  • In this video I show how I repair an old White Mountain Ice Cream Maker that had the gears stripped out. I cut a new splined gear and weld up the output gear using silicon bronze and then reassemble the unit.

I have one built in December of 1973. Still works great. Quality like you don’t see these days.

Agreed. I think that's why the owner wanted to save it and exactly why I wanted to tackle this project. Bringing a quality made product back to life.
      Thank you for watching.

    Hi Mike
The ice cream maker brought back memories from when I was a kid. That was a special treat when we would make ice cream on a hot Saturday evening as a family.
I really enjoyed watching your video of the repair. That was a very creative repair. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Carl. It was kind of a trip down memory lane for me as well as it’s been over 40 years since I’ve seen one. It was a fun project and a great learning opportunity for me.
Thanks for continuing to follow along and for your support Carl.

One craftsman to another fantastic job but you should have used a food grade grease in there.

Yeah, these are going for a couple hundred a piece now. I just grabbed one for $40. All it needs is a motor regrease and cleaning, and I also need a new white mountain bucket label

WOW, I had no idea they were selling for so much. That explains why the owner wanted it fixed.

    Beautiful gear hobbing! great video.

Thank you but didn’t use hobbing to cut this particular gear. Just used an involute cutter.
      Thanks for watching.

Would you consider repairing another one? I have one that needs a similar repair.

Sorry, I don't have the time currently and that one was more or less to see if I could repair it, the challenge.
Thank you though and thanks for taking the time to watch.

      Thank you.
I'm not certain this would be a cost effective repair due to the amount of time involved. I did some trading on this particular project but I was in it quite a few hours to complete.
Thanks for taking the time to watch.

    Hey Mike,
I have a White Mountain 6 quart ice cream freezer which has the same problem with the spline. The spline is stripped and the gears no longer work correctly. Would you be interested in fixing this for me? Of course would be happy to pay you for your services. We love our ice cream maker, and so disappointing that it broke over the weekend.
Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in and if so we will work out contact information. Thank you so much.

I won't have time for a couple of months but may be interested after I get caught up.
I must warn you though as it will be an expensive repair due to the amount of time involved.
      Thank you for watching.

My Ice Cream Motor just leaked oil for some reason. Why does it leak grease? I only used it a few times...Help

    • @zmotorsports62
      @zmotorsports62  2 года назад +1

More than likely heat related or wrong grease, too low of a drop point.
It's not very well sealed by today's standards.

@@zmotorsports62 Thanks for getting back to me! I was thinking that that It got to warm from running it after the ice was frozen and it put more pressure on the motor. But it was only 35 minutes. I’ll check after 25-30 minutes next time and make sure everything is put altogether right…I’m hoping it won’t happen again. That grease is nasty.

    • @zmotorsports62

I purchased both cutters from Travers. They’re both imports but they worked perfectly and appeared to be decent quality.
