Tobal 2 is a really good fighting game, with advanced grapple mechanics for its time. There is an English patch available. Speed Power Gunbike has really weird controls but once you get the handle of switching between vehicles, it gets very fun, very unique game (highly recommend it for Megaman Legend fans). Adventure of Little Ralph is amazing (play it on normal or you just get 1/2 of it). One import I highly recommend is Gear Senshi Dendoh as well

You didn't include Tales Of Phantasia and Dragon Ball Z Legends. I remember owning Macross Plus VFX2. Me too, I would like to see more games like Snatcher and/or Policenauts.
I remember seeing nekketsu in old game magazines for playstation and Saturn. I was so hyped. Like finally a new beat em up. Being ne in those times I am a huge beat em up fan and during that era of gaming beat em ups fell off. I become very mad when that game never made it to the USA.
Macross VF-X2: At some point you'll get challenged by a VF-19. If you fight it, you'll get the bad ending but if you don't (do not press a single button), you'll get the good ending.
Listening to the first game shown here ... reminded me at the original Japanese Rival Schools. It came with 2 discs, disc 1 was the one that contained the Street Fighter like Versus Brawler ... but disc 2 came with a Story Mode. When they released Rival Schools in the West they did sadly not translate the Story disc, which was a blast to play. You would create your own Character, with its own Special Moves and then join one of the School Gangs ... and then there was a story revolving around each gang. You could also use your own character to fight with your friend in the Arcade Disc later too.
You don't see such creative, quirky fun games nowadays anymore because developers and gaming companies are afraid of taking risks AND they care more about revenues.
I have a Japanese PS2 so I'd like to pick up copies of some of these, but alas I'm not rich enough, lol. Little Ralph followed by Harmful Park is a serious knockout combo for the wallet! I realise most people will try these via emulation, but I do like owning games I really want to play. I have a few fairly valuable PAL PS1 games which I bought new when first released like Parodius, In The Hunt and Philosoma. Though kicking myself that I bought the PAL Symphony of the Night collectors edition back in the nineties but sold it a few years later when I sold my original PS1 - that's definitely the main one that got away!
I'm late commenitng on this, but I finally got aorund to buying a Japanese PS2 and I am eager for my copy of Tobal 2 to arrive, as I enjoyed Tobal No.1 a lot.
Kitchen Panic is one game I’ve wanted for ages, sadly it’s really hard to find these days. Nothing on eBay in months and only 2 on buyee, a used one for £190 and a new one for 2 grand, will probably never own it now.
Most of these games are highly playable even if you don't know japanese. Some of these games have been translated like policenauts so everyone should check it out.

My best friend was a huge nerd back then and he jail broke/ modded his playstation 1 and he ordered a lot of games from Japan to play on his modded ps1..
