China won 3:1 to Brazil in preliminary round and this match is the final round in Shanghai. It was Day 2 match. Day 1 match China lost 0:3 to Russia while Brazil won 3:2 Cuba. After the match, Cuba players and Brazilians have a fight, it was reported that #5 Gato spit to Brazilans. From the video footage, #10 Torres chased Brazilian on the court and played boxing.
Post-Match Commentary :
#5 Connelly & #12 Bodziak were suspended to play. #9 Caldeira was injured and only 9 players remains. And what come to the worst is #2 Ana Moser injured and #17 Suruagy was the libero while #15 Fofao was the setter, it means there were only 6 players played on court without any substitutions could use.
#8 Leila Barros (25yo, 1.79m) played crazy in this match. Her spike like hammer but also tips if time was right. She made Chinese players unable to defense her attack at all. The set 4 match went to tie-break and ended by 17:15. Leila was the MVP in this tournament. I felt this Brazilan squad was the strongest in the whole Brazil volleyball history. Personally speaking, even better than 2008 one.
Meanwhile, Chinese players were very tired as same set of players participated in Olympic since July and played until WGP in September. #2 Li Yan (20yo, 1.78m) made so many mistakes as she was very tired. Besides #11 Sue Yue (23yo, 1.86m) with good performance, #5 Wu Yongmei (21yo, 1.85m) and #1 Lai Yawen (26yo, 1.87m) were supporting the team. Rest of the players were very fluctuated. Lots of mistakes by China made the 5th set ended in a big different score.
