  • Tying the Bob Popovics Beast Fleye takes a bit of practice to select the correct bucktail, taper and length, but don't let that put you off tying this great moving fly. Plus you don't need the longest bucktail. Tying them on shanks as Bob does too, makes the tying process quicker and easier. It won't be the most exciting tutorial to view as we repeat steps, but this is a tutorial so edits are light to ensure I don't skip important information. Don't rely on RUclips to tie flies all the time, go buy Bob's book 'Fleye Design'.
I'll be giving away this fly and a packet of Ahrex SA270 Bluewater 4/0. All you have to do to win is like, subscribe and leave a comment in this video of why you should win (try and be funny). I'll run the comp till the end of Jan 2020 before I pick my favourite comment. Good luck and don't be scared of the Beast.

That'd be killer for musky too! Awesome fly and tutorial! Now only if the fish thought my flies looked as good as I think they do...

Great job Paul! I only tied beasts twice, first time was a mess 😱, the second time went way better, but I love the ostrich idea, must add nice movement. Will tie one today I think! Thanks for the inspiration and oh...I should win because...naaaaaa I don’t deserve it that much 😛😉...but I would love to win though😊

Awesome tie once again 👍👍 I would love to win this fly and send this flightless ostrich soaring across the sky and into some green and yellow BEASTS mouth 🐊🐊 (preferably attached to my fly rod and line 😉)
Love your vids they are full of inspiration and info and hopefully see you at the BFFI this year.
    Tight lines

What wire do you use? , can you do a shank making tutorial.

0.8mm stainless steel I buy off ebay. You will need a 1 step Looper 2.25mm, roundnose pliers and cutter. I'll do one at some point, along with some other short tips

A small piece of plastic tubing on the shank of the hook will make it easy to change it when it is ruined. Bucktail is not cheap..

Idk, I guess I’ve never won any of these contests, and I don’t always have the money to buy any good hooks like that, and I think that fly would nail a fat musky!

Sadly there isn't a one stop shop. I shop around and will buy from Dutch and Scandinavian shops in addition to UK. Have a look at Bigstreamers.com, Nordic Anglers, Smartlures and Pro Sportfisher. For UK try Deercreek.co.uk. I buy my eyes and UV resin from Deercreek, but they have all sorts of other materials too. Bucktail is a tricky one and one of the materials sources I don't share. Good luck with your tying
