For a moment there when you realize the axles were rotated in opposite directions it looked like MJ moonwalking on the bench 🤣

I bought an Element Knightrunner (IFS1) some time ago and was so looking forward to running it. It was my first scale rig. Immediately I noticed the front end getting caught on the smallest of rocks, on everything! Straight away I was massively disappointed and was blamed the IFS design for its awful clearance. What I forgot to take into account was that the Knightrunner was running 1.55” wheels and 3.85” tires as opposed to typical 4.75” tires. This was the major differentiator and I didn’t appreciate the smaller tire difference. I have since upgraded a bunch of parts for the IFS1 getting rid of the bump steer, and improving durability, whilst adding some weight, AND now I’m running 4.19” tires which is the biggest advantage to clearance. It’s true that IFS2 has a better design, and improves the clearance not least, but I’m going to enjoy my modded IFS1 for now and use it as a scale trail rig as it was intended. Great video! Been wanting to see this for a while.

Interesting, I had a Knightrunner with the IFS1 which had the Knight customs high clearance kit and I also added all the Bowhouse RC IFS upgrades plus the Gatekeeper trailing arms and it always performed brilliantly.
IFS2 looks significantly better on the bench however the ability to use stock Enduro brass knuckles on modded IFS1 definitely looks like it outweighs the IFS2 improvements on the rocks.

I have a Zuul 2, but immediately decided to make it more of a pre-runner/rock racer so weight isn't really a concern.

OKay good to know i wasnt going mad when swapping form ifs1 into ifs2 in my gatekeeper and wheels rotated wrong way :D had an SSD Diamond Pro rear axle and was wondering if i installed it wrong. HAd to re-solder the wires on my motor as its running brushed at the moment :-)
My trailrunner has a 1200kv Fusion, and class 1 tired and knights customs 3d printed skid, so much nicer. She's also rocking Hobbytech Peugeot 504 body, so rock crawling is not the greatest but she is fun to crawl!

You CAN still get them for $275 a AMain. I just ordered one for S&G.

IFS is a cool thing, I hope we see more manufacturers doing some work on it
Ruby looks so good, you made me want a 4runner. I have the IFS and the rear normal axle from a WlToys basher, which are as wide as any other 1/10 axle. I want to make a 4runner out of it this summer, we will see how much fabrication is needed (probably a lot)
For me, the IFS1 is better than the IFS2 only because of the better grip, and that is because of the brass parts. IFS2 will have to get weight on the wheel tire and insert combo for now, as I think there arent brass parts for IFS2
Maybe Ruby should get the IFS1 back on, and build a third IFS rig with that IFS2?

I think there’s a little tab inside the ifs2 diff housing to orient the ring gear. You just snip it off to flip the spool. I installed ssd brass knuckles, then modified the knuckles and rack for more steering angle.

I put the ifs 2 on my trailrunner after 2 trail runs. I added the ssd brass knuckles with treal wheels with the iron rings and 4.19 landmines with 3 bros dual stage inserts. I also put in a fusion se with a flash hobby servo. I think its awesome this way. It beat the creek in this config however the front diff ate itself.

The Element diffs virtually always need shims, and virtually never come shimmed. I wish the IFS2 came as a proper kit, like the Stealth X.

Hoping we’ll see some more aftermarket support. If Version 1 plus mods is about as good as 2, what’s V. 2 with the same level of mods?

now you can use that IFS V1 to build a speedy prerunner for fun bashing around😁

start at 38:40 play it at half speed, front is ratcheting, probably gear set shimmed too tight. That is the surging later on the bench. maybe try shorter spring same rate, or lower a rate on front, to try to keep front down a little more on climbs. doesnt look like you adjust more AS on that chassis, so maybe a little stiffer rear spring.

I picked up a well used TrailRunner For cheap. All of the bits that make it "scale" were scraped off. So I'm wondering if there is a generic kit that has wipers, mirrors, snorkel for cheap. I was thinking about installing IFS2, but will put it off until later. Louise Mallet or JC Tusk for best tire upgrade?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  4 месяца назад

I think the Tusk is more capable overall, but I have a real soft spot for the Mallet. It might be my favorite C1 tire.

Having leaf, the trail runner and zuul IFS2 and ill tell you id much rather deal with the ifs1 problems than leaf springs. IFS1 still performs much better than my leafs 😂

IFS has always intrigued me, but v1 wasn't enough to scratch the itch. IFS2, suitably modded, just might be the ticket. If Ruby's long wheelbase is a problem, there's always the Bushido 😉

I just had to flip the gear for the IFS 2 , maybe I should reverse the motor rotation? The performance is way better than the IFS 1 in my opinion.

    • @CrawlerCanyon

I love the IFS2 on my before-it-was-a-thing trailing arm + IFS build-- but the IFS1 that came off here had the goodies on it-- STRC brass, Knights Custom 3D bits, the whole deal. So this rig got quite a bit worse when making the change. Because my brain was having a tough time registering the improvements in IFS2 (which are many) because in terms of pure performance, the tuned-up IFS1 was as good as IFS1 can get.

@@CrawlerCanyon oh, upgraded IFS1 would probably be hard to beat but I just had the bone stock V1. Either way, it makes for a unique crawler. Not sure if all of the brass from v1 will fit v2, I’ll have to report back.
