I really hope this doesn't discourage Hoang from doing tournaments in the future. He's such a unique and enjoyable player that even being in a qualifier is enough to bring in the viewers!
I think the hype was a mistake. Its not because Hoang isnt an amazing player, but he never played a tournament before. And hes thrown into the biggest AOE2 event since around the 2000's. Of course he felt pressured and frustrated looking himself 2-0 down just for minor mistakes. And in front you have someone like Daut that has 20 years of experience. I think Hoang should stick for a while to play less popular tournaments to gain confidence and experience before making the jump. Hes really entertaining and hope we can see more of him.
Also, he must TRY other startegies. His usual monk/siege/knights push grows very tiresome. It's good for low level players but pros like DauT or Viper can easily counter it.
@@lalitsinghrana4234 Really? 'Cause the games I saw with both DauT and Viper showed him losing to them. amiir miinavand94 Hera is very high level, but he still needs to play more much like Hoang. When he is paired with the top pros of AOE2, he kinda falls flat.
Well to be honest it was built up because both of these players have been memed for a while now. Problem is that memes aside daut is on a wholeee other level compared to hoang. Also daut is not the type to fall for a strategy that he knows is coming. So altho it was a 'hype' matchup i think that hype came more from the memes around the characters rather than the skill level of the players. That being said what happened for g2 and g3 was unfortunate
I was so so sad for Hoang.. no sheep, then the failed boar.. the way he tried to ungarrison makes me believe he legit faced lag. I hope this was not played in EU because that would be super unfair.
i think it was. I saw in the multiplayer lobby 'daut vs huaong' and daut was in the channel it was locked by password. So i think daut was waiting for him and created the game. That means it was in the EU.
This is what I was looking forward to. It seems a bit unfair to Hoang. Those sheep were unusually far. Please arrange a Daut vs Hoang showmatch before hidden cup to satisfy us all. Same map, same two civs. 👌
Awwwwww You should make TheHuong an alias in the main event... if he cant be there in person he can be in spirit ;-) also who knows it might inspire some epic bullshit
I watched the full thing on twitch. I'm very proud of Hoang. Awesome game 1. Super exciting all of the militia between them. I hope he competes more in the future, he's my favorite player :)
SPOILERS: Ohhh nooo, I'm feeling so bad for Hoang :( You always say, that his attitude is that he doesn't care about tournaments and just wants to play, but he obviously didn't even want to play anymore.. This is just so sad. And I was so hyped for this showdown, too. I hope this doesn't discourage him to play in other future tournaments. Love for Hoang, you couldn't be the best in your gameplay, but you're the best in our hearts
@Ben Norton Well, he did. It's not like he was wildcarded in, he got in fair and square. And that he's terrible in your eyes: Well, that's just like.. your opinion, man
@Ben Norton Additionally: You should know his attitude. He's not there to win, he's there to play. But if he's discouraged that much, that he doesn't even want to play that's just a sad thing in my opinion and I wanted to spread the love for an unfortunate guy. You instead are spreading the hate. He's already out, so there's no reason to bash on him any further. Much less to argue against a fanbase, that the player they like is terrible. Hoang will still be awesome for the most of us
@Ben Norton he was playing from vietnam on EU server. Obviously the LAG kills him from effectively playing the game, and microing (even luring boar, scouting sheep). He's very high rated ranked player, this is HIS FIRST tournament, that bullshit far away sheep combined with LAG might hinder him from playing tournament again. Too bad cuz he had unique playstyle
@Ben Norton So what? A lot of people share my opinion, too, so that argument doesn't really hold water. Also calling someone terrible and invalidating his achievements until now (like his legit qualifying to the qualifiers) is no criticism, that's just bad mouthing. And exactly, he is no big stage player, this was his first experience + he was up vs. DauT, someone who could've justified to be in the already qualified 8. Of course there was huge pressure on him. It's not about maturity, it's about experience keeping the cool which somebody with no competetive attitude probably doesn't have (+ the rumor of lag, but since it's a rumor I don't really count that as a point). Again, it's your free choice to not like him / his playstyle, but it's just rude of you to assume you're justified to incompetently criticize / insult him, because he has high exposure. Especially not as a new comment, but directly answering someone that is feeling bad for the guy and wishes him the best is pretty troll-y. Where does that shitty attitude come from? Maybe you should start to grow up and instead of tearing the community apart you should try to show sportsmanship and be happy that there are people like Hoang that are obviously good for the community growth as well as pushing the meta boundaries
It was disappointing but round 1 was really good and genuinely fun. That being said I can understand why hoang quit, he just gg'd in round 2 due to failing to catch a boar. And yup... As entertaining as he is, Hoang didn't have any real chance against daut. At 2-0 it was just over.
I understand why hoang doesn't do tournaments despite being really good at the game. it's not like everyone likes competition. tournaments, like this, are stressful. and that stress can kill any fun you have in a game. he doesn't have fun because he wins. he's just having fun with the game, and it just so happens that he often wins. his rating most likely doesn't matter to him at all. the only reason he has a high rating at all is to get into games with strong players, as they're more likely to make his games more fun. because it's not fun if you win every time. tournaments aren't about having fun though, they're about winning at all costs while hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people watch. I'm lucky enough to not suffer from stage fright, and *I could never do that*. that's so incredibly not-fun that, if I went into a big tournament like this and lost 2 games in a row to minor mistakes (especially that second game), I'd probably stop playing the game, at least for a good while. I just hope hoang takes this in stride and doesn't feel too bad. you really need some kind of resistance to tournaments to be able to partake in them. wins are stressful, ties are draining, and defeats are soul-crushing. not everyone can treat a tournament match the same way they treat normal matches. that takes years of playing in tournaments to get used to. it's not for everybody.
I think so too, Hoang should just stick to whatever he likes to do. That is the same strategy in every game. Daut is still a top10 AoE2 player, there's no real point for Hoang to compete with him.
@T90, for your next tournament you should leave one spot in the finals open for a 'wild card' -- a player from the losing qualifiers, who you think deserves a second chance. Or maybe it could be by public vote, or a vote from among the finalists, etc.?? It could be used to bring in either a high quality player who just got unlucky, or maybe a player who will shake things up, or be entertaining. I think it would be for the betterment of the tournament. Just something to consider. Can't wait to watch the finals live on stream :D
Honestly gutting turn of events for Hoang. Been really enjoying your casts of his matches though, his style is so different and fun to watch. Hopefully he keeps trying to break into the competitive scene
Did Hoang gather the boar with enough vills such that they only need to make one trip to the TC? In that case it shouldn't really matter about getting the boar under the TC, right?
Villagers carry too much food from boars. So you need to drop off food very often with them. That is why they lure them under the TC. So they can drop it instantly
@@ichigoblackTWD Yeah, I guess you're right. Even with 11 vills gathering as Hoang does it would take 75 seconds to gather all of the food, long enough for 3 villagers to be produced. With only 3 vills on berries (~1 food/s) he would've had to send the hunters back early to avoid idle time.
aw man... that really sux for hoang. I've lost count on how many vills i've lost to boars or how many boars i've lost to tc fire. i usually garrison my weak vill and right click the boar so when i ungarisson he already starts shooting or hunting and sometimes the last arrow comes from the tc between commands
Time for the main event!!! What a power move for Daut to open Celts though lol. Edit: After I watched, 😭😭 Nooooooo! Hoang! Noooooo 😭😭 Hoang don't give up we still believe in you!
T90. That final match was played on EU from what we can see...a few commenters brought that out. That really could've messed him over with split second lag for that boar lure. That server choice could've decided that game. Is there any possibility of a re?
Not to be harsh, but Hoang is a meme. That's all he is (for now). This set proved it. Anyone remember his showmatch during the 24-hour stream against Metal, who didn't even qualify for this tournament, in which Metal destroyed him? Now put him against one of the greatest AOEII players of all time (no memes, DauT has been that good for that long), in his first ever tournament, which happens to be a preliminary stage for the sequel to the tournament that drew seventeen thousand viewers at its peak, and what did you think would happen? As unique and entertaining a player as Hoang is, and as capable as he can be, those gimmicks simply won't cut it against the best of the best. I sincerely hope he learns to diversify his playstyle.
@@whisperwalkful Hoang plays from vietnam on EU server, so it favors Daut. Obviously LAG combined with bullshit sheep positioning kills him from ever playing tournament ever again
This entire day was really unsatisfying to watch, as was most of the qualifiers so far. There have been some really good sets, such as Project Belgium vs Rubenstock, Tim vs Angelina Jolie, and Zuppi v Lyx, but as a whole most of the sets have been really one sided. I have no doubt that HC3 will be incredible, but I and others expected most sets to be closer, and it just seemed that some players weren't prepared at all
The qualifier was not well done this time. The skill gap between the players is HUGE and all good players are in different brackets. Last time it was 16 (I think) good players fighting for 2 spots. Real competition. This time 32 players (of which about 20 never had a chance) fight for 8 spots.
I think it is good though that many players get the chance to try and refresh a bit the scene. And the fact that most really good players will qualify the 32 round means also interesting games in the 16 round for the 8 spots. I think it is a good decision to open the professional scene to more people, some of them will probably be even more motivated in the future.
@@ΘαλλέλαιοςΣκορδέτος I'm really happy that T90 opened it up for so many people, as usually tournaments are just between the same 12-16 players. I hope that the players that didnt perform as well as might have been expected in these qualifiers dont take it too hard, and instead use it as an opportunity to grow. The fact that the qualifiers were a bit disappointing doesnt mean that I didnt like the idea of them
@@CornBredCrusader Strongly disagree. It was a bad decision resulting in not competitive games, and it will for sure not happen again. It pretty obvious T90 himself is not excited about most series himself.
@@zaptosmedia4707 Of course that would happen, it's the first tournament with a big qualifier. Hopefully the competition will rise for the next tournament qualifiers. The idea isn't for qualifiers to provide the big entertainment, they are just qualifiers. The real entertainment will come from the HC3 itself.

@@jamaicanlumberjack It's banned because the straggler trees around the TC can be used for economy. You would be removing a resource from the other player.
Love Hoang’s style, so it was a pity to see him drop out. That said, for some people, tournament style play just isn’t their thing. I know I don’t play much at the moment because I don’t have time to commit to getting good, and losing all the time isn’t fun at all. Hope to keep seeing his games in future.

2 games in 29 minutes.... lets see how this plays out.
Oh and there ya have it
What the hell did I just watch?!
Hoang.
How long do you guys usually wait on Ranked Queue for a match on DE??
1-3 min, mostly around 1:30-2min unusually 4 min
Hoang i salute you! So unique, so entertaining
Thats why you should never try to Hunt boars, just use the berry and you are fine.
Does hoang stream too? Where can we find him?
Why isn't this video on the Hidden Cup 3 Playlist?
Omg omg I cant even. I'm simultaneously scared and excited for the outcome
Well, I'm sorry for you
Under 20min for a best of 5
and i thought this was only 1 game...
dumb question but what is pallisading straggler trees and why is it banned?
Ben B once a straggler tree is chopped, you can place a palisade wall or any other building on its tile space to clear the space. I assume it’s banned because it is a cheeky way to punch a hole in a wall without much effort.
@@jamaicanlumberjack It's banned because the straggler trees around the TC can be used for economy. You would be removing a resource from the other player.
How is it that you always have some tournament with nice pools, but when i play this goddam masterpiece no one is actually playing? :(
Paolo Thomson maybe your game is broken, there is always a decent amount of people online
Ayyy time for some Castles! :)
Oh, man. I watched this live and still fill bad for pour Hoang...
lol thumbnail daut looks a bit like traditional serbian garb. im from serbia too so this caught me by surprise. put a šajkača on daut next time !
In the qualifiers are hidden too?
21:25 LOOOOOL
i dont get it. what happened
Robbed, free win.
That is giving DauT way too little merit, he played amazingly the first game.
21:28 feels bad man
LETS GO DAUTI
edit: yea that was... funny but sad
So hype for hc3
All i hear is: HOOOaang hhoooaang in this video
Hesitation is Defeat!
Daut didn’t even get a chance to daut castle at all.
Hey T90, pls put the video into the HC3 playlist.
It is in the playlist :)
@@T90Official thanks :)
Hoang, if you're out there. SALUTE. Hope to see you play more tourneys.
We still love Hoang! 💪 The favorite for some of us
Say let's go 1 more time. Oh god
I want to see Hoang plays the HC this time but he didn't make it..feelsadman 😢
Edit: x2 sad because of the connection
Me tooo. I bet other players would always be scared of a sudden push😭
Hoang Koang from VIETNAM! HOAAAAH!
That's disappointing - Me watching this best of 5 after getting really hyped.
