- Content's been scarce this month. I thought I was going to get an easy dead-cap repair out of this HP, but it punked me and magically came back to life.

This shows the reality of the repairs at times. It was actually refreshing to see. Don't let it bother you, was still good.
I just love unedited and uncut repairs. No matter how long they are.
I really like this format. Seems more real. 😀
You win me over that you can keep track of all those screws in the first place. Your confidence and competence is always worth watching.
As you also said, I was also expecting a short at the power in MOSFET. "Was there learning from this?" Yes there was... A reminder that sometimes disassembly and reassembly is all it takes (again, as you said). Been there, done that, several times... and yes, it is damn frustrating too.
There is learning in everything to be fair, i had the same when i was upgrading my desktop about a year ago. New mobo, cpu and RAM, and the damned thing was stone cold dead, just nothing. And for the life of me i couldn't figure out what was wrong. I reset the bios, checked all cable's and connections re-seated the RAM and cpu and just about anything i could think of, stil nothing. So i disasemble'd the whole damned thing, checking for anything i might have done wrong along the way (of witch i found none). Put it back together with a hope and a prayer, and it just came good for no appearent reason. #computerthings
@@sindreskjelbostad2101 I've been there too. As a teen I had an intuition of what my friends or people screwed up. I had people come to my doorstep with their PCs and the power supply was turned off by it's button... I had people that had assembled their pcs and had standoffs behind the motherboard where there were no screw-holes so they were shorting the motherboard. I had people with problematic power supplies. I had people connecting the cables wrong or forgetting about some. Then there's me upgrading from an Athlon dual-core that worked well to an used i7 2600k that still works awesome in games for someone to this day, that was an amazing CPU. So my Athlon dual-core worked well, I pulled-off the mobo with CPU, installed the used-new mobo and CPU, moar ram, put the cables, no sign of life, wtf.exe. Troubleshoot and found nothing. Disconnected and reconnected the system again and nothing. The 3rd time it went off and kept working. No damn reason...
You say there is no learning to be had from this video but for me it is the perfect: "how to open these awful bloody HP things to get to the BIOS battery"-tutorial that I would have needed last October. :)
I love the humor! And the fixing too! I really like the way you explain things. It helps me understand the way things work while I do repairs. This is still a win-win video for me.😆 Thanks for posting!
A real day in the life of Graham Lord. So you do organise the screws you remove. I thought you must have some super power to pick the right screw from a pile on the desk:)
Only recently started doing it actually, and main reason is so I've got a tray to hold the screws if the laptop gets moved off the bench while it awaits repairs. I still wing-it half the time!
Enjoyed this format... Please try this format again, informative, entertaining, and so enjoyable 👏
Grahm, this was a good one, first it shows you are human, :-) and it was good training how sometimes the issue may fix it's self just by refitting all the items in it.. Not a waste of time.
I agree with other people here, thats how computer repair is! I would carry on with this way, at least for some videos. Great stuff!
the HP Probook and EliteBook's are notorious for "No Power" symptoms when in actual fact all you need to do is remove the battery, remove the power cable and just press the power button a couple of times to drain any remaining voltage in the caps - plug it back in and turn it back on, 99.99% of the time it cures this sort of issue : Source, i used to support a fleet of 500+ Probooks and HP EliteBook 840 G5 & G6's and we used to get this all the time.
Enjoyed the video very much. It was not a bust. Shows what can happen in computer repair. Always something to learn.😊
Channeling Alan Rickman in Galaxy Quest at the end - priceless!
Great video showing how much work is being done off camera and how tedious dissassembly could be. When you look at some videos, where everything goes smoothly, you may think "what am I paying those repair guys for" - this video is the answer to that 😁
It's true we do enjoy you're waffleing.. as you put it. 😂
Just a typical day and a life of a repair man, no need to be sheepish.
Great way of setting the cameras, you nailed it! Thanks for the video!
Awesome video Graham. I actually liked the format of it.
Im loving the rawness of this unedited video, keep them coming 🙂
I'm enjoying this just for the extended "how to" disassemble! Many thanks!
Raw, nice!
Do more of these 😀
Hi, I really appreciate your videos whether it’s a rough cut, repairs, review or builds, I just love watching your content and look forward to seeing what you come up with. I would really like to see some more build videos like the old days. I watch a few US based content but there’s not enough UK based content creators, there’s you and eteknix. In any case, great videos and keep up the good work.
don't worry about the quad layout. by the magic of ultra hd we're actually getting a 1080p picture of the laptop, and also a 1080p picture of black capture card xD
Hi Graham, I am enjoying this video. Maybe you feel unscrewing is boring but not to me 😂 it's lovely seeing the entire process
So you know, I am an electronic designer and been working in IT for 45 years, was involved with the design of much of what we uses these days back in the early 1980s 😃
I keep expecting more ppbus g3 hot antics...the one live stream where he asked Caradog 'have you prayed to your lord and savior ppbus g3 hot' did it for me. I DIED laughing.
Not gonna lie, I liked watching you struggle a little bit 🤣
You have MAGIC hands. They fix without even finding a fault. WOW. 🤣😁
I actually liked that video - gives some insight to how you work, I always learn from what you show. I vote that you do one of these every so often. Of course plan for it so it's not scarry and I love the title.
I personally liked this format. More informal, it's nice. I think you could add this type of videos to the content along with the edited ones no problem.
I'd like to when possible. I was lucky to only have a single phone call interrupt me on this one, but it's hard to do a whole video in one go without interruptions.
I had a similar repair fix a while ago; neighbor brought over his new Big Box Store desktop - said it wasn't turning on. I inspected everything outside/inside; everything looked legit. However, after trying different options, I decided to "re-attach" all the cables and re-seat the memory sticks. Upon closer inspection, I realized the 24-pin power connector was slightly off; all I had to do was re-connect the 24-pin cable and - BINGO! PC back to normal.
Don't fret. It's just an example that a bad connection can be fixed by disassembly/reassembly, happens all the time. Definitely and enjoyable video.
Nice idea to split view on 4 ... you can use also this format on future just doing some cuts
Hehehe i don't care if there is no edit, just love to watch the repairs. You gave me the convidence to go for bios chip programming and it saved a few allready :)
I have an HP very much like this one and the hinges a bit loose so I tried pulling it apart a couple of days ago. Ended up putting it back together when I couldn't _rip_ the bottom off it and was going to find a RUclips video on how to do disassembly successfully. Great video for me Graham so *Thank You* for that.
I thought the quad view looked alright and I have a 15.6" screen. 👍
Watching you unscrewing is quite soothing.
The amount of times I've gone to look at a computer that "Wasn't working" but then worked as soon as I turned it on....
It's maddening to the point of exasperation the number of screws, it sounds incredible that one would first have to overcome the animosity caused before even starting the disassembly. Stupid design of that HP model.
On the other hand, as a loyal subscriber I don't care if the video is edited or not, the important thing is the content. (15:56) The images shown by the microscope are amazing (fabulous sharpness). (19:08) That smile on your face said it all (you have all the luck on you and you should buy a British lottery ticket). Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.
Really good clarity on the cameras.
More Disrespected! Yay. Thank you.
I really like this quad layout format. Very immersive
I love these types of videos this is all realistic and human!
Nice video, luv this very funny too, thanks for your time.
It came in to be fixed, you fixed it, job done!
LOLZ. It was good. Real life stuff... I like it. Cheers Graham.
More screws than the prison service
Got to love those old HP’s a nightmare to work on 😀
Didn’t even think about the “disrespected” tie in. I watch on a TV for entertainment, I’ll never try to fix a laptop.
I also watch South Main Auto Repair vids because of his ability to diagnose problems(usually computer-related). Sometimes, a problem that manifests in the engine compartment ends up being in the boot...
I think they cover those screws, because they are connected to the hinge and are more likely to become lose and fall out. I've had no end of missing hinge screws that then causes the hinge/case to brake.
I really think, it was a good video showing how computer repair can be.
I had a laptop come in, that needed a ssd upgrade. When installing a new Windows system on it, i noticed it had a wonky charger cable / charging port. But they only wanted the ssd upgrade.
Then a month later, it came back because it was dead. Diagnose: No Power.
Expecting the charger port to be bad, i took the laptop apart and check the charger port. It looked fine, had a perfect fit with the charger cable. Tested fine. Charger tested fine.
Checked the motherboard, came out fine.
Thought that was weird, and put it back together and decided to give up. For laugh i put the charger cable back in it, when it was finally back together. Wouldn´t you believe it, it came back to life and worked perfect since.
"Disrespected Nose" - why? No idea, I have only been an MCM subscriber for 5 years or so.
Edit: Actually I started watching MCM when I started following Project Binky by Bad Obsession Motorsport which is half a lifetime ago.
Had a similar one - unplugged and re inserted battery and laptop worked - Client confirmed they did the same but did not work - laptops are weird sometimes
Pure gonzo repair! Love it!
hey bud just to let you know great vid lots of laughs
i love MCM! and i love your channel *big heart*
I liked the change looks more real :)
You always feel better omce you are at the doctor's office =)
waffling videos sooth the soul
Great Graham .. RAW Balls to the Wall vids are Great ,,, Cheers Sir
Fixed by your handsomeness alone :)
A video is better than silence brother
The lesson here is don’t fall in to tunnel vision when you think you know what the issue is and always do the simple troubleshooting steps first.
Great video Graham. Personally I prefer the unedited videos. Its real!!
I liked the unedited video. 🙂
I've worked on a few of these and there are a ridiculous number of chassis screws and the weirdest case construct. Its a puzzle unless you follow someone elses RUclips teardown 😏. As ever, great content Graham
Please can you do another updated servicing video? I know it’s mostly the same things but I got so much useful information from the last one you did years ago.
This might be bittersweet, but I really enjoyed the real time feeling of this video and the quad format was actually comfortable. If you were doing something specific, I could watch that quadrant. but if you were just speaking, I could watch you. It made for a more realistic flow. I felt like I was sitting across from you as you worked. 🤷♀
That was funny...loved it
Sometimes they're all hung up and removing the battery and power "fixes" them. Watched it completely anyways, entertaining as always.
Still easier to open the chassis than the ProBook I had 14 years ago.
Always watch everything in 2x as I got so much to watch every day.
If I miss like 4 or 5 days I got like 70 to 100 to watch so....
"Time is money" 😋
I used to do computer repair over the phone with people. Always, the first thing I would have them do is reboot. As anybody who works on pc's knows, it is amazing how often that fixed the problem.
Can't be mad at this no edit hero post, because even if there isn't a targeted lesson on how to fix something, there is always the mental process of where to start and what to look for.
17:29 im pray for that every day when im repearing audio amplifiers 🙃🙃🙃
i would watch you no mater in what order you released i do enjoy all your videos
HP probooks and elitebooks are prone to BIOS EEPROM errors after 8000 hours of use. Sometimes it only needs reflash when it's still booting - and new battery.
Nice fix :-)
Learning that sometimes there is nothing to learn is still learning something about computers. It happened to me many times even if there is nothing magic once the trouble is gone you only have suppositions.
This is a special one!
worked on these. it is the top and it’s relatively easy.
I had a particular Line short circuit fault that only occurred a few times. Trouble is Short circuit can be usually tracked down WITH evidence somewhere ,but these ones I am thinking of cleared up as soon as i broke the line voltage from exchange to Customer. I had massive experience in all matter of why faults occurred on copper network but these few had no evidence. The only thing possible was in the Trunk Network or overseas
I've had this happen to me with desktop PCs. No post, I finally remove the motherboard after suffering for a whole day and it posts fine on my workbench. Put it back together for it to immediately boot into windows. Computers are weird.
hello Graham I love watching your channel I have learned a lot from you ,I have a question i have a Sony VAIO i turn it on I get nothing on the screen i have replaced the motherboard and the LCD Screen and the LCD Screen cable so I am stumped as to what the problem I can connect it to a separate monitor via HDMI cable and i get video that way with no problem the laptop boots up to windows but i get nothing on the screen I have tried to reseat the CPU the memory and still nothing. Any ideas as to what the problem may be.
you have the magic touch then
You're right, you should have pressed the power button first before disassembling.. and if it still not powering on, maybe removing the battery or power connector might have caused it to power on.. just maybe..
I long time ago I had this on a TV. Came in with 'no power" complaint. I started right away checking the power supply and the power switch, but everything seemed okay. After that, I turned on the TV and it worked perfectly. When we picked up this TV at the owner's house it had a 'no power' actually. We didn't double-check that at the shop. So It had 'repaired' itself by transporting it to the shop. Very weird. Regards Nico.
Twitching fan in desktop or laptop in my experience is likely charged up with static or grounded somewhere in the board, ic bios or something still maybe in floating, and discharging the board or cmos reset always fix it 😅
If even the trackpad is faulty on these hp laptops it can refuse to do anything. Just removing the battery and putting it back normally lets these start again. Ive had 1 with a stepped on trackpad that stopped working and sometimes didn't do anything. After replacing the trackpad it all problems were gone.
I have a sudden and overwhelming desire to check if all my cables are properly and securely connected and confirm my input device is on.
Very few laptops still have removable battery so you can forget to try to pull it off and on...
I like the oddball videos.
There seems to be more BIOS issues with newer laptops these days however this patient is an older model due to removable battery and thick chassis. Its a indication that all things in repair shop are not cut and dry repairs. Shows what one can run into if you do this every day.
Maybe if you get a customer who brings in a no-post-computer... that works when you fire it up ...maybe an explanation of why they brought it in?
You'd be perfect for Villiager voices.
Also I was wondering if your video title was an MCM reference and I was right lol!!!
Did the arm your digital microscope is connected to come with the microscope? I have a digital microscope like yours but the stand it comes with sucks. Do you have the model for the arm or a link to where I get one like it?
another MCM fan here.. good title
do you know if the HP G62 is strictly a dual core motherboard, or is it a power supply issue? I bought an i7 720QM quad core but the led on the power button blinks. Any help would be appreciated.
Hiding screws under rubber stops keeps the customers out. The days of do-it-yourself electronics repair are long over. You are too young to remember when you could take all the tubes out of your TV or radio and take them to a public tube tester at a store where they also sold tubes. At 66 I'm old enough to remember those. (We had those in the US, I assume Britain did too in the 60s and early 70s).
