  • windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation Windows 10
This is a real easy fix so you can install Windows without any error during the installation process. The easy way is to unplug any drives that your not installing windows onto and then try to install again, you will need to drive any partitions that you create during that installation process and the install should work this time.
This works on Windows 10, Windows 8 / 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2012.

READ if the video did NOT HELP you:
I used 3 different USB flash drives with 2 different versions of windows 10 Pro 64-bit and used 1 method as installing the older Win10 as Windows 8 installer from ISO. And on the 2 other drives I used the latest Windows 10 installation version available using the Windows 10 USB installer.
I had 2 different problems. One drive said I needed drivers before I could proceed with installation. The other one was the same as in this video. The problem you are having if the method in the video is not working for you, is that you have multiple partitions on your flash drive. For example, I had Memtest86 installed on the drive and formating the drive did not get rid of the extra partitions. I am currently trying to get this stick back to factory defaults.
The other problem I had with older windows 10 installer was using a USB 2.0 flash drive in a USB 3.0 port on the rear of the motherboard.
Switching the flash drive from the USB 3.0 rear panel port to a USB 2.0 front panel port finally let me through with the installation. It didn't even copy the files in the USB 3.0 port when telling me there's an error with missing drivers.

Gosh I can't believe that was it. I often unplug the other drives so Windows don't mess up, but this time I wanted it to recognize the other installations and set up the windows boot loader. It is a new SSD, so I was thinking it was either broken or incompatible with my old motherboard.
But now it's installing and I'm feeling silly for wasting hours and hours trying to make it install.
    Thanks man.

    1. I setup bios to default (Most probably it doesn't have any effect but that's what I did)

    Good Luck.

That didn’t work for me however I found another way first I would like to explain the situation I was in when doing this as idk what factors apply to getting it to work my way. 1. I had made a Windows 10 booted on my 16 gb usb. 2. When starting my laptop with it in it gave me the option to run the 64bit windows. 3 . When the new window came up asking me to choose which driver to use what you want to do is pick the the one labelled OS at the end and then format it after that select it again and then go through the process it should work

It' s 2020 and this is still a thing :D I think it is probably because Windows creates all the System and Recovery partitions only if they don't already exist. If they exist on the old drive then the installation does not create them on the new one and it just does not understand how to continue. Removing the old system partitions should probably also fix this issue, but if you do not want to delete anything then you just have to pull out the old drive or disable it :D

If you still get this with all drives unplugged, make sure your USB installer doesn't have an EFI partition. I created mine via macOS as I didn't have a second windows system to use. macOS created a blank 200MB EFI partition on the USB.
Looking at the installer logs this bug relates to when the installer attempts to build BCD boot records but gets confused which EFI partition to use, thus affecting "the next phase" of the installation.
GUID drives are pretty standard now so this is fairly shocking to see in 2022.
If you created your installer in macOS like me "diskutil eraseVolume free free disk#s#" did the trick where #=disk number and EFI partition number (likely 1) obtained via "diskutil list"
On Windows pressing Shift+F10 and typing "diskpart" I believe using "list disk", "select disk #", "list partition", "select partition #", "delete partition" on any unused EFI partitions aught to work. (Again replacing # for your case scenario) Then reboot and try again.
Make sure you know how to use the above commands as they're very destructive!!
    ✌🏻

You sir are a legend. I have several drives connected and by unplugging them all bar one it worked. I'd spent hours trying to figure this out and failed. Many thanks.

Do you mean just remove the external drive from power supply or actually unplug the drive from the computer itself

This won’t work if you have any m.2/nvme ssd’s installed into the motherboard. It’s not easy/convenient to open everything up, remove the video card and other covers to get to the m.2/nvme drives...

  • @ahmedshimi4401

Great video. ... 🤝👍👍👍.. I had this problem 3 times before with three different machines and I fix it by instaling windows in unlocated space as you did, actually win 10 with its problem remember me with the problem with win 98 and win me.

  • @HelLP2012
    @HelLP2012 2 года назад

So with m.2 you have to unscrew every m.2 SSD. Holy Moly, this is beyond crazy. :(

It’s common practice not to install windows with multiple drives installed. For may reasons, which include possible SATA driver installation before windows can see your particular drive. You didn’t say what type of drives you’re using, SSD/m.2 drives these will always become first or drive 0, unless you have a fairly new motherboard with the proper settings enabled to avoid this , it recommend actually . Also you didn’t specify if you’re using uefi boot mode. Which comes with its own list of do’s and don’t. Also you didn’t specify the size of your drive which also changes your choices. In short, it’s always best to install windows with the minimalist of devices installed to avoid complications.
Never ever give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt..
    New windows hardware needed.
    -------------------
    Boot drive
    Optical drive, if needed
Video card (if discrete) even if you have an onboard video card it’s best to include your card during windows install.. Replace drivers later.
All memory modules you plan on using.
    Keyboard - Hard wired
    Mouse - hard wired
That’s it, anything more and your asking for trouble.. Remember the KISS principle....

Calling people stupid is not the right way to put it. This is just a example what people will do when installing Windows with more than one drive on the system can run into this kind of problem. Yes you should install Windows with minimum hardware plugged in ie hard drives, but that don't help beginners that do this type of stuff and are looking for a solution. This is just a video showing them people a work around the issue.

  • @offlinegamer3714

It didn't work for me so,
    What i did is:
    1. Unplugged everything except the SSD i'm installing to
    2. Went on the "Select drive" page
    3. Formatted the main drive
    4. Deleted all of those small partitions
    5. (IF POSSIBLE) Extend the main drive to the maximum
    6. Turned my PC off
    7. Plugged in every drive like it should be(sata + power)
    8. Install Windows normally to the empty SSD

This has just happened to me? I've unplugged all my other 3 ssd's and three mechanical storage drives. I've only got my M.2 ssd the flash drive that has my windows 10 on and I also had another flash drive because I was hoping to use the " where do you want to store windows" in installation to do a complete format of the flash drive. So I was getting the same message as you, but bizarrely the other flash drive wasn't even showing.
For some reason when I've used that flash drive to put memtest86 to test my ram it's created partitions on the flash and using normal windows format or the disk management it's not letting me delete a Healthy (EFI System Partition)? It's only 99mb but I want to use all the storage on the flash but it's separating 51mb unallocated space and 7.06gb unallocated space.

Wbush Bush Pro N is an OS where literally just drive essentials are installed, meaning stuff like windows media player isn’t installed.

This didnt exacgly work for me. I am using a laptop and installing win on nvme.m2 ssd using a usb drive. Point to note is that i created my iso on a mac. So what solved the problem for me was creating an iso using rufus on a windows laptop. Maybe plugging out my hdd may have additionally helped.
