A non-stick pan is ideal for making pancakes...but a cast iron pan makes fine pancakes as well, so long as the pan is sufficiently greased to keep the batter from sticking. Spread 1 teaspoon of fat (vegetable oil, butter, coconut oil, etc.) around the base of your cast iron pan, heat it on medium until a sprinkle of water into the pan sizzles (usually takes just a few minutes), and then add your pancake batter. The more seasoned your cast iron pan is, the less you need to oil it. Good luck!
@@jillyf that sounds great, we’ll give it a go. I think the pan needs seasoning again, but it’s hard to do while travelling. Otherwise we’ll make scrambled pancakes a thing!
@@patriciamcdonald4353 thanks Patricia. I really think there was something wrong with the stuff we bought. We got some birch syrup in Alaska and it was so yummy! Would be great on porridge!

I don’t think maple syrup is supposed to smell like alcohol. But it made me laugh.
Great adventure!!! Can’t wait to see where you get to next 😜😎

Thanks Julie, yes a new nonstick pan is definitely required. The cast iron one is good for baking bread in a fire, but not much else!
