    thanks for sharing these great tips, was just thinking wouldnt the edge extension trick also eliminate the need to do the edge painting if you extend the edges far enough? Also do you have any tips for blending edge and core mattes such that the transition is smooth between the two mattes?

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  Год назад

      Thanks, glad you liked them. If you push the edge extension so far it covers all the motion blur it would be way too strong on the rest of the subject. So you'd have to basically keymix one with and one without and then paint in the mask to reveal it which is essentially the same process as what I did anyway.
      As for blending them, the core matte shouldn't really need blending in. Both alphas should have a value of one and you should erode it to the point where it doesn't go over the edge anywhere. You could try blurring it or using an erode with a mask so it only erodes soke areas for more control. But generally they should go together pretty easily

    That edge painting tip is so useful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience! Quick question for you, from your experience, what's your opinion on green tracking markers on a green screen? I heard recently that that's the way to go, and after dealing with some footage with a green screen with yellow tracking markers, I'm definitely sick of the way that that combination screws with hair. Any strong opinions either way?

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah it's a super handy tip.
      As for the markers, I think it depends on the shot. I mostly see red markers on screens just due to contrast. I think if the camera isn't moving much then green markers are probably quite helpful as they're less of a nightmare when passing behind hair etc. But if the camera moves fast or there's camera shake, green markers will get lost in motion blur very quickly. So it depends!

      @amesmedia4447 Год назад +1

      @@AlfieVaughan I didn't even consider motion blur. That's great to know, thank you so much!

      Edge extensions don't really work on hair as it's so fine. I usually just put a constant that's the colour of the hair though the alpha and blend it in

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not really as far as I'm aware. Just a different way to get the same result. I'm sure when I was learning I saw a tutorial of someone stacking them so I've always just done that

    • @suzelise
      @suzelise 5 месяцев назад

      @AlfieVaughan Ah ok, thanks! Just another question, and I think you sort of answered someone else but I didn't quite understand; how would you clean up the grey around the hair and glasses after using colouredge/edgeextend? And how would keep or add the reflective quality of the glasses? Thanks again!

    • @AlfieVaughan
      @AlfieVaughan  5 месяцев назад +1

      @suzelise the hair can be tricky. It would probably be a case of eroding it slightly and merging a hair coloured constant into the plate using the alpha so it maintains the hair outline of the key. Then you can mix that in on the edges to remove the grey edge.
      For the glasses, I'd probably roto the bit that couldn't be keyed and just despill it so the green highlights became white
