guide for LCNP, happy to ride there after watching your video 👍
I highly recommend it. We shall go one day and grab a coffee after
Really enjoy your Videos Josh. Keep it up!
Thank you mate!

That’s a great idea, also a bit embarrassing but I’ve never done Somerville before.
Gday Josh, this video was awesome. IM THE AUSSIE LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES, BUT FROM ST IVES. Love it mate, very jealous bud
That’s awesome, love that I could give you a little snippet of home
Nice to see some more of the scenery around Sydney
Where to next?
@@joshkwan How about out west? The Northern Rd, Luddenham, Mulgoa etc?
Hitta! I’ve been so nervous to get to LCNP not wanting to die on Delhi Rd but through the business park and entering half way up makes it way safer 🎉🎉 It might be time to let the world in on DPL 😂
Yea bro! You gotta check it out, I think you’ll love it. Perfect little cycling route up north.
DPL is our little secret ;)

Bit of serenity off the main roads.
Great video Josh, it is a bit of a mini Bobbo
LCNP for the win! Go early and you will be a very happy cyclist by the end of your ride👍👍
For sure, best training ground in Sydney, and way better than an indoor trainer 😅
💯

That’s a great point, I’ve ridden the gravel trails to the north around Pennant hills. With a few water crossings it’s easy to pick up leeches haha
thanks mate. i have saved your strata route. looking forward to dryer weather.
Awesome to hear! Hope you enjoy
Thanks for the tip on the business park vs going on Delhi road
there's something about those solo rainy sessions that just hits right
Doesn’t beat running in the rain though. Love my speed buff
Great tips 👍
Im over from NZ , can you put on some sunshine for me please, it has been hosing down for days 😅😁
I’ll trade you some sunshine for some of the beautiful mountains you have in NZ
Josh are the walking tracks suitable for a gravel bike?

Great place to see some roller bladers 🙃
Or two Asian dudes during Covid doing laps everyday 🥲
Another one for the “one day” list haha the rain has been so depressingly persistent lately
I reckon you’ll love it. In the meantime you can watch my videos to remember what it’s like to ride outdoors :)
@@joshkwan and the chop sop ones for some thrills 🤞🏻
This counts as rule #9 right? Well done taking advantage of the break in this awful weather. I haven't done LCNP, will have to check it out.
You’ve got the check it out! It’s really great. (I don’t own shares in Lane Cove National Park) haha
Recommend Arthur’s bakehouse down Ryde Rd for some pretzels 😉
I will have to check that out!
There are also some eateries up at Lachlan square … if looking for lunch options
Any you recommend?
@@joshkwan nothing specifically but leaf cafe is ok if you want a quick bite
Cassius is closing 😥
Nooooo
how r u tracking ur total mileage on ur bikes?
You can easily do this on strava by allocating what bike you used for what activity
And it didn’t end up raining all day !
I know right 😖😖😖
