the strength of moral that Zhu Li has is so amazing. Girl didn't even stay and mess things up for Varrick.. she did it to save the millions of people in republic city and risked getting compromised because of it Damn she is the goat

I personally loved this episode because it further showcased how powerful and dangerous Kuvira is as a villain. The absolute deadpan expression when Toph tried to insult her and the Beifong family quite literally running for the hills from her helped to reinforce just how imposing and threatening Kuvira is.
Aside from everything else, I'm just loving how Kenny totally called/predicted the whole "Zhu Li double agent, fake villain henchwoman," "pretending to turn while actually working against the villain from the inside" trope. I love faith in humanity displays.
Unless you're Kuvira, because then you'd be powerful and dangerous enough to send the Beifong family quite literally running for the hills as they did in this episode.
I totally recommend She Ra as one of the series you continue after watching Korra. She Ra is such an amazing show that I just started watching, so it would be amazing to see your thoughts on it. It’s the PERFECT show to watch after LOK. It has AMAZING LGBTQ representation, perfect for Pride Month, and the show has such a beautiful story and a beautiful art style. It has amazing characters and a very team Avatar-esq group of fighters. All the characters are amazing and they each have their own stories and growth. Also it would be great to see Montana’s analysis of the mental health and the psychological symbolism of many characters in the show would be amazing to watch. also, we need more people to react to She Ra on RUclips. This is a strong possibility since they’re the youngest with 2 older brothers. There is research that supports that each consecutive son a mother bears has a stronger possibility of being gay (The Older Brother Effect). There’s also a strong possibility that if one is gay so is the other since they’re identical twins.
I wouldn't mind either, as in real time this is something that happens a lot with twins, many times one is straight, the other is gay. PS. Wei sounds like gay lol 🤣
@@ijayespinoza where have you read this? This seems...a bit... off-putting. I don't have any brother, only sisters, but even so, I don't think any gay person would like to think that a part of their identity is constructed because of others simply existing....
@@DankSouls37 you like it or not everything is dictated by biology. If I remember the research paper correctly is that the more kids woman has the less likely white blood cells are to attack the fetus and more female hormones get absorbed. Or something like that. I remember seeing that paper like 4 years ago
@@DankSouls37 He is correct, I am a gay dude but knowing that being gay is genetic isn't anything new to gay people. The research is there and does show a correlation with subsequent sons statistically being more likely to be gay. The chance is still like 2% after the first or second son and increases to 5% after another. Theres evolutionary theories about why this may be, whether to reduce mate competition with their older brothers or some other unknown evolutionary advantage. Gayness is in a lot of ways an enigma considering research would suggest that there is a genetic heritability but gay people often don't reproduce so it lends itself to the assumption that there IS an evolutionary advantage to having gay people be a part of a community because it has persisted throughout time, but we don't have a definitive why.
Notice how when they are earth jumping Lin unto the box thingy Bolin uses both hands but Toph doesnt. She has her hands behind her back like most of the time even tho earth bending usually uses a lot of feet and hands.
Kuvira vs Suyin is my favorite 1v1 next to Tenzin vs Zaheer. Not only is it very refined but also innovative as we see when Suyin makes armor for herself. Also: HELL YEAH to Toph taking down that entire platoon of mechs!
This is definitely one of the most exciting episodes of Book 4. An all out rescue mission of Suyin’s family, with the addition of Toph in the mix. She knows how to put hurt in the dirt, especially when she dissed Kuvira!
When you think about it, Toph's comment kinda falls flat given that Kuvira just doesn't even care and Toph follows it up with literally running away from Kuvira alongside the other heroes.
Just for reference sake, a rail gun (which has a few different names) is a weapon that uses electromagnets to propel a ferrous object at extreme speeds, and due to those immense kinetic energy stored within the "shot" it has the potential to "punch" through objects and keep traveling as a deformed projectile. numerous games use this weapon and often have it capable of firing through objects
When you think about it, Toph's comment kinda falls flat given that Kuvira just doesn't even care and Toph follows it up with literally running away from Kuvira alongside the other heroes.
20:35 "She did that point before!" The moment it reminds me of is when she did the same point in The Blind Bandit. "Sounds to me like youre scared boulder!"
Suyin’s father was shown in the comics, it wasn’t officially confirmed but he literally has the exact same hair as Su and toph clearly took a liking to him
So excited for SHERA! The ride is just absolutely amazing. It's much like atla in that the four seasons were planned from the start so it's this one beautiful complete arc, very satisfying indeed!
All we know from Canon and confirmation is that Suki and Sokka stayed together and lived in Republic city until their later years so I don't think Sokka would NEVER cheat on Suki! There are more men with darker skin tone in the Avatar universe and Sokka has no romantic feelings towards Toph he just admired her like a trouble making younger sister.
@@DarthKay093 Even if Sokka didn't cheat on Suki, he could still have a kid with Toph. Maybe Sokka and Suki took a break, maybe they had an open relationship, maybe Suki passed away, or maybe Toph just wanted a donor. Who knows! Suyin at least shares some core personality traits with Sokka and it's fun to speculate.
That's my headcanon. There used to be a webcomic on Tinder where Suyin was conceived in a threesome between Sokka, Suki and Toph. And Lin's father was the actor who played Toph on Ember Island (obviously many years later when Toph was an adult). This was before the official comics introduced Lin's actual eventual father. The artist was aatkaw, unfortunately it got deleted and the artist doesn't have the original comic either, but made a new comic of Lin's conception (in a way more graphic NSFW way this time, so beware)
Toph was nearly 90 yo in this episode. That's why she didn't join the fight. She knew she would be a burden. (and you know she never backed down from a fight) Yes, she was the greatest earthbender in the world. But as she herself said, her fighting days are over. Kuvira would demolish her. Still, we love her all the same.
Indeed. I'm pretty sure Toph essentially admitted that even she could not defeat Kuvira. With the threat that Kuvira poses to the entire world and all the lives that she could take if she continues on her campaign, if Toph had the power to defeat Kuvira she would've done so. But as Toph said this episode: *_"It will take EVERYTHING WE HAVE just to get out alive!"_* Toph knows she can't beat Kuvira, just as Katara knew she couldn't beat Unalaq in Season 2. That's why they accept that they must put their faith and trust in the next generation to fight where they no longer can. But Kuvira is the most skilled metalbender in all of ATLA/LOK. She could definitely beat Old Toph without much difficulty. Prime Toph would be more of a challenge, but Kuvira is the superior fighter and would probably still win anyway.
I never understood people that said that Kuvira was a weak enemy because like yeah she's "just" a bender but she's?? An AMAZING bender! Like the fact that she learned metal bending from Suyin (the daughter of the person who created metal mending) and she BEAT HER in like a minute
Indeed Kuvira is one of the greatest fighters in the history of ATLA/LOK. Even Toph essentially admitted that even she could not defeat Kuvira. @@TheGreater-ScopeVillain I think that if Toph lost that fight, it would only be because of old age and not because of ability. I think that Toph in her prime could have beaten Kuvira easily, but that still stands that Kuvira is a fantastic and very powerful bender. She is certainly not weak
The prison was made of wood and rope so the Beifongs couldn't earth/metalbend it. Also, being suspended in the air must mean there is a limited range to earthbending. Otherwise, the Beifongs could have escaped on their own.
Toph at age 85: my back is killing me, I'll go home Bumi at age 112: let's fight some fire benders during Sozin's comet! I guess I know who's the strongest earth bender
In a fight of Toph vs Kuvira I think Kuvira would ultimately win. Toph may be the original metal bender however her age would be working against her. She would undoubtedly give Kuvira a tough fight but would ultimately lose out to Kuvira's agility, stamina, and precision tactics.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Toph essentially admitted that even she could not defeat Kuvira. I really like how they kept Toph so in character and it's not all overly warm and fuzzy of a resolution but it's resolved in a good way where the family can move on. Sometimes I think some family members have it in their heads in real life if the relationship isn't exactly as they wanted it/envisioned it to be then it's not worth having and that's just not realistic or healthy. Toph and all of the earthbenders here were amazing 10/10 for the fight choreography. Also...poor TV :D
The point that toph does to kuvira is something she does a quite a few times, usually whenever she is calling someone out directly. Since she's blind she stands with her ear facing them instead of looking them in the eye, honestly a really cool detail
When you think about it, Toph's comment kinda falls flat given that Kuvira just doesn't even care and Toph follows it up with literally running away from Kuvira alongside the other heroes.
I never noticed this before but they fully animated Zhu Li to look down and to the left which is traditionally a way to spot if someone is lying (disproved ofc)
I really like that dragon eel spirit. The way it's animated is mesmerizing to watch, and the actor has such a nice voice; but, I really understand their point of view. Why would generally passive spirits get involved with yet another bout of violence between humans? They have nothing to gain from it but pain, the only diference is that Korra is asking their permission while Kuvira takes as much as she pleases from them. It's easy to get why they'd remain neutral.
@@JamaicaZ160R1793010A Depends on how you define "better." Since AtLA spirits have almost always been portrayed as having the capacity to be temperamental and even fickle or vindictive and cruel. Hell, a major arc of a spirit within Book 2 is reconciling their bigoted ideas of humanity when they see evidence that humans can be more than what they original thought. The spirits aren't a monolith, and they aren't portrayed as inherently better than humans. They can be hostile and bitter, but they can also be naive, vulnerable to being taken advantage of, which is the main reason they don't want to be involved in human affairs because of how often it leads to conflict, not just among humans but the spirits as well. The Dragon Eel even specifically mentions how Unalaq forcibly compelled the spirits to lash out and attack, another example of how the relationship between spirits and humans isn't strong enough to shoulder the burden of an alliance.
@@alliandrablack7751 I meant overall. The spirits sent inherently better than humans moral wise and Unalaq did that, but the fact is when civilizations merge, compromise will be needed to make it work.

@@TheGreater-ScopeVillain The fact she made no attempt whatsoever to stop the Beifongs from escaping (despite having plenty of reasons to) indicates she didn’t want to take her chances. Katara vs. Unalaq is an unusual scenario because the latter had a spirit army to back him up, and that’s something that cannot be defeated without spiritbending. In all likelihood he just sent some spirits to get her to back down because he himself or his human soldiers wouldn’t cut it.
11:13 also notice how Toph says "if that's your decision and it makes you happy, then fine" this is a small look in how she raised her kids, giving them as much freedom as they could have, as opposed to how she was brought up by her own strict, sheltering parents no matter what they wanted to do, she never wanted to be too strict with them, even when it hurts her (remember, Toph's not always as rock-like as she likes to front)

"Operation Beifong"?? This show just knows what we want
The suyin vs kuvira fight was my favorite 1 vs 1 in the entire show. The fact that it happened in such a short time really shows how refined metalbending really is and what metalbenders are capable of when matched up against one another.
the strength of moral that Zhu Li has is so amazing. Girl didn't even stay and mess things up for Varrick.. she did it to save the millions of people in republic city and risked getting compromised because of it
Damn she is the goat
Zhuli goat tho, she was willing to blew up and die just to save the world from the weapon
she's the best
Varrick too. Both were "villains" that are really good people underneath their images of themselves. Hmmm, sounds familiar...
3:19 In S3E1 Raiko mentioned a spirit vine growing through his office but he’s making it work, even 3 years later
I like how Varrick is terrified of what he created. He invented the Avatar equivalent of the Nuclear Bomb only fueled by something readily available and he's a good enough person to say "NO! We cannot take this any further!"
Kuvira: *_"Do you realise what we could do with this kind of power?"_*
Varrick: *_"Yes, I do! And that's why we've gotta put an end to it! What if it fell into the wrong hands?"_*
I lost it at the "fruity counter: 1" 😂 One of the twins is definitely 🌈
gotta ship that Wei x Bolin 👀

I think Wei could be gay, and I wouldn't mind, yay for representation.
I need confirmation on that one day
Definitely one of my many crack ships in LOK :D
Which one? Lol
Montana: *recognizes the CGI alongside Kenny this time*
Me: (Palpatine voice) "She grows stronger in the Force. A powerful Sith she will become!"
22:55 Bosco the bear was nearly the only non-hybrid animal in the Last Airbender, hence the gaang being so confused when they first heard about him.
"You give metal benders a bad name" is the reason this is my favorite episode.
Toph’s parents were so controlling that she ended up being too carefree
That's Kinda The Point Of Why She Wanted Her Daughters To Have Freedom.
@@hannahburke7328 Yeah, I'm just saying she took it too far, went to the other extreme.
This episode proves that you should never mess with the beifong fam🪨
Unless you're Kuvira, because then you'd be powerful and dangerous enough to send the Beifong family quite literally running for the hills as they did in this episode.
Operation Beifong and the last stand are the best episodes of season 4 like they are so good
I totally recommend She Ra as one of the series you continue after watching Korra. I really hope that you pick She Ra as one of the shows that you will continue, I would definitely enjoy watching that!
ewww why tf shera lmao

Exactly the reason they should watch Shera.
I couldn’t have said it better.
Patiently waiting. Y’all should’ve used Su Yin as the thumbnail her creating the armor was the single best moment of the season
it's such a Beifong move too
That guy who patted Bolin is Wei, a lot of people think he’s gay, which is something I’m totally for.
19:43 first Todd Haberkorn and now arm blades. The creators really did watch FMAB.
I think we can also all agree this episode is amazing due to amount of Lin content we get
I would kill for a Keeping up with the Beifong’s
There would be a crazy bending duel every episode
“You give metalbenders a bad name!”
Yo Toph is an absolute icon!
And the fact that Kuvira just didn't care in the slightest at that comment makes her an icon in her own right.
Notice how the first metal bending toph did she close the door on the 2 guys and it was all folding and rugged but now its the same so smooth
I just love how Bolin reacts just like how we probably would if we ever met someone from ATLA och LOK irl
The part where Su used a piece of metal to use as armour. Like mother like daughter.

Toph but if Kuvira got one good hit on her it would be over since her body is much more fragile now so it’s definitely a risk

the animation during this fight is always fantastic to see
Just for reference sake, a rail gun (which has a few different names) is a weapon that uses electromagnets to propel a ferrous object at extreme speeds, and due to those immense kinetic energy stored within the "shot" it has the potential to "punch" through objects and keep traveling as a deformed projectile.
numerous games use this weapon and often have it capable of firing through objects
That Kuvira Suyin fight had an amazing korraography.
Zhu Li really IS synonymous with BETRAYAL. 😆😆
In this house, we stan Juicy
I love Lins face when Bolin asks about her dad. Also I can't not hear Bon Jovi after Toph says "You give metalbenders a bad name"
The duel between Suyin and Kuvira is imo the best combat in the entire Avatar series hands down.
I'm inclined to agree.
Glad to see I'm not alone in the comments. Soon as I saw the thumbnail my mind was like "You give metal benders a bad name!"

Suyin’s father was shown in the comics, it wasn’t officially confirmed but he literally has the exact same hair as Su and toph clearly took a liking to him
This is hands down the best fight in both series
So excited for SHERA! The ride is just absolutely amazing. It's much like atla in that the four seasons were planned from the start so it's this one beautiful complete arc, very satisfying indeed!
I just love LoK for having all these awesome female heroes and villains ❤️♀️💪
I wish they’d just answer the question we still don’t have an answer to: DID SOKKA AND TOPH DO THE DANCE WITH NO PANTS AND CREATE SUYIN?!
:D
The artist was aatkaw, unfortunately it got deleted and the artist doesn't have the original comic either, but made a new comic of Lin's conception (in a way more graphic NSFW way this time, so beware)
nah, Suyin´s father was an engineer that Toph met when the Gaang was planning up Republic City, it´s in the comics

Zhu li in this ep is amazing.
That season 4 theme "duh nuh nuh nah nuuuuhhhhh" (yall know tf what I'm talking about) and all it's iterations through are epic
But as Toph said this episode:
*_"It will take EVERYTHING WE HAVE just to get out alive!"_*
Toph knows she can't beat Kuvira, just as Katara knew she couldn't beat Unalaq in Season 2.
Montana: It’s CGI 🥰
Kenny: Yes 🥺
The prison was made of wood and rope so the Beifongs couldn't earth/metalbend it. Also, being suspended in the air must mean there is a limited range to earthbending. Otherwise, the Beifongs could have escaped on their own.

Never realized that, but that is definitely a good point
Bumi was too good
Earthbending is one of my favorite bending art second to Waterbending because of of strong stances, punches, kicks
Easily one of the best episodes of Avatar period. Su Yin vs Kuvira is probably my favourite fight in terms of action.
Toph and Zuko are still alive. There is still time for their life changing trip together

Kenny's "Um excuse me" after Kuvira pulled out her blade had me in tears for some reason😂
Suyin vs kuvira is one of the best fights in all of the avatar universe.
The issue is the show portrays them as inherently better than humans when they're just as flawed as them.

Toph's reputation as a great Earthbender probably stopped Kuvira from fighting her rather than Toph's current skill level.
She doesn’t even need her arms to bend these days.....
It wasn't that Kuvira stopped fighting. Rather, it was that Toph and all the others heroes *_ran away_* from Kuvira. After all, Toph essentially admitted that she could not defeat Kuvira. With the threat that Kuvira poses to the entire world and all the lives that she could take if she continues on her campaign, if Toph had the power to defeat Kuvira she would've done so.
Toph saving the day once again
it's interesting how Toph was probably one of the first ones to know about Lavabending, with Sun.
The original Beifong!
11:13 also notice how Toph says "if that's your decision and it makes you happy, then fine"
this is a small look in how she raised her kids, giving them as much freedom as they could have, as opposed to how she was brought up by her own strict, sheltering parents
no matter what they wanted to do, she never wanted to be too strict with them, even when it hurts her (remember, Toph's not always as rock-like as she likes to front)
I love Toph’s implication that Katara could have folded Unalaq at any time.
