  • Join Jam on an Epic Adventure Across Great Britain for a Noble Cause!
    Hello, Adventurers!
I’m Jamie Shakeshaft, known to my friends and family as Jam. On July 2nd, 2024, I embark on the most thrilling and challenging adventure of my life-SwimRunning the entire length of Great Britain!
My journey spans over 1,000 miles, from the southern tip of Lands End to the northern reaches of John O'Groats. Along the way, I'll be running and swimming through some of the most breathtaking landscapes this island has to offer. But this isn't just a personal quest; it’s a mission to raise £2,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in honor of their 200th anniversary.
As a passionate sea swimmer, I recognize the crucial role the RNLI plays in safeguarding our waters. With some of the world’s most formidable tides, our beaches and coastlines can be perilous. Many of us will never need the RNLI’s services, but for those who do, this 24/7, 365-days-a-year emergency service can mean the difference between life and death.
    The Journey of a Lifetime
    *From Lands End to Lynmouth:*
I’ll kick off my journey along the stunning South West Coastal Path. Upon reaching Lynmouth, I’ll swap my trail shoes for a wetsuit and swim across the Bristol Channel to Porthcawl.
    *Through Wales to Liverpool:*
After a night’s rest, I’ll continue north on the Sarn Helen trail, navigating through Wales’ remote terrains, and swimming the length of Llyn Tegid. The trail leads me to Talacre, where I’ll swim across the River Dee and River Mersey, arriving in Liverpool.
    *Up to the Lake District:*
From Liverpool, I'll follow the picturesque canal paths to Preston, Lancaster, and the Lake District, where I’ll swim the length of Lake Windermere.
    *To the Scottish Highlands:*
Following the Cumbrian Way, I’ll head north past Carlisle to Glasgow. From there, I’ll take the West Highland Way, traversing a challenging route to Fort William and Fort Augustus.
    *Final Stretch to John O’Groats:*
My last swim will be the legendary Loch Ness, keeping an eye out for Nessie. From Inverness, I’ll join the John O’Groats Trail, journeying along the northeastern coast until I reach the iconic black-and-white signpost marking the end of my epic adventure.
    Challenges and Community Support
Undoubtedly, many challenges lie ahead-unpredictable weather, potential illness or injury, and the risk of chronic fatigue. But I’m ready to face these head-on. Throughout my journey, I'll share photos, videos, and updates on social media. A live tracker will also be available so you can follow my progress in real time.
I warmly invite you to join me along the way-bring snacks, cheer me on, or even run or swim alongside me for a stretch. Your support and companionship will be a beacon of motivation during the loneliest parts of my journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my adventure. I hope to see you on the road or hear your words of encouragement.
    With immense gratitude and excitement,
    Jam
