  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is the cheapest electric car that you can buy in America. It is also one of the smallest electric cars that you can buy and it is the only EV convertible currently on the market. With an EPA certified range of 68 miles on a full charge, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is designed and engineered for city life. In another fun and informative TFLcar First Drive review, Roman test the new 2013 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive in the very steep hills of San Francisco. Does the smart have what it takes to compete in California's crowded electric vehicle market place? You'll have to watch the video to find out.

    i got the smart ed august 15th and im absolutely loving it, mine is matte grey, it has regen paddles which none of these have, regen paddles are amazing, it has led daytime running lights which make the car look super cool and its very quick, if you step down on the pedal and make it click it will unleash all 78 horsepower and 96 lbs torque and will go from 0-40 in 4 seconds i was surprised when i did it and it felt so good and put a smile on face lol, on average im getting 70+ miles per charge

    0-60 in 7.8 seconds using Kickdown Mode. Everyone should test drive one of these things. You'll be considering one after you drive it, even if you weren't before. The amount of fun this car delivers is unreal and extremely addicting and it has plenty of range for daily driving. $139 a month

    For a typical home, another sedan or SUV is absolutely essential if you're considering this car. For $139/month, I can totally see this as a viable option for people who commute to work on a daily basis through endless traffic(esp in SF or LA).

    Yes, I still have it, and I love it even more. I have a gas engine wheelchair van for my wife, and I have now visited gas stations 4 times in the past 13 months. Besides the obvious joy of not dealing with all of the gas engine "things" (tune ups, spark plugs, exhaust systems) the car is simply fun to drive. I hadn't enjoyed driving so much since I sold my MG Midget 35 years ago. This car performs well and I have had no (as in: none) issues with it. Maintaining it is a snap. I recommend it to others, starting with the fact that it is not for everyone, but is perfectly suited for some.....like me.

    Nope, we kept it in on purpose. We like to show the mistakes and the behind the scenes stuff just like the shot the of Roman shooting the Smart car as it drives by.

    Oh man, the scene with the woman crossing in front of the camera.
    His reaction was priceless.
    I'm happy it happened, although for him it wasn't.
    As for the smart EV, I hope it hangs in there till researchers create a a new battery, more powerful, because it looks really cool and not everybody can afford tesla EV.

    Been driving my 2012 Smart Fortwo Passion Coupe for two years and, aside from a few negligible complaints, I've loved every minute of it. Can't wait until my next car. Planning on getting the electric drive! Hopefully by then the cars will get much further per charge.

    I think Roman has it right, the smart is basically a utility based scooter replacement. Only practical for a relatively short commute.
    As a supplement to a car instead of a replacement its a great option. All of a sudden you have a scooter with room for groceries, or a seat to pick up your kid from their afterschool activity, quite handy. It just can't measure up as a car. Currently there isn't an elictric that does
    Even hybrids require mostly urban driving to compete with modern 4cyl hatches.

    Lets say you have to charge the car at home everyday. That can tend to be a lot of energy being used. One would almost argue that the savings from fuel would be spent towards a higher power bill along with the inconvenience of a limited driving distance thus making it not as practical as one would suggest. Would that be a safe assumption?

    The target customers for this car won't typically drain the battery over the course of a day, so the 0% to 100% charging time is irrelevant. When you consider that you're typically charging the vehicle while you sleep, it really doesn't matter how long it takes provided that it's at a usable SOC by the time you need to leave in the morning.

    Nice review. I own an ice smart fortwo passion coupe and I love the heck out of it. I live in the city and the smart car is, in my opinion, the ONLY option for a city car. Parking the smart is ridiculously easy and spots are easy to find. I get about 37 MPG real world which is better than most cars on the road and the cost to purchase the vehicle was low.
    I cant believe I waited this long to buy one...My monthly jeeps gas bill exceeds the smarts monthly payment and its fuel.

    My Smart ED is brilliant, always ready to go for my daily commute. I overnight charge on the standard 110V 12A EVSE that came with the car. Having driven other electric cars, the Smart Electric Drive is well engineered, and has some capabilities others don't such as a fully conditioned (heated/cooled) high voltage battery.

    Thank you for doing videos in this format where you have drive videos interlaced with the manufacturer's "official"-- much less boring.I want your take on the vehicle, not stuff I can look up on the internet. I'm comparing this video to the videos where you have a speaker on stage (Lexus) or just the official talking beside their vehicle. Also prefer your longer videos, I feel less ADHD when I view those. Thanks!

Assembled in Mexico, “pride American” sticker from the factory on the cabin and not one airbag in that big rig! It was a company truck! So 8 airbags in that little car would have saved my health pretty darned good in my opinion! So dream on “proud America”! But there are still other countries with much better cars in the world. But I know. If it hasn’t a V8 - it can’t be good!

    08:05 Saving money ???
    Dude what are you talking about ?
    ( this Smart Car costs 25.000 DOLLARS ) there are no savings , the Petrol Version costs 10.000 bucks , you will never get your 15.000 Dollars back + the Electric Smart has a 68 Miles range it does not cost allot to do 68 Miles in a petrol smart

    • @treechoper21
      @treechoper21 8 лет назад

      What about your gas savings?

    • @SuperNiceguy60
      @SuperNiceguy60 8 лет назад

      The petrol version of this vehicle its not gas guzzler you will never use 15.000k o fuel in this vehicle ,no even if you keep this car for 20 years
      You wont get your 15.000 dollars back

    • @treechoper21
      @treechoper21 8 лет назад

      and you can check my math the gas version has an 8.7 gallon tank and the average gas price per gallon in the us is 1.80(not sure if that is 100% accurate). 8.7 x 1.80 = 15.66 most people use a tank in a week(FYI i am just looking this up i don't know the precise range of the smart fortwo, so around a week) there are 52 weeks in a year 52 x 15.66 = 814.32 and 814.32 x 20 = 16286.4 now ev's do cost money to charge but way way less, it costs about 136 dollars a year so 136 x 20 = 2720 and 16286.4 - 2720 =13566.4 so in 20 years you don't save all of your money but you do save 90% of your 15000 extra investment

    • @SuperNiceguy60
      @SuperNiceguy60 8 лет назад

      TreeInHD there are a few issues with your math's
      1- No one stays 20 year's with a car nor even in Africa
      2 - Why would you stay 20 year's with a car and still end up with a 10% loss on your 15.000k Investment ?
      3- Which vehicle lasts 20 years without MAJOR Surgery being done to It ??? once you factor repair costs and trying to keep your 20 years old car going we are talking about a 30% Loss , unless that you expect the warranty to last 2 decades
      .
      4- The Smart Petrol is capable of 54 mpg from 8.7 Gallons gas Tank this is around 480 Miles range
      .
      You will never complete 480 miles in a week in a electric vehicle with 50 miles range which takes 7 hours to charge

    • @treechoper21
      @treechoper21 8 лет назад
