Wow! I followed along with every step and click... I learned more in 22 minutes than in hours of trial-and-error. Thank you!!!

The third tutorial where you add joinery is where the magic really happens. Best of luck!

I really appreciated your detailed instruction & starting with sawhorses. As a new owner of SketchUp, I've spend the last two days fighting with various tutorials and timber frame SketchUp builds with some frustration. This is exactly what I needed and really look forward to the next videos. Two Thumbs Up!

Glad to hear it helped. One of the videos has poor sound quality (maybe #5). I just haven’t had a chance to redo it.

Thank you very much for this tutorial! I’ll need this skill for my future small timber frame cabin, and hopefully for all my builds. All the best to you, Sir!

    For a pair of these:
    1- 6”x6”x8’ timber
    2- 4”x6”x10’ timbers
Just dropping this here so I can find it again when I go timber shopping. Might save someone a minute searching for how many timbers they need.

This is a response to Neal P. For some reason his comment didn’t appear in the thread.
    Neal’s words “
    Neal P
Hello. THis is great instruction, Thanks. However, I can't get the arc to Push/Pull. I created the tie as a component and measured 2" for the guide and created the arc, but when I triple click the arc does not turn blue and will not push/pull out. Not sure what I am doing wrog.”
My response is…you need to open the component (triple click on the tie) before you draw the curve otherwise you are just drawing a 2-dimensional arc rather than a curve on a 4” thick tie. So in effect, you can’t push/pull a 2-d line, so the curve needs to be part of a 3-d object (component), so you must open the component, then layout and draw your arc, which you should then be able to push/pull that section. Hope it works for you.

Hi, thanks for these vids. 1 question, when you copy a component, say the base...do you have to make the copy a component?

    • @bigbeamstimberframes770

Assuming you mean repeat “make component” no. When using the move copy tool, once you’ve made a copy no further action is required. If however, you want to edit one of them (the original or the copy) and not the other, then you need to triple click the one you want to edit, then right click and select “make unique.” Once you do that you can edit either one while not changing the other.
