ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Doting kestrel parents
The male works hard to find food for his hungry family and has been bringing in a wide variety of prey, from small rats to lizards. It is the female's job to tear this up into tiny morsels to feed the chicks.
A fair feeder
The female kestrel is very fair, distributing a little bit to each one in turn. If there are any bits that are too big she eats them herself and where a prey item is too big to finish in one go she caches the rest at the back of the nest for another day - like a food larder. Watch her pluck a blackbird ready for her chicks - the nest quickly gets carpeted in fine blackbird feathers.
Growing kestrel chicks
Notice how fast the chicks grow from tiny, helpless creatures unable to hold up their heads to a noisy rabble squabbling over food by the time they are just one week old!
A caring and fierce mum
The kestrel mum is so attentive. Watch as she spreads her wings over her fluffy brood and envelopes them in her feathers - at one point she actually topples over!
She is still very wary of intruders, which is hardly surprising after all the attacks on the nest she endured whilst incubating, but she's a fierce defender and these chicks are set to do well.
This female kestrel has had to fight to keep her nest all season. Follow her story of bravery here: www.robertefuller.com/diary/s...

Dang, she has a epic mate! He's quite the hunter!
Lost Coyote Kestrels are awesome hunters.
Agreed
Yeah but did you ever wonder where he sleeps at night!
@@mikeable1267 ???
@@holdthetruthhostage he doesn’t sleep in the nest with his mate and chicks
i love how she gets all fluffy when she sits on them
I got all fluffy after having my kid too 😂
@@bruker4230 oh my goodness, that is such a funny comment!! 😂
@@bruker4230 hol up
All birds do that. Even domestic ones like chickens
Cela s appelle la tendresse l amour maternel et notre DIEU aussi nous aime comme ça ❤💖💚💙
Having watched a lot of nesting videos were siblings are trying to eliminate each other, or rival birds successfully killing the chicks for food or to capture the nest, it is nice to see a stable household with two parents fully in control of raising their brood.
😂😂
@Raj di angelo that is the worst news ever
You get a successful family such as this one when there's a plentiful food supply.. In years when food is in short supply it's a different scenario.. That is when you see the chicks competing for food and witness the soul destroying image of a chick unable to compete it's other siblings and slowing dies of starvation apparently unnoticed by it's parents..
They are such a sweet couple
These kestrels are lovely but there was a terribly sad older sibling killing a sibling in the successive clutch with the Barn Owls. It was an unusual situation to begin. The parents only chick survive in the first clutch and she didn’t fledge independently. She remained in the parents nest and brooded the eggs too. But when Mum was feeding the 3 new babies, she tried to steal the food. When Mum said no, she attacked the chicks and killed the largest and flew away with it. She was permanently ousted after that. The remaining two Hans and Grete fledged and were beautiful.
Mrs Kestrel's a caring mum. Love the way the chicks all huddle together when mum has to leave the nest, each of them for one another in case of trouble, supporting one another with warmth. Maybe there's a lesson for us humans here.
Footage is very clear, thanks for sharing this.
Yes, they literally balance against one another because at this stage they are too young to hold their heads up

If you think she’s crazy and jumping at nothing: look to the right of the screen between the 3 tree branches. You can see eyes in the tree over there. Momma isn’t crazy, she’s on point!
@3:21
Nice catch, I didn't see that
Eagle eyes !
Omggggg
woow sharp eyes
I love how there’s so many chicks that she can barely cover them all lmao
I love to see all the chicks fed equally, sometimes with these raptors, the weaker chick is just bullied by the stronger siblings to a slow starvation, and then mom will feed the corpse to the stronger chick, ugh.
That is only when the food is scars. Then they're hungry and fight for every morsel. And as you said the weak ones die.
I bet you believe in evolution based on that comment.
Illuminati Agent #43 it would be a fact even if evolution was not true.
And if evolution isn’t true, whatever force that created animals would have to condone the behavior, or at least be ambivalent to it
@@LeafseasonMagbag Correct evolution has no term, it could just as well mean change and change happens in everything including human designs.
What I refered to was macro evolution, the belief that soup turned to apes and humans and that soup turned to huge lizards and then chickens.
Thats not usally what happens with birds thats more other animals but i uderstand what you mean
I don’t usually see this many healthy chicks in one nest. This is such a sweet video, and I’m so glad these Kestrels are doing well. 👍
They have the sweetest little chirps.
Like what I've said in the previous video where they are still protecting the 6 eggs;
"What a great husband, and a remarkable mother 🤍"
What an adorable little family. May they all successfully fledge and prosper in the wild.
i hope that everyone died... cause they are killing those little rats...
@@alessandrobufarini6784 Thats the Circle of life without birds such as kestrels the numbers of rodents would be overwhelming so you might want to think about your comments before posting them. It's not personal so please don't take it like im having a go at you im simply stating facts. We need raptors in our world they keep things in check.
@@markwhelan9887 im being sarcastical. it would be amazing that nobody complains again when a woodpecker kill all those little.birds and being cry babies all the friggin world..... the society i mean. its like you said , the circle of life.
Even in animal kingdom, a mother often get no rest. What a devoted kestrel mom.
They’re such good bird parents
What a great teacher you are. I’m sure many moms who are teaching their kids at home during these trying times appreciate your teaching style.
One thing I don't understand who are the people who disliked this beautiful effort of this guy to bring such great insight to us.
I can't believe how wholesome this video is, makes me appreciate nature even more
Such amazing parents 💞 it's amazing to watch them, they're so gentle around their chicks and patient, and I love how they put the food in the corner for later! Adorable.
Kestrels are beautiful. We have them here in Ohio USA. I see them sitting on the telephone lines next to the roads as I drive. I see them hover before diving for prey. Thank you for doing all the work involved in making these videos. I learn something new with each video. If you want to ever see the huge warbler migration across Lake Erie in Ohio in early May yearly, I would be happy to be your guide and chauffeur.
Such a loving caring mother bird...absolutely beautiful filming.
Thank-you for sharing, enjoyed watching this!😊

Isn't LIFE JUST WONDERFUL.
AND SO IT GOES..
LIFE IS JUST BEAUTIFUL AND WE MOVE ON..AND WE THANK OUR PLANET
Its so cute how the babies huddle in a circle :)
I luv how the chicks just go CRAZY for food and how the mother struggles to fluff on them :>
Mother's love is unconditional
I love kestrels you make me fall in love again ref thank you❤
Food shared equally - impressive.
I think outta all the birds Ive gotten to know via your channel Kestrels are my favorites.
Yes they are so special to us here too
Robert, you are an amazing artist and show us the beauty in life. Thank you for sharing your awe and wonder.
Deep Teal Yes! I agree - he is an excellent narrator.
Intelligence in nature...its just amazing!
What a doting, loving mother. Human beings should learn from her not to neglect their children by traumatizing them with verbal and physical abuse.
Beautifully captured. Thanks, Robert, for this look into their world. I cannot wait for the next chapter❣️
Oh mein Gott wie süß😍😍😘🥰😊
Can you imagine taking care of 5 little lives at once? God bless you mothers!
God bless the fathers who provide for the mothers too!
What lovely parents
I love their little faces. They look like grumpy ole men. 💜😂💜
I know its nature, but I love the way you put the clutch back together after the jackdaw ordeal. I think I would end up perching up taking the jackdaws out with a .177
Evil little things 😭
Quite a job plucking through all those feathers, good for feather cushions for the nest.
Gotta say, the parents are some really good hunters
Phalamy Kestrels are amazing birds of prey.
I love how you told the story. Loved the filming too xxxx
Motherhood one of the hardest jobs in the world
Another outstanding video Robert. The editing and the storyline are crisp, and it makes us all want to see more! They are cute little kestrel babies.
What a great mother she is. I love these videos. Thank you for posting them
This is awesome. Love it.
What a good Mommy!
Animals are the best parents.
You should have your own tv show.
You Sir should narrate a sleep story in Calm. You're voice is really calming. 😌
That's amazing, she is a good provider to her beautiful chick's
Thanks for these wonderful clips.
Thank you for another superb video Robert.
Geoff.
Such an amazing mum, so much to go through though 😢
wonderful..thanks for share this beautiful video.
I really enjoy my time following your documentaries, thanks.
Oh okay, those are HER chicks. For a second there I thought youtube was recommending me another "Bird murders helpless other birds" video
I'm glad they all get fed. I always get stressed thinking that the runt won't get anything.
if you look on the livestreams on roberts channel you can see that the kestrels, barn owls, and tawny owls are all brooding eggs right now! the kestrels family are soon to hatch! you can realtime see how good of parents kestrels are 😊
Beautiful. Thank you Robert.
Now that's a great momma
Thank you for another fantastic video and looking forward to watching them grow!
it's precious to see birds of prey being caring parents :)
Never realized how much a birds life of stress for caring for her young was so similar to my own.
Wow, hands down to the parents👏❤️
Hoo great 👍 Job God bliss you Always
I feel bad for the mum she cant sleep because shes trying to warm and protect her chicks
Theyre going to grow beautiful and brave birds so its all worth it 😌✊

Beautiful video Mr. fuller.
FanTASTic!!!! I was totally amazed😳 at how big they were at 4 days!!😳 Pretty soon the nest will be to full for Momma to get in! LOL Thank you Mr Fuller for keeping us posted on their progress!!! I so enjoy birds & your video's are always so informative about ALL the creatures around you. I to, love nature's wildlife. My grandmother's house had woods behind us with diverse wildlife.... but not like yours!!! Bravo!!
Beautiful birds
This is so soothing 😌 honestly if only the chicks knew what the parents had to go through to protect them before they hatched 🙉😁
Very very nice video thank you My fiend for sharing 😃👍
Too handsome! You are awesome! I love your footage!
I wonder if the mum ever gets to sleep! Being so alert and all.

Lots of flavor variety. Good teachers
Aww so beautiful I had to subscribe...Thanks 4 sharing 💯👌🏾👌🏾
Thanks for subbing!
I subscribed to your channel when I saw you filming a kingfisher in a hole. With each of your films, I see how the level of filming grows and the plots become more interesting. You are enthusiastically mastering the topic of video filming of wildlife, so it becomes interesting to viewers. You do not regret money for organizing the process of growing up chicks or baby animals. Professional installation. Good luck to you!

Very nice 👍 movies I love it 🥰
This is so lovely 💖
I've followed this family since the eggs were laid and surprisingly (and curiously) never saw the parents remove any fecal sacs. Do kestrels practice this behaviour at all? Great work on these videos BTW, amazing footage, narration, video and sound quality, editing, bg music, etc.
Good mother💕💕💕
Very beautiful series
At 3:22 you could see the eyes of another bird on the right side. It looks pretty creepy.
It's just an eye and it is indeed creepy.
I believe that is actually the father.
Noisy bunch 🤣🤣
You're a master storyteller also 👌👌👌👍👍
MOTHER'S LOVE.
They’re fed all of the time! Mummy is so careful with feeding each and every one of them, whenever she can. I wonder if they’re actually that starving when she comes home with food? Or are they just being dramatic lol
Can you give the dad some credit too please
The young are likely always hungry, they are growing rapidly after all.
It’s dad, who bringing food.
Birds are amazing
Merci de Paris ❤🧡💛💚💙💜✌
Una gran dedicación de sus padres. Felicitaciones.
