Thanks for doing this game! I've been hoping you would since watching your Quarry video. I felt sad for Josh, left to mentally fester in his grief but I also seem to recall that Sam and Chris had nothing to do with the prank on his sisters and Josh knew that. So including them in his horrible counter prank was a bit tragic. I guess the writers were giving us a couple of likeable characters to want to protect.
My favorite part about this particular game playthrough is that there were several character deaths they ended up experiencing purely *because* they were pretty much taking the logical, selfish, and pragmatic route we all know this channel loves so well. Poetic really.
I am laughing at that the fact that its BECAUSE Nerd Explains is playing this game like how he would a movie🤣🤣 (and not necessarily taking into account the butterfly effect of the choices made), that so many of them have died.
the reason i loved this game was the fact that the devs actively punished people for making the clear "correct" decisions in the horror situation. It's dumb to take all of the shortcuts but it's the only way to save Jess. Going out alone in multiple instances gives characters information that helps them out later on. The only time I can think of where the obvious choice is the right choice is with ashley/chris in chapter 8 with the noise of the wendigo in the trapdoor area.
This game was just SO GOOD. None of their other games have come close to this one IMO. I was especially disappointed in the Salem Witch trials game 😢 it was such a good idea but the ending was so bad it ruined the whole story and game
@@WhitneyDahlin I think their biggest mistake was leaving the slasher genre. It works because this kind of shlocky nonsense is exactly why people like them. I feel bad for Josh in all honesty. Denied proper help by Psychiatrists, Denied proper health by other Mental Health inspecting individuals. Left Spiraling into a disaster by everyone around him. In a game about choice, Josh gets NO choice. Josh is definitely a very sypathetic guy He went through hell, and, he had no idea of the Wendigo. Honestly, aside from the bit of the saw and dummy body, most of its pretty harmless (thinking you killed your friend with a jigsaw trap would definitely be some extreme PTSD) Scary as fuck of course. But, like he says, nobody was gonna get hurt. He was in more danger than any of them. He just punched, they, could easily have grabbed weapons, you can full smash him with a baseball bat as Sam (Yes IRL punching in the head is very dangerous, but choking and punching only knocks someone out for a few minutes at most, so its in movie/game logic in that regard) its definitely a fucked up thing to do. But he's also not mentally well, and that's the best way he, without any medication or even actual therapy, can think of to kind of make it right. Likely he's got some PTSD about it, as well as some level of Schizophrenia, Paranoia, and Hallucinations. And his end results, Is getting his head crushed by his sister, or becoming a Wendigo. Just get him proper therapy after his sisters died, and none of this would have happened.
Honestly, he's the only one here who absolutely DIDN'T deserve to die. Everyone else pretty much brought it on themselves, but he was an already unwell guy who was driven over the edge by grief and guilt because these psychopaths' "prank" (sexual harassment is more like it) ultimately killed his sisters.
Sam wasn't part of the prank and actually tried to warn Hannah. Chris was passed out with Josh. He takes it out mostly with Chris (innocent) and Ashley (stupid) when he should have targeted Emily, Jess and Mike.
I know this sounds crazy, but Nerd Explains saved my life. I was driving a buggee when all of a sudden my wheels locked, I tried to jump out but unfortunately the 1000lb landed (very luckily) on my stomach. I had been watching a Nerd Explains video prior to this in which something had fallen on someone and they had to remove pressure. Me (thinking this was it and I was going to die), remembers the advice on getting rid of pressure by wedging small objects through my stomach and the top of the buggee. This got rid of most of the pressure and I had regained some of the circulation in my legs. At this point I tried calling 911, but as in every horror story (this isn't a story this actually happened), I had no signal. Luckily, someone was on the same trail as me and heard my blood curtailing screams for help. He got more people, and eventually lifted the buggee off of me. Later, at the hospital, I was told that if I hadn't relieved the pressure from my legs the day could have gotten much worse. I am healthy and happy currently with no major injuries. Thank you Nerd Explains, I truly owe my life to you.

I really liked this video for the length and the viewpoint from a game, just like with 'Quarry'. The only true way to beat the Wendigo's is to trap every single one of them, and then torture them with Flames so they can never be released or try to get out, and in turn never be able to possess humans who enter a similar situation like the Miners or Hannah.

This game is great because you have to weigh all of the options for the well-being of multiple people rather than just trying to keep the person you are in control of at the time alive.
Yes, and those people are some of the dumbest and most irrational morons with zero survival instincts I’ve ever seen. I think it would’ve been easier to herd 200 cats through a forest fire than deal with some of the stupid decisions these characters make.

Honestly my biggest survival tip, if you’re having a panic attack in a lodge four times the size of a suburban home, run into one of the many massive, lockable rooms rather than half naked into a blizzard at night
Make him join you in like a "how to beat sting" but catch him off guard and throw a spider on him. Wolf spiders are typically large enough and harmless

There’s one part of this game that I will never forget, and not in a good way. The game explained that Wendigos can mimic the voices of people to lure in their prey. Came a part in the story my character hears her “friend” calling her and must decide whether to follow the voice or not. I chose to ignore that obvious trap and thought I was so smart……but turns out there’s an easily missable totem pole that you can only get if you go that route.
Well, you have to get close to the trap door, but not unlock or open it. But yeah, you cannot know you won't get killed immediately if you choose to get closer.
@@youtube-kit9450 But you have to follow the voice to even know there's a trap door. I can't remember the details but most people who paid attention wouldn't have followed the voice at all because it's from a character you know can't be there
@@jinhunterslay1638 Sorry if it wasn't clear, my second sentence was supposed to acknowledge that exactly and that it was a dick move to do so from the devs.
You have to mess up at least once so the wendigo is close enough to Emily then she’ll use the flare, either that or you have to jump off (basically if you don’t make any mistakes or make too many mistakes Emily won’t use the flare)
Welcome back, I'm glad to see you again. El snow Chupacabra, the less known cousin of the Aquatic Chupacabra, nice to see you cover such a rare variant. Edit: I see, El Spider-Man Chupacabra, I was not aware of such variant.
That's a tough one because zombies or vampires are something that a lot of people know about now. Until Dawn, meanwhile, has the wendigo, which people wouldn't know enough about, at least how to take them out. And I don't think wendigo are undead. Wendigo is an evil spirit that is supposed to possess people, makes them into eternally starving cannibals, and twists their bodies into monstrous forms. And while this are American teens, so they might be more familiar with the legend as they're local, they likely wouldn't know their weaknesses. Which TBH, aren't too outlandish. The one I know of is white ash (from fire, not type of wood), and just coat a blade or even a bullet in it and it's supposed to be able to take it out.
Awesome vid. I previously watched a full playthrough that got basically everyone out alive very cool to see how your approach meshed with the ethos of the game
The game essentially auto-kills Matt if you play altruistically (unless you're lucky enough to have met the game's incredibly arbitrary condition for Matt to have the flare gun and not have previously wasted it). Most playthroughs I watch he dies, unless the person playing really hates Emily and immediately abandons her lmao
32:08 as an Albertan I can honestly say you're very correct, no amount of machismo will stop you from dying in that cold. Even when bundled up, anything past -15(Celsius) really starts to suck, and don't forget windchill. Your eyelashes stick together, you sweat more from the extra layers and exertion so the inside of your clothes get soggy and gross, and everything exposed to the cold hurts. For the sake of a game I totally get it, plot armor and also not wanting to animate everyone in huge jackets, scarves, toques and mitts. In reality he dead, because that mine shaft and most of these environments had to be freezing too.
Honestly, there wasn’t much that could be done in terms of Jessica’s and Matt’s deaths. Chris is a different story. For Jessica, she was just plain unlucky to encounter the monster first. No one had any idea these creatures existed, much less what they were capable of. The shortcut offered to Mike likely wouldn’t have changed much in reality (Aside from putting him at a higher risk of dying) considering how fast the creature was moving. Its likely she would of died in the process either way, either hitting a cave surface too hard or falling to her death like in tbe game. She was doomed from the start. Matt was straight-up bad luck, if not rigged for failure. He made the right decisions in his route, plus Emily NOT trusting him with the flare gun was a sensible decision considering the fact he wasn’t proficient with a gun, but he still ended up dying to something out of his control. There was absolutely no way of knowing he would run into one of the wendigos and would need the flare gun to defend himself. Again, pretty much set in stone. Chris’s death, however, was ENTIRELY unavoidable. Ashley allowing her emotions to dictate whether she should save Chris or not was unfathomably stupid and petty. For one, her grudge lacked significant weight to be worth her time. His decision to save himself in their little Saw game was entirely reasonable, not to mention the pressure put upon him by the time constraint. Hell, he exhausted all other options he could think of before resigning himself to their last resort of keeping at LEAST someone alive afterwards. Second, there are LITERAL UNKILLABLE MONSTERS running around trying to kill everyone. Her grudge with him is not worth prioriziting over THEIR FUCKING SURVIVAL, especially considering how Chris was an extra set of hands they could not afford to lose! He knew how to defend himself, he acted rationally and calmly in the face of danger, and had VITAL INFORMATION THAT COULD OF HELPED THEM. Ashley’s toddler-level-of-stupid choice of premeditated murder not only possibly screwed herself over but everyone else as well. Honesty, I would have killed Ashley on the spot. In life-or-death circumstances like these, there is absolutely NO room for morons who are petty enough to kill someone because of an insignificant grudge. She is way more likely to become a liability instead, and that was not the time nor the place to be one.

@@wajmgirlWhat do they say?
@wajmgirl can you explain?
@206Zelda
"- The trap door that will instantly kill you because of a shiny prompt where most of the game rewards you for investigating thoroughly."
going down that path after knowing that they will mimic humans voices is bad enough , but opening an latch that is locked and shaking is even dumber.
@@chongwillson972 The Sanitorium teaches you this earlier in the game when Mike investigates the hand and consequently has his fingers chopped. Not only that, but opening a mysterious trapdoor is horror movie 101 knowledge I'd think.
As a punishment, You should make Martin’s girlfriend turn into a giant spider, before having her dump him and scuttle away in the opposite direction. 🤣
Turn her into a drider and woo her away from him.
I really liked this video for the length and the viewpoint from a game, just like with 'Quarry'. On that note I would strongly suggest (and I apologize if I'm repeating myself here) that you look into playing the 'Dark Pictures' series as each individual installment would certainly give you plenty of material for another lengthy video like this one. I was beginning to wonder what could be taking you so long to come out with something new; the wait was well worth it.
Can't wait for "How to Beat the ENDER DRAGON in MINECRAFT"
I’d pay good money to watch him criticise a random playthrough like it’s a movie.
Honestly. We need that 😂
How to survive Dustborn. 😂
1:55 For his punishment, have a spider holding a sign saying “you’re not worth biting” crawl on him lol😂😂🕷😜
That's basically what I was thinking!
What was that movie clip from?
The only true way to beat the Wendigo's is to trap every single one of them, and then torture them with Flames so they can never be released or try to get out, and in turn never be able to possess humans who enter a similar situation like the Miners or Hannah.
They probably should have made the area more secure then. Go full government but given that it is Canada they probably couldn’t give a rat’s ass to anyone dying there
Is that legitimately how the game plays out? Holy moly!
@@drewgoin8849Yup. it’s a bad thing if they get killed , but they also can’t be let free. At least they only appear at nights.
Honestly, just fill the cages with concrete and leave their heads exposed.
@@drewgoin8849 You should take a look at the clip "Events of the Past" which you unlock by getting all totems. It explains all important things in 3 minutes about the Wendigo.
My father was a Canadian Miner, and he said there are no ziplines in Canadian mines 😂.
THE NERD IS BACK!!!!!!!!! Dude, a whole fucking month…. PLEASE don’t leave us hanging so long again 🤜🤛
Dude... why do you think its nearly TWO AND A HALF HOURS long???
One of the things that bothers me the most about Josh’s plan is that why was Chris a target at all he was passed out drunk with Josh during the prank but yet it seemed to be mostly aimed at him like what the H, just lock Chris in a room after the knock out punch that saw prank should’ve been aimed at Mike with Jessica and Emily as the choose one ya know
Chris was out cold and Sam tried to warn Hannah, Josh literally targetted the two people least involved in the prank.
Imo he was starting with the least involved & planned on leaving the most guilty people for the end but just didnt get the chance to finish the prank
@@sentientbookshelf2411 Chris wasn’t even awake and he got that BS, dude wonder what the guilty were getting if that what the most innocent get, hope they add some bonus footage in the remake about what those pranks would be
he wanted to fake his death so he had to be one of the "victims"
Not an excuse, but it probably doesn’t help that not only is he severely mentally ill and off his meds, but I’m pretty sure he was completely misdiagnosed as well
This game is great because you have to weigh all of the options for the well-being of multiple people rather than just trying to keep the person you are in control of at the time alive.
Yes, and those people are some of the dumbest and most irrational morons with zero survival instincts I’ve ever seen. I think it would’ve been easier to herd 200 cats through a forest fire than deal with some of the stupid decisions these characters make.
You should do 12 Minutes next just for the sheer absurdity of it alone lol
His reaction to the ending(s) would no doubt be fucking hillerious
the endings are so bad that it s just a waste of time + character makes good decisons by himself - just after dying 15 times
I yelled so loud in my house.. i am so happy to see this
The perfect punishment is making Martin edit How to Beat STING
"Ghosts aren't real"
the wendigo spirit: 👁👄👁
Love how genuine the video is. Like when you made mistakes in gameplay, you just acknowledge them and move on instead of doctoring footage and reactions in post.
Me an avid Until Dawn fan, watching them make all the bad decisions: 👁️👄👁️, 1:38:10, 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 poor Chris
Just watching as the survivors list gets smaller and smaller...
Based on your performance here, remind me to never trust you in a life or death situation.
You’d leave me to die for a candy bar, wouldn’t you?
Admitting that was your first mistake. Hi-yah!!!
Let him get rejected by a spider woman at the next comicon
I absolutely love that you did this long review! I love how you not only explored the different options given, but also explained what you would do if you were allowed to choose your own. Thank you both so much for taking the time to review/play/edit And upload this! I have been saving this for a day when I would be out hiking for a while. Did not disappoint! Keep them coming, Nerd!
Honestly my biggest survival tip, if you’re having a panic attack in a lodge four times the size of a suburban home, run into one of the many massive, lockable rooms rather than half naked into a blizzard at night
YES I’ve been waiting for this one since I found your channel 4 years ago-Until Dawn deserves the NerdExplains treatment
It pisses me off how hard it was to keep MATT ALIVE in this game…..
Gotta keep the horror stereotype alive. It's traditional.
@@ORIGINALFBI Is his actor still not credited in the credits? 🤣😭
@@ORIGINALFBIno you don’t and he didn’t die first so it’s pointless
@@mewmewsalem Cry more
It's actually crazy because he has the least amount of voice lines in the game but the most opportunities to die
Make him join you in like a "how to beat sting" but catch him off guard and throw a spider on him. Wolf spiders are typically large enough and harmless
You're alive!!!
Man I missed you! I was feeling pretty down today as some unfortunate events went down past few months.
2+ hours of Nerd content is just what i need right now!
Pathetic!
@@Genesiscoupe3000 why thank you for your insightful observation Ser.
@@Genesiscoupe3000exactly right pathetic. With this length of time gone there should have been 4+ hours for these wayward souls!
Man I feel you too. Hope stuff gets better for you !
I missed you Nerd! It feels like it's been forever 😭. I've been patiently waiting for another video, I'm so stoked. Thank you, this made my week.
Finally back
I come from Alberta, Canada and currently live in BC, Canada. I'm pleased with how well you described the region. Good to see you've still got that old Nerd in you.
I've been waiting for this video my whole life. Or since whenever the Quarry video came out.
Okay i was starting to get worried when no new video dropped in a month. This is a very welcome upload. Love these kind of games
Was starting to get worried, glad you're back.
12:14 All I can hear is jump master yelling “airborne, keep your feet and knees together!” Haha, memories
I wanna see an episode on "How to Beat: Your Former Employer in a Wrongful Termination Suit" 😂😂
Jkjk but love these videos awesome stuff guys!
You're alive! I was worried you had been burnt out from making these fantastic videos!!!
1:53:20 Wait a minute. You had the flare gun. How is even possible for Emily to be bitten in that scenario???
She used the only flare as a light source so it had no shots to use.
You have to mess up at least once so the wendigo is close enough to Emily then she’ll use the flare, either that or you have to jump off (basically if you don’t make any mistakes or make too many mistakes Emily won’t use the flare)
Figured you were doing a video game one. However, as a fan could we not take a month lol thought something happened to you.
Same bro I checked his channel a few times over the past few weeks and no new video I was getting worried myself lol
Genuinely, thank God he’s okay
Welcome back, I'm glad to see you again.
El snow Chupacabra, the less known cousin of the Aquatic Chupacabra, nice to see you cover such a rare variant.
Edit: I see, El Spider-Man Chupacabra, I was not aware of such variant.
All the wendigos are fellow nerd explains viewers, dude suggests cannibalism every other video
NEW NerdExplains let's GO!!! He isn't dead!
Hell yes, more video game content !! really hoping for the rest of Supermassive Games with The Dark Pictures Anthology maybe? :)
Half his next paycheck and make him take it out of a box with a pile of spiders
Missed you man!!! Thank you for another epic video. Loved the Rammstein clip when talking about the flame thrower! One of my favorite bands
You should do how to beat “ the devil in me “
Awesome vid. I previously watched a full playthrough that got basically everyone out alive very cool to see how your approach meshed with the ethos of the game
How'd you get the one black guy killed? It's so easy to keep him protected- they don't even do much with him. OTZ
They don't do much with him but it's not easy to keep Matt alive. Almost every scene he's in he can die in
@@condorgaming4000I know this but Is till never had an issue keeping him alive even when I played blind.
Hey nerd glad you’re alive and well
First, I was watching The Quarry semi recently and was dumbfounded not to see this, super glad you did it.
Second, glad to see you're OK :)
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Metalocalypse reference!

yesterday i wanted a new video soo bad, and today I got this treat, and its 2 Hrs of my favorite cinematic game
I absolutely love the video game episodes! Very well done. Id gladly watch another one if you decided to make it!
They are BACK!!!!
Nerd explains AND Until Dawn we eating good today😭🙏(seriously though my lunch was getting cold looking for a video to watch)
I’ve never been so happy to see an upload (missed you sm)
Im a simple guy, i see Nerd Explains, I click like

I have now decided the new man for my junk is the “Thunder Weasel”. Thanks Nerd you’re a hero.
Keep doing VIDEO GAMES!!!
I am really glad you're doing another how to beat for a game keep up the great work bro 😊❤
Two whole hours! What a treat! Way to go Nerd Explains! I think your up for the challenge of Man of Medan…if the Quarry is Until Dawns big brother, Man of Medan is the red-headed step child…but still great!
I don't normally comment on these things, iv enjoyed your content for some time but this is by far, far, too good. A true "country mile" ahead of your best, keep it up lads
