I think your video is the ONLY one that explains it to the point without all the nonsense in between and lagging around to get to the point. straight forward and straight EASY way to do it and it actually WORKS.
Hmm, from my understanding, I'd just put whatever footage im going to be using in a bin and make proxies out that files in that bin directly. Other than that, it's really up to how you wanna do it! Thanks for watching!!
You nailed it, proxy files are the way to go - may also want to turn on the "Show Dropped Frames Indicator" That really comes in handy... Enjoyed your video, liked and subscribed!
It's Crazy that this is the only way to make this work though. Great video on explaining it. But this sucks to have to do this and waste memory like that. there are other software that do not require you to this and it plays your video after loading pretty well. very disappointing to Premier Pro who is supposed to be top software to edit high quality video. Anyway, great video thank you!
Oh trust me, it only gets downhill from there lol. There's a wealth of things Premiere should be capable of after 2 decades of existing. Why are the transitions that are built into Premiere equivalent to old Power Point transitions?? Why do I need an entirely separate effect to add motion blur??? 😭 But at the end of the day, we all come back to it regardless 😅 Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for providing us Adobe n00bs with this vital info. Fortunately enough I do have a pretty powerful computer (not boasting) and don't have this problem during playback. The issue I do have however is when I add the preset video transitions. Soon as I add those all hell breaks loose, and I've changed a bunch of settings to try and remedy it with no success. Any advice on how to fix this would greatly be appreciated.
Interesting, I'm not too sure myself if your computer is already powerful enough. The most I can say is just to select that area with the in and out points and just go to sequence> render in to out and since your computer is strong it shouldnt take too long to render out those regions and it should play smoothly when you want to play it back.
I'm trying to make a video with hundreds of high quality photos I took, almost like stop motion, but whenever I start making the proxies each photo says it has a wait time of like 1 hour. Any solutions?
If my video is already cut up a little bit and I’ve cut some of my timeline up and then like another half of it isn’t cut can I still use this and it will work all the same or will I have to re-cut part of my timeline?
From my understanding, yes. It should work without having to recut since it's essentially just temporarily replacing the media file in the project panel with a lower quality version of it
Ive just used proxies. But my premier is still lagging so bad. Once playback begins its smooth, but there so much delay on the play button. Any idea why this might be happening?
That happened with really really beefy files on my computer too! That might simply be a hardware compatibility issue. I upgraded my ram to 32 GB and it seemed to have helped since then. I would also say to make sure you allow Premiere Pro a pretty hefty amount of Ram in the preferences, and also clear the cache. That might help!
Proxies normally work really well, so at that point, it could potentially boil down to hardware problems. Some other ways that could potentially help are -Deleting media cache by going to Edit > Preferences > Media Cache > and then the Delete Button. -Increasing the memory you allow Premiere Pro to reserve by going to Edit > Preferences > Memory and reducing the RAM reserved for other Applications and if all else fails, the very last option you could do is select in and out points on your timeline using "I" and "O" for really laggy areas you want to view and and go to Sequence > Render In to Out so this way you can at least view it with 0 lag guaranteed. But this way would need you to do that every single time you made a change to an area and wanted to view it. But anyways, if your budget allows for it, I'd recommend looking into upgrading hardware if it's possible. If you're editing 1080p files, it's recommended to have 16 GB of RAM, 4 GB of GPU memory, and SSD hard drives. For 4k, it's recommended to have 32 GB of RAM, 6 GB of GPU memory, and internal SSD hardrive for Premiere and external SSD hard drives for the media and clips. I know that upgrading the RAM is normally the cheapest out of the few and can work wonders for some people's setups. Sorry if that was a lot, but I hope it helped!
Can someone help, this not effective to my premiere, it still lagging and with sound distortion. My question is why in After Effect it dont have this lagging problem
Hmmm, lagging and sound distortion is a first for me. From a previous comment: Proxies normally work really well, so at that point, it could potentially boil down to hardware problems. Some other ways that could potentially help are -Deleting media cache by going to Edit > Preferences > Media Cache > and then the Delete Button. -Increasing the memory you allow Premiere Pro to reserve by going to Edit > Preferences > Memory and reducing the RAM reserved for other Applications and if all else fails, the very last option you could do is select in and out points on your timeline using "I" and "O" for really laggy areas you want to view and and go to Sequence > Render In to Out so this way you can at least view it with 0 lag guaranteed. hmmm that's tough, do you have media encoder also installed? and is it updated to the latest version? and is your premiere pro also updated to the latest version?
It does not work. I don't know if it is because I shot my videos using a phone but none of these proxy solutions work. And even worse the video stutters while editing and also the final rendered file still stutters. (i7 3060ti 64gbRAM) All 4k videos stutter in both Ae and Pr.
Hmmm stuttering with what sounds like a beefy rig is interesting... My only other ideas would be to perhaps change the proxy size to quarter instead of half. And maybe check how much RAM you're letting Premiere or After Effects guarantee control of in the preferences and allow it more, and also maybe clear out cache in the preferences as well. A final strategy to test could be to keep your footage on a separate external drive and put the proxy files onto a separate drive like your Computer's or another external drive and that way the scratch disk is on a separate medium. This is what Im currently doing to edit smoothly on my NAS, but I haven't tried it with a regular external drive. Lastly, regarding it being footage from a phone: I do know that phone footage typically is encoded in a more taxing format with H.265 or HEVC nowadays in order to save more space on the phone's storage. You could try switching the format directly on your phone. If your phone is IOS11 or later, I think you go to Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible and that should put it on H.264 which will take up a bit more space but be less taxing on your computer to edit. Sorry to hear that though, hopefully something works for you soon!
@@OmniMediaLtd thanks for girthy reply. I had tried the separate disks. Didn't help. Tried converting the files using media encoder to H264 1080 60fps. Didn't help still stuttered. As I said earlier I tried the proxies in different methods and scales. Nope! I finally just used Capcut to edit most of the video, exported it and then added text effects in Ae and exported again. I've been having this issue on both my work machine which is a i7 32GBRAM 4060. And my personal gaming pc which is as described above. At first switching the composition frame rate to 60fps used to work. Now even that doesn't help anymore. Now the videos are only smooth on my phone (OnePlus 12 and iPhone 14pro max) or if played in Capcut. When Capcut ads a scroll bar to their video preview window, I'm done with Pr for ever. Because right now it's like every single time I want to edit, I must spend time fixing Adobe's Spyware instead of working just for the app to do the bare minimum.
@@ezvision I changed my sequence frame rate to 60fps in Pr. It worked for a bit but then the stutter returned. So I simply edited my video in Capcut, exported it, and finalized with text and captions in Ae. Both Adobe Pr and Ae still have the issue last I checked on Friday. Best of luck with your project.

Absolute SOLID video!! But if we're being honest, we all know the best solution is to quit Adobe and use Davinci righhht??? lol (Seriously but try it...your welcome ;)
It be like that sometimes! 😭 Only thing I can say is try clearing out your cache and closing other programs while Premiere is open and also to let Premiere reserve more RAM in the settings. After that point, it's likely just a hardware thing. For 4k editing, it's advised to at least 32 gb of RAM.
