    . Catatonia is an abnormal-neuropsychiatric condition that affects both behavior and motor functions. It results in unresponsiveness in someone who otherwise appears to be awake.
    In this video, Dr. Adam Jones describes the types and presentation of catatonia.
    There are three types of catatonia, catatonia associated with another mental disorder, a catatonic disorder due to another medical condition, and unspecified catatonia.
    In terms of symptoms, catatonia can be stuporous and excited.
    The characteristics of stuporous catatonia are immobility, stupor, mutism, and stereotypy.
    The characteristics of excited catatonia are bizarre, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
    The following topics have discussed in the full video:
    * Definition of catatonia
    * Types of catatonia
    * Presentation of catatonia
    * Diagnosis of catatonia
    * Causes of catatonia
    * Subtypes of catatonia

    My sister recently developed this, she is unresponsive, holds unnatural movements, and has bizarre facial experessions. Its seems to be triggered by depression. And I have question, are catatonic patients aware while they are in their catatonic state?

    • @ICELORD
      @ICELORD 3 года назад +33

      Yes they are 100% aware and terrified. Also it hurts them that they can respond the way they want.

      Thanks for asking. She has fully recovered, after about 3 weeks into being taken into a psychriatric ward where they gave her a diazapam medication. Its been a little over 1 month and a half now.

      @@taghreedrulia5168 No, she had no sudden addiction after getting of her medication. This was one of the things I feared. I hope your son doing fine.

    So let's play a game, do I have this because of depression or autism

    • @Annabeth26

      I have ADHD and depression and anxiety, and suffer from catatonia. I am NOT a licensed psychiatrist/psychologist, but i am a fan of psychology and have studied it in school.
      My understanding of neurodivergence is that our (you and i) brains are wired very differently from neurotypical people, and autism and adhd affects many things, including our senses and our emotional regulation. Since catatonia is an emotional side effect, spurred on by emotional triggers, i would say it isn’t too unlikely that while it is most likely directly linked to depression, your autism worsens the effects and frequency of catatonic states. That is to say, you are more likely to have it because you have both of these things. If you just had one or the other, you would be less likely to get catatonic, as most depressive people do not suffer from catatonia.

    My doctor prescribed me lorazepam for Catatonia right after I told him I went through hell getting off of it. I was so dependent on it for 8 years and couldn’t bare going through the wicked detox again.
    When my Doctor dismissed what I said, I began questioning if I had even spoke, and if so questioned if it was loud enough he could hear? Than panicking started questioning if anything in life including myself was real. 🥴
    My catatonia used to last up to 8 hours my gy
