I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Hey! This did help me about three years ago! I had no idea what was going on and saw your video which led me to replacing the switch myself and saved cash out of hand. It happened again last week and I started looking for videos on how to and this video came up again! For me a recap on RUclips how to 😂!! Thank You Again !! Literally lol
Great video. I followed everything. I changed almost every switch, the electric clutch, hard wired the clutch because the connects weren't tight, etc..... drove me nuts. The freaking reverse switches!! the left side, I jumped across with a wire, and boom, I had clutch engagement. So replace both reverse switches. Drove me crazy for 2 days.
I love my Cub Cadet It has never given me one issue but I saw this video and thought I’d comment. I have noticed that the pot will take a sec to engage sometimes not always just at random so I’m going to be proactive and order the switch great video 🤓
Great video, easy to follow and very helpful for troubleshooting. My 2007 Cub Cadet Zero-Turn is the Z-Force version. Found the right handle interlock switch was bad. The switch is a N/C (normally closed) switch that had gone bad. When it failed it failed ‘Open’ so it simulated a backing up condition and the blades shutoff as a safety feature. Had already tested the PTO Clutch and changed out the PTO Switch so I knew they were good. As soon as I replaced the right-hand switch it worked perfectly. Really appreciate the time you took to put together the video.
Great video. I parked mine earlier this summer when our rains stopped coming and the grass practically died off. Went to start it today about 6 weeks later after a few days of rain and blades won't engage. I was hoping it was just the PTO switch as that looks easy to change, but that doesn't seem likely as it still has the same "feel" as before and at least once it killed the motor when I tried to engage it and wasn't fully on the seat. After reading the comments, I'm really hoping it's the even easier fix of the battery not being charged up enough!! I did have to put a starter on it to get it going initially, but I didn't leave it on very long. Fingers crossed!!
Just bought one of these (looks like this exact one), mowed for 10 minutes and the blades stopped and the PTO will no longer engage. Not making a noise except for the switch itself, so this may be my problem. Going to try this first. Thanks for the GREAT video!
@@aliz.526 I bought mine from a dealer that sold used mowers. Turns out it was a blown fuse. I got it back and happened again twice so it was a deeper electrical issue. Hopefully yours is just the PTO fuse. try replacing it and hopefully you are all set.
I know this is an old post but I have the exact same mower but now when I go in reverse and then go forward again the blades will not re engage and then I have to turn the mower completely off, restart it to get the blades moving again! Also, if I sharp turn the blades will stop and will not start again unless I again turn the mower off and back on. It’s a hassle!!! This is new!
Hey Aimee!!! I would change the switch that turns the blades on and off first....Could be one of the drive switches.... But, I'm thinking main switch.... I hope this helps.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
@@nosracsmra6833 I did. After I checked and cleaned all the safety contacts come to find out that all I needed was a new battery. Even though the battery seemed fine and the mower would start right up it was just enough that it could not power the electric clutch even after charging it.
@@simplyscyfygirl2641 this was my suspicion! I’ve already checked wires and everything looks good. I will replace the battery and see if it fixes my problem. Thanks for the quick reply.
Harvey, I own and operate a "I fix your zero turn shop". Lol. Those clutches on those are pretty easy, remove the belt, disconnect the lead connector, then a half inch impact on the bolt. Then reassemble. I'd charge about $45 to do this one plus parts. Price is about right for the clutch, though I have seen other clutches for other makes go for as much as $375. Ouch
My blades engage for 3 minutes, then stop. Rzt50 2007. I've changed all 4 interlock switches on arms and reverse just below them. Still not engaging 3 min after initial cold start. Is this a cool or clutch issue?
My blades stopped engaging after only 10 hours on my Ultima ZT1 42. You inspired me to inspect the clutch and, wow, the ground lead was broken at the connector. There was little or no stress relief in the harness, so I think it broke naturally. What a pain to fix -- wish it had just been a bad switch!
Having the same damn issue with my 2023 Zt1 50 model😬 I just hope it's this easy. The PTO just feels so absurdly limp and pulls in and out by a quarter of an inch and does nothing while idle or driving and engaging it.🙄
thanks for the Video & your knowledge it helps to save a man money & your struggles are real & it helps everyone to know whaat to do straight up thank you & God bless you & yours!!!
I've changed all my switches that engage or disengage blades. My blades engage, then after about 3 minutes they no longer engage. Same issue is occurring after I replaced the 4 interlock switches near arms. The only thing I can think of is either the coil or clutch is going bad. Can you help? And i did replace the engagement knob.
Big help. My cub zero is a 42 inch I think. The key turned on but wont language the starter. Replaced solonoid but didnt change anything. Jumped started with key turned but blades wont engage. So, I opted to take it to mower shop. They, if course, has been sitting on it for going in 2 weeks. Crappy thing with grass not waiting til i can cut it. UGH!
Have you tried something simple like hooking a jumper cable neg clip to the neg post of the battery, then the other end to the frame close to the starter? I did and turned out there wasn’t a good neg connection to the starter. Added an additional neg wire from the battery to the frame near the starter. Starts quick and strong now.
Switch prob fix it , But anytime i see a bad switch , i look for anything melted , Yours looked ok , Or if switch feels like it not switching in side , I try and see how many amps the clutch is using . But if i see or feel heat is involved i suspect clutch drawing to much current . Yours will prob ok , but if goes again then look at clutch draw.
So, if the motor is turned off but I turn the key to the On position and engage the yelloe knob and hear a clicking sound what would be the most likely failed part?
Thank you very much!!! New sub here! Questions: what exhaust pipes (Mufflers) are those?? i want them? Also will any of those four wheeler rims fit on that mower? I get zero traction
New Clutch, New Switch after 15 minutes blades disengage. I can rock it back and forth side to side and that helps after initial disengagement but then stops completely. After cooling down its fine for 15 minutes? Little help here!
Hey Janet, My guess would be the PTO switch also.... The PTO switch is a cheap and easy repair... A broken wire is also easy... Changing the PTO clutch is a expensive and a lot of work!!! Good luck!!!! Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
Blades quit turning while mowing yesterday. Couldn't get reengaged regardless of PTO on/off in attempt. Went to start it this PM and battery dead 1st time. Would the switch drain battery ..or maybe the clutch? ..assuming the PTO is locked on though clutch not engaging? Me dumb.
Did you ever say it was the switch that was bad? Why couldn't you have taken 10 seconds and demonstrated that? The usual cause of the electric clutch PTO not engaging is wear on the engaging plate of the clutch. The plate is able to be adjusted closer to the clutch by tightening 3 spaced bolts on the plate. If you want to test it, just engage the PTO switch and push the levers forward, stop, then forward again. The movement is usually enough to cause the worn clutch plate to engage the clutch, allowing the blades to spin. This happened to me with my 2007 RZT 50, and also with my Deutz-Alis lawn tractor. If you want to reduce clutch plate where, disconnect one of the safety switches on either lever so that the blades will not stop when you are backing up. It is simple to do.

My belt came off with my blades engaged... I turned my mowet off to put the belt back on and it hasn't made a sound since.
Should the mower still start tho even if this switch is bad?
Got a link for the switch Harvey?
If the battery connection are bad that will also cause the clutch to not engage

I was mowing with my Rzt22 and the blades just stopped clutch seems good could it be the pto switch??
