How do you draw out the design? Stencil or you’re that good of an Artist? Just ordered a Kibler Colonial kit and the carving will be the most challenging skill. Love your work !!

Mostly I do a lot of drawing just for training and to see wich pattern will fit the overall design and than I do the drawing free hand. To have a nice pattern that fit the timeframe, I check some books and the internet and and look for the main characteristics of the design..... for example the design of a christian springs is much different from a germanic jäger or a Isaak Haines. ,
Good luck for your project and do some carving training before you start at the gun than the result will be much better.

That came out very well, a very unusual treatment of the "wiggle" that goes down to the toe of the stock, that looks very nice, I have not seen that wiggle done like that before, it makes the curves stand out much better, for the background flatting, I made up a small cranked chisel about 10mm wide, that allows for a much lower angle when flatting the area around the relief, much depends on how figured the stock blank is, I find it can split out easily on fancy grain areas. Well done!

The flow of the grain make some problems if i dont care in what direction i use the chisel. I checked pictures of original and rebuild guns and that cind of carving fit the shape of the gunstock best to my eyes. Thanks and stay tuned for more ;-)

He is willing to ship off the orginal stock to you to match up the contouring of the gun barrel and lock and trigger and gard mechanism please contact me back

@@kristafoster7190 I am sorry Krista. I still have a normal Job and this is a hobby to me. At the moment I am planing to go a litle more professional, but only repairs. To make a full custom stock is a lot of work. The shipping to germany will be realy expensiv. But let me give your husband a litle idea. dont use ebony. It is unbelivable expensiv and thou bigger the part is the price explodes. Better use black walnut. it is durable with a realy nice figure. There are alot of realy good gunmakers in US. And I am sure they will do a good job. But how about a nice project for him ? At at the end he has a unique gun and it is fitted perfect to him that he can be proud of.
      kind regards
      Roger

@@homemadehistory7537 i understand that your in Germany and ur a busy man and its your hobby that my husband wants to use ebony wood because i matches the theme of the orginal plastic black stock of the muzzleloader he has but he is willing to ship it off to you to work on it on your spare time he really likes your work in this video but he does have the 3 1/2 inch thick ebony blank of wood for you to work with to make the stock for him and he is willing to pay you and ship everything to you that you need he understands that theres alot of wood carving gun stock makers out here in the US but he has compared that the work they do is nothing like your wood carving second to none at all he just wants something unique and never been done before he dont like walnut because he wants the stock all naturally black wood to match the color of the barrel of the muzzleloader and give his gun to stand out from the crowd other people's muzzleloader in the world. I told him it be extremely expensive to ship it to you but he said he doesn't care how much it will cost to ship the stock and the 3 1/ inch ebony wood blank he just wants it done by you in your spare time Because he l9ves your work so very much it would mean alot to him and have his muzzleloader posted on you tube because theres not many people here in the US that take a Connecticut arms Bobcat muzzleloader and have a wooden stock made from ebony wood to match the original plastic ebony wood like looking stock he just wants a legit ebony wood to match the guns black barrel i hope you will except his business proposition for you to make his stock in your spare time

I have tried to find a V chisel like the one you use to trace the pattern I can’t find one does the one you use have a make and a model # or part number so I can get one just like it? I love your work you are truly Amazing and lot of God Given Talent My Friend.. please keep making Guns!!

The chisel is from the brand "Pfeil" from switzerland, but it should be available in US as well. It is a one millimeter V chissel with 60° angle and medium size. Maybe this could help you to find it. And for sure I will go on with gunmaking. It is very relaxing and so versatile in the art of crafts I need.
