    It’s great that Pathfinder made this kit. Now a common man can own a Stainless steel M40. The original Swedish M40s are rare and expensive.
    I enjoyed the video.

      I have been fortunate enough to have a original stainless M40, Aluminum M44, and the Pathfinder PFM40. The original stainless is a bit thicker and probably a little more durable, however the PF is really great and close to the original.

    Someone may have mentioned it but the bail handle and circular ring is not only for hanging over fire but you can prop it out to the side - the bail arm locks itself outward and then doesn’t get hot from the stove/fire.

    • @TheBikerDodge
      @TheBikerDodge 11 месяцев назад

      Can't say about the pathfinder copies, but the large ring on the original Swedish army Trangia/Svea mess kit IS for hanging over a fire. Holding the bail away from the heat was just a bonus.

    You can insert a knife in the side of the windscreen to lift it off so you can easily put the sniffer cap on. Blackie Thomas has several videos on uses and Mods.for the swedish M40. They're well worth the watch and he has a great number of great bushcraft videos that are very informative.

    I have the Swedish original... just got my Pathfinder Swedish mess kit.. It's beautiful😍.
    It will be a generational tool. Your grandkids will still be using it.
    I do need the bag, they were out of the color I wanted.
    Buy it, You won't regret it.
    I paid way more for the Original. I consider this Pathfinder set a bargain! The simmer ring on my set came stuck on, be careful getting it off the sealable lid.
    I suggest using the simmer ring.. that stove gets so hot so fast.

    Very nice setup, I have the old pathfinder stove and of course Trangia stoves, I currently use the Soto 1310 butane stove, it works great, it uses butane which is much cheaper than other gas canister stoves, the Soto 1310 you have more control over the flame, than the Trangia type….

    I have used Heat before I didn't like the smell... I use 91% rubbing alcohol. I have worked as a welding inspector on a pipeline at night instead of running my Jeep all night I had one of those little alcohol stoves like what you have when I worked up in Nebraska and Colorado. Even in Pennsylvania during the winter. I can put it in my cup holder and heat up or make some coffee. I can also just let it warm up inside of my cab so I don't have to run the Jeep all night. Anyway, when I haven't had my alcohol I've used other products I had on hand diesel fuel additive smells the worst. I highly recommend you don't use that one.
    That is also a Swedish military meal kit. They were using those during World War 1. Old Dave Canterbury as obviously improved the quality over what it was. The original ones were aluminum, I also made some that were stainless steel but they went back to the aluminum for the longest time. The original ones were a lot heavier than the one you got. They're also a lot more expensive to buy even off of eBay. They're also a little more difficult to clean. The swedes used to call it a dirty pot, or a dirty jar.

  • @davidlaw233

    I have found the rubber seal shrinks a bit and tends to fall out.
    I'm thinking it's the alcohol reacting with the rubber

    Lowe's sells soot less alcohol for stoves in the paint section.

    • @Funkteon
      @Funkteon Год назад +1

      Other than buying pure ethanol from a scientific supply store, there's no such thing as 'sootless' alcohol for a spirit burner. The ethyl alcohol and other additives in the stuff you find in retail stores is what doesn't combust properly and turns into soot, especially if the bottom of your cooking vessel is more than 5cm from the spirit burner...

      That's what I do. I use the Trangia gas adapter, with two tent pegs through some drilled holes in the cover. Just run the hose through the slot in front. Works great. Much faster than alcohol, and the wind shield is exactly what you need for a gas stove.

    Like the video. Yes, these small parks are very nice and most are well kempt.
    FYI: Because utilize has a different meaning than use, utilize is not a fancy way to say use. Use means to consume from a limited supply or take something to achieve a result. Utilize means to use something beyond its intended purpose. Using utilize rather than the correct word use does not come across well.
