  • This is my journey to find out what really works to prevent squirrels from taking over the bird feeder. I love birds as well as squirrels. I directed squirrels to come to my window, not to the bird feeder by adding this solution. The important part of this solution is that it didn't cost anything!

    Well done! I've managed to beat our squirrels - I use a regular tube feeder with two feeding ports which hangs by a string from the metal garden arch, squirrels used to hang by the tail from the arch & work their way down the string to wrap around the feeder & eat nuts. I cut the bottom off a large empty soft drink bottle, threaded the string through the neck & suspend it so it's just covering the top of the tube & they can't get any purchase on the bottle so can't get to the tube below it. A few flying attempts from the side but just an embarrassed squirrel landing in a heap on the path results from that !!😅
    I'm happy to feed squirrels which I do with hazelnuts, walnuts & almonds just want to feed birds too.

      Yes, it worked perfectly. Thoroughly tested it out through the winter!! Squirrels tried to go up but were discouraged at the point of the cake cover.

    Thanks for the video. You could also use a metal slinky around the pole.

    Brilliant! How did you attach the plastic cake cover to the curtain pole?

    Is the black bracket added to the underside of the wooden bird feeder originally used for curtain rods? And, where did you get it?

      I couldn’t tape what I saw but basically they couldn’t make a jump. It only discouraged them.

      Unfortunately this cover blocks squirrels 🐿️ only. If it has wings, not much luck. One thing I do - I let out the feeder at 8am and bring it in at 10am. I don’t keep it outside.

    I think the baffle had more to do with it than the nuts.

    Be VERY CAREFUL about feeding squirrels. THEY can get to be EXTREME PESTS and get into your residence costing a LOT of damage.

    • @babochon
      @babochon  6 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely. You don’t want to do that although they look cute. 😊 In this video, I did it for comparison and don’t do it any more. Besides they have tons to eat!

    How do you refill the bird feeder? Use a ladder 🪜? This is the best method I’ve seen so for. And I love the cake prize I’ll get for buying the “cake baffle😉”. I’m so doing this🤣🤣

      The pole is not that high. I could easily bring down the feeder and refill. 👍
