First time hearing this song and seeing this video. The late Mr. Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes are one of my favorite Gospel Groups. Grew up listening to them on the radio while getting ready for church. Ma would get up early and cook breakfast and Sunday dinner and Daddy would shave and select the suit he would wear. Fond memories. May they all continue to rest in peace. 01/20/2024 ❤️
I 💖 many of the great Quartet Gospel Groups there are really no words to really say it clearly but that they were God sent, an thoroughly enjoyed even today, but Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes has to be my favorite since I was a little girl cause they didn't seem to mind loving, and worshipping the LORD and I have always enjoyed that about this group, and Mr. Willie Neal Johnson I truly love and enjoy when ever he sings, not another like him, his kind is truly hard to come close to in gospel music today, a gift that is truly missed in 2022. But thank God for videos that you can go back and enjoy these legends still today. Sing on brother Willie Neal Johnson, sang on, in heaven now forever hope to join you there one day. I can listen to them all day, and my soul, and life is blessed, that's how you know when you've been sent by God, because even after you are long gone from here on earth, what you did then is still blessing lives today in 2022, thank you LORD for these gifts you've placed in them Amen.
The Gospel Keynotes in The Mighty Clouds of Joy with one of my two favorite gospel singers I used to love when they come to Beaumont at the Julie Rogers Theatre and singing
Boy, It don't get any better than this. Willie is in rare form and Charles voice is as clean and clear as you can get. I've said before that Paul was my man but Charles got him. Robert held it down after Charles but that Charles was something special!!!!!!!!!! Thank God for giving us the Keynotes! All of them!!!!!
i have to disagree bro when charles told willie he wanted to go higher in the word willie told him i hate to loose you but when paul pulled that lil shady move on willie willie cried. he talked about it for years afterwards man willies soul was hurt about that
Reginal Cullins : You so right Paul was the voice and Robert was best than Charles and the zNew Gospel Keynotes I is up there with Paul. I though that it was Paul and then, Robert but it's neither Charles is good bit nothing like the original two.
Actually Paul was first, he took off and joined the Mighty Clouds of Joy in 1979 and it broke Willie's heart. Charles came after and did a fine job but no one can really match Paul's sound, but Charles is no joke either. Robert was the third but he was not on the level with Charles or Paul. Paul returned and for a time both he and Robert was there at the same time. But it's really good that Willie spent his last days with his original and best line up (in my opinion anyway) - Paul, Jeffrey and Gino!
In this classic video the back ground singers are Val (lead guitar), Larry (One of Gospel's best and innovative bass players) and Jeff. Not singing but will take Jeff's place later for the Keynotes is Minister Teddy Cross! True legends!!!!
@Bryan Jackson, Charles had more professional experience than Robert. When Robert came in he was a very young man. Charles started preaching. Charles was from the famous Gospelaires of Dayton, Ohio. Still none can beat the original Paul Beasley.
Harold sutton i hear u but, in a personal conversation Mr jeter did tell Paul he had a gift far beyond his (his voice, particularly his falsetto) but u r correct Claude was the gospel giant who trended
Does anyone know when this video was recorded? If McLean joined the Keynotes from 1979-1984, why is this video in black and white? I would think it'd be in color.
Probably unofficial video recording and sometimes they did those in black and white. They have a few out with old time groups done in black and white due to the type of camera they used
I am the brother of the real Charles McClain who is still alive and in Newark, New Jersey. I remember the recording of the song and this video does not have the real Charles E. McClain
Horace McClain man what are you smoking, this the Rev Charles McLean, the REAL one his brother name is Joe McClean. Nobody knows the Charles you are talking about gtfoh
Horace... some people don't know the history of the Gospel Keynote. Charles E. McClain .... my cousin who is still living was a member of the famous group. Just spoke with him yesterday.... believe it or not.

Willie and Charles was just as good as Willie and Paul any day of the week!!! Those KEYNOTES were hard to handle back in the day. Oh yes!!!!!!
Love it I always wanted to see Charles sing live
Charles was great and I learned falsetto by trying to sound like Paul Beasley and still can hit the high notes at 62. Thank you great GOSPEL QUARTETS

Anne Robinson Charles was before Paul and Robert, Charles was the best. Willie knew that, nest of all times.

I see jefrey. Next to jeffrey is larry and is val in the glasses? This is a treasure! Thanks
rare footage of Charles. good stuff
yeah Charles was simply incredible. a lot of high end vocal wise. Robert and Paul had a lot of warmth.
true bro. but you have to ask, did Paul get his game from Mcclain or was it the other way around? This sounded like Paul all day
Good question
Raymo BettyBoi Paul was a Keynote first.
Christopher Pitchford Charles was first, and the very best. Paul was good but Charles McLean was incredible.
marjorie harris Paul joined in 69, Charles came in 79, then Robert came in 84 or 85.
Why did you say that Geno was in this video? I see Val, Charles, Jeffrey, and Larry....
I think about madea everytime I hear that show nuff gospel I grew up listening to it all

@Bryan Jackson, Charles had more professional experience than Robert. When Robert came in he was a very young man. Charles started preaching. Charles was from the famous Gospelaires of Dayton, Ohio. Still none can beat the original Paul Beasley.
steven mcgauley ...and I agree that Rev.Charles Mcclain was something special but Paul Beasley was the man!!
Amen!! Vocal technique wise and natural smooth effortless falsetto none i mean none... Can compare to paul beasley ! Class all by himself
They all imitated Claude Jeter who was the best!
Harold sutton i hear u but, in a personal conversation Mr jeter did tell Paul he had a gift far beyond his (his voice, particularly his falsetto) but u r correct Claude was the gospel giant who trended
I'm sure you'll agree that Rev. Roger Bryant with the Jackson Southernaires had a great falsetto too.. he's my favorite
Does anyone know when this video was recorded? If McLean joined the Keynotes from 1979-1984, why is this video in black and white? I would think it'd be in color.
arringtoncane 1979 or '80
@@kemaniiwu8523 Why is the video in black and white?
arringtoncane 🤷🏾♂️ i don’t know.
Probably unofficial video recording and sometimes they did those in black and white. They have a few out with old time groups done in black and white due to the type of camera they used
And Geno is not in this video. That's Jeffery singing baritone.
steven mcgauley Jeff is actually singing 2nd tenor,Val Alexander is singing baritone.
ponchieboy68.
Larry sings tenor also Larry sung tenor on a lot of those songs, Jeff is singing baritone on this song, and Larry is singing tenor
Charles falsetto was money
I’ve been trying to figure out what type of bass Larry played for so long
Mr. Robert had nothing on Mr. Charles!!! He could go!!!!!!
Bryan Jackson
Charles McLean, which is good as Paul beasy in Robert Williams
Been waiting for this one to come back. Can u post the clip of Jesus You've Been Good To Me?
Charles was a beast, he started before the others. he was the original.
Marjorie Harris Nope, Paul was the Original Keynote.
The original version with Paul before they speeded it PLEASE
They all got their game from Paul, Charles, Robert, and Michael Cook from the Mighty Clouds, they all copied Paul's style of singing, Paul was first.
I know I learned by trying to be a Paul Beasley especially singing Walk Around Heaven
Never heard of Charles until now. I grew up hearing Paul and Rob. Not gonna lie Charles sounds great
2:50 Why's he so mad 😂
