Anyone attempting this for the first time, marking your mono at 1/2" interverls will keep you on track. I've tied hundreds of BEAST Fleyes and I still mark the mono.
WoW .... great video, I'm new to tying and caught a couple new (to me) techniques, you've got a great style and are very skilled. I see some have asked what vise you have, pretty sure you said a 'J vise'. If you would please let me know I'd appreciate. BTW ... REALLY like your octopus theme and ocean animals, anchor etc. Sleeves, really nice!! Thanks again, Nick in Redfield Arkansas, USA
Hey Nick - Sorry delayed reply, I thought I had replied to this but can't find the reply, apologies! Yes it is a J-Vice which is made here in South Africa by Jay Smit. Amazing piece of kit. Thanks for the comments on the tattoos.. I'll let my artist know, she'll be stoked! Thanks for the great feedback! Cheers Dre
You’ve very good technique. Thank you for sharing your experience! Can I ask the name of the vise, bobbin holder and the scissors you use😁 I’ve watching tying vids for a very long time but I never see them before:) Thanks in advance…
Hey bud - apologies late reply - The vise is a J-Vice - incredible piece of kit made here in South Africa. I use Raid Zap Xact Bobbins - I love the variable tube length, and the "grip" on the thread spool. Scissors I use are Fiskars EasiShears.. Have used them for a couple years now and incredible for pretty much everything I need scissors for! Hope that helps, and thanks for the comment.
Hey man - Not sure what you mean... Do you mean the actual tail, or the length of the fibres being used? The idea of this video was to try show that you can use pretty standard/short Bucktail and with the mono extension technique, create length and profile quite easily. If you mean the actual tails themselves, they generally vary in all sorts of sizes.. sadly access to the primo very large tails is very difficult these days for most folks around the world, so we make do with the medium/average stuff!
I don't get why use the mono extension if in the end you are tying it down to the hook shank anyway. IMO it should extend a little behind it... anyway, the end result looks nice but it would look almost the same if you just tied the tail to the hook shank in the first place.
04:05 - The moment I realized I barely know anything about fly tying. 😂 Thanks for the awesome demonstration!
A truly outstanding presentation. The best to date on the web. Great job.
Thanks for the super helpful tutorial. I am just starting to work with extended body bucktail flies. Much appreciated!
This way of adding a tail & length is pure genius, thanks for sharing it.

@@BucktailFlies thx
Great streamer👍🏻
It appears that you are using small or medium size buck tail or is that just a part of larger buckt tail that broke?

cool video Andre, maybe do an overhead angle on the vice. Maybe something on a magic arm that you can move closer for smaller flies.
Thanks for the suggestion!
What kind of vice is that? Ty
