  • XR100 Gearing and First Street Ride. The 2002 Honda XR100r needs regearing so it is better setup for street driving. In this episode I install a 14 tooth front sprocket and a 38 tooth rear sprocket. Stock gearing on this bike is 14/50. It still needs taller gearing so I have ordered a 15 tooth front as well as a 36 tooth rear to try in an upcoming episode. I also verified that we calibrated the digital speedometer properly. Join me for the first street ride this bike has ever LEGALLY taken.

I did not use the mirror or the hydraulic brake switch that came with the Tusk kit. You can get the price just under $300.00 if you keep your original stator and don’t add the voltage regulator. You would need to use the mirror that came with the Tusk kit and don't purchase the flywheel puller. You would need to buy the Tusk Enduro Kit that has the surface mount front blinkers rather than the kit with the integrated handguards.

I bought a xr100 2003 and have been working on it for a month and it’s coming together. I would also like to make it street legal and your videos are very informative. Awesome video man can’t wait to see more

Thank you! @Oscar Vlogs this was a real fun build. I have a tendency to go a little overboard sometimes but it can be made street legal for just under $300 I have all the parts listed in the video description on one of the more recent videos. Good luck with your project buddy! 👍

and your absolutely right brother those are nice air cooled units. i have a 'o1 xr8or. there's no oil filter but there is a oil screen case anyone was wondering . drain the oil and remove the clutch side case. on my xr8or the oil screen is located on the lower right hand side not sure if the 1oor's are with that same location but you slide the screen out clean it. i use brake kleen spray for the screen but im not a authority on that clean method its just what ive been using when its time for a oil change . have a new gasket for the clutch side case handy when reinstalling . this comment is just for the unknown

I appreciate that man! This one has a screen also. I was told, but I have never taken the screen out, that the screen only needs to come out if the motor blows up. The screen is designed to catch large particles. Like I said, I don't know this to be a fact, but it's what I was told. This winter I plan to freshen up the motor and put in a new piston, rings, and valve seals so I will check out the screen then and see how it looks. Thanks for sharing and commenting man. Much appreciated!

Very, very nice. Personally I think you have the sprocket ratios pretty good. It is still trail capable and easy around town.
The first bike i actually owned was a Kawasaki 500 Mach III back in about 1974. 🤣🤣, then a triumph then a honda K2 750 bored to 920, lumpy cam and fully Dunstall kit - cafe racer.
    Cheers my friend, happy days.

@pilot McBride thanks man I appreciate it! I think your probably right but I'm gonna try seeing what stepping up to a 15 tooth from a 14 tooth does. It its too drastic I also ordered a 36 tooth rear to try in place of the 38. This little bike is a ton of fun on the street!

Great vid. Im surprised you had a hard time finding a rear. I went on ebay and found several choices. I went with a vortex 40. Jt 15 front. About to take my maiden voyage, ll. Thank you for inspiring me to gear up my bike.

Thanks man I appreciate it! You are going to have a blast! I actually ordered a 36 also. I have it but havent installed it yet. It has a 38 on it right now. If I needed to I could still go with a 36 without a problem.

Where did you get a stator to handle the lights? Is it a 6 volt system or 12 volt system? I have a street legal xl75 that I'm about to put a xr100 engine on and need something to handle the lights. It's currently 6 volt

    • @MotoVated207

Mine is 12 volt. I have all the parts and links in the cost breakdown video

I put a bbr 120 kit in my son's xr100 it would do 60 for about 2 months but didn't rebuild the bottom end and now it runs and will kick in neutral but makes a horrible noise in gear and locks up put it back in neutral motor unlocks and starts back up 😪

You can use DOT street knobbies. You dont have to be confined to the clasic ADV looking tires. If your doing mostly street riding I would go with ADV tires.
