- This MacBook Air looked like it was going to be a tough one with no obvious faults, but sometimes the more you look, the easier it gets.

Entirely unrelated to the video, but I had a small win today, which was thanks to my viewership of this channel.
Bought a Ryzen 3600X off of a friend to upgrade on my 2600. Check my motherboards website and it did say it supported the CPU, but I neglected to check BIOS versions. I installed the CPU today and gave it some time for RAM training but had no luck with it firing. I put the 2600 back in and check BIOS details and realised that was exactly the issue. Braved the BIOS update throught the motherboards BIOS and it updated from online nice and smooth all by itself! Put the 3600X back in and with some RAM training, it booted up fine! Very satisified with my work, but 100% something I learnt from this channel.
Of course we wanna hear your Voice. Mate has one of the best voice commentaries on RUclips repair channels.
however
Your voice is literally why I have your vids running as a background when I work. So soothing and british :D
great job, Graham. really appreciate the cleaning montage, not many repair guys are willing to do the cleaning, simply because it's not their job, obviously...
Before I retired a detailed cleaning was always part of the repair before returning to the customer.
not only a good voice but he explains everything clearly and slowly
Yeah I do wanna hear more of your voice. It is rather relaxing not to mention you are very clever and what you don't know about computers isn't worth knowing.
I enjoyed the really detailed microscope view of corrosion. 😁
I was livid when I realised at editing that I didn't have the microscope shot for that. Very nearly threw out the video, but there was enough left to finish it.
@@Adamant_IT I'm glad you keep the video, always nice to see what you're up to, plus I found your Twitch channel, I'll have to find some time to hop over there some time!
Great work and great advice. Just a thought but the UK had an exceptionally hot summer this year and that means lots of sweat - salty water. It's a little late but corrosion takes time and I wonder if that might have been the source of the corrosion? The trackpad is where sweat might pool.
"Dust doesn't stop things working" --- try plugging in a second hand power supply choked with dust and then settle the heart rate after an enormous bang that takes out all the power in the house. Then tell me again how innocent huge clumps of dust are.
I thought the channel name was pronounced *'Adam Ant I-T'* which, I think, is a comic book hero.
Another good one. I always stay for the cleaning.😊
Splash zone + laptop + Glad Wrap = no problem.
Just don't wrap over the ventilation holes
Eric
You are a pretty funny dude. And thank you for your efforts. Cheers.
A repair and a workshop tour!
Exellent job graham
To minimize liquid damage to a laptop exposed to a splash area. I have covered my keyboard and trackpad with plastic food wrap.
Easy fix but not easy to find.
Good job on the slow cautious approach (instead of jumping in with soldering iron).
Brilliant exposition and commentary,
i just recently fix macbook air 2015 by changing that cable the only difference in mine was it was turning on with power cable but not when battery connected, but it was charging battery wierd , but i had trackpad cable corroded same like yours , nice video by the way 👍
nicely done
Love it. Almost makes me wish my MacBook would fail so I can take it apart. But not quite.
Hey Adam l bought a DJI Mavic Pro from eBay with a front facing sensor error although the drone flies it still needed to be sorted in the end easy fix
I've no idea what you just did but I'm impressed.
I have been watching this channel for about 6 months and you don't half learn quickly from it.
I love the faqct that you save so much from going to the skip. in this throwaway world we need better solutions.
wish i'd found your channel a few months ago - been sitting on a failing Air that would only start up on adapter connect when battery removed or flat. had it apart and couldn't see anything obvious. ended up stripping it to bits and selling for parts, would have loved to get it going
@Mr Guru yeah just don't like Mac's , got good money for the parts so not that bothered lol
Am i imagining things but between your Blog and old Rossman blogs Macbook Airs sweat a lot. Is it something to do with design of enclosure or quick cool down problem or users dropping them in backpacks and rain ?
I recognize the "Bed Head" look =)
Just wondering, what is the make and model of the LCD microscope you are using?
I need help. Macbook Air a1466 820-00165 2017 just stopped turning on. When charging is connected, the green light and immediately orange light up. The fan is not spinning. Motherboard without any visible defects. DC-in I / O board with traces of soldering (damn, the laptop was bought at the official Apple store), unwashed flux and traces of overheating are visually visible. After inspection, the flux was washed.
I ran a little on the motherboard. Found no voltage on PP3V3_SUS. The processor is warm.
How can I test the DC-in I/O board? To avoid breakage
What is this exact mat you are using? I like the size and the design a lot. 🙂
Never ceases to amaze me how filthy some laptops are, I'm not even really a particular person , but wow. Splash zone = Panasonic Toughbook. No problem.
Amazing stuff!!! what's the intro song?
Another text book mate. It could be me. One thing I also do is to put it on it's side and use a toothbrush to get more of the hairs and that out of the keyboard. Usually dandruff hehe.
Hi AdamantIT. Thanks for your channel.
Would you mind telling what kind of solution you use in your ultrasonic cleaner please.
I use deionised water and an electronics flux removal fluid I found on Amazon👌
Hi Adam! Hope all is well. I am working on a Macbook Air A1466 820-00165 -A. What if there is no voltage on the PPBUS G Hot Fuse? I lack some experience on Macbooks so what would be the next obvious step? Sorry for asking! Thanks in advance!
What's the name of the song that starts playing at 17:00? Tried to identify it with the AHA Music Chrome extension (usually identifies unspecified tracks I hear in streams/videos), but unfortunately it can't recognise it.
Fandom musician, Synthis, I used a lot of his stuff in the earlier days. He used to make great 'doodles' that were song concepts, I use them for the intro and some of the fill-music: samsynthis.tumblr.com/post/116279235331/i-might-try-to-make-a-quick-little-thing-like-this
Lovin the hair on this one lol
What type of microscope your working with am interested in your tools and repair also for my shop it could be useful
Could? Why?
what software are you using to check the board schematics? it looks awesome
It’s called Flexboard View, by another repair tech called Paul Danials
Nice work. Don't understand why people treat their stuff so dirty
Ever use deoxit?
Love the videos!
What schematic program do you use?
There’s a lot of smuts and grubbiness on that board to start corrosion
How come it has an orange light without the battery? I mean, what is it charging if no battery is plugged in?
I'm not actually sure, this is normal behaviour, but I've never looked into why it says it's charging when the mobo will know that there's no batt connected.
Hi, can you tell me the name of software who you use for boardviews and schematics? Thank you!
I use FlexBV: pldaniels.com/flexbv/
A free alternative is Open Board Viewer, but FlexBV has a lot of very useful extra features/quality of life improvements.
@@Adamant_IT Thanks a lot! But the program has no a database with schematics and boardviews. Can you tell me what is included in purchase version because I downloaded a some free version from official website? Thanks!
You'll need to find the schematics and board views yourself, but these are a google search away. "820-00165 schematic", second result is a free download that only requires you to sign up for a free forum account.
I thought cable was corroded?
the cleaning part is the best part. I love to watch men cleaning ;)
17:07 is that a custom tune just for your channel or is it an actual song?
Yes.
@@ShainAndrews Yes what?
@@sbrewski27 Question to your answer it is.
I only come here for the cleaning montage 🎉
I just clicked on the link for Saturday's podcast but found an old (11 days ago) podcast. Nothing for Saturday the 22nd.
Yea we weren't on last weekend, but we'll be back this Sat!
@@Adamant_IT OK, thanks
I don't mind your voice at all, why? Because you are a cool dude! Now you know :)
I see you use Tesco glass cleaner. I use another brand, called B.U.G.G.E.R. which apparently stands for Best Universal Grit Grime and Effluent Remover. So if Tesco won't clean it, BUGGER it.
I use a hammer for work, it's a tool yes. if I don't look after that tool it doesn't do its job.
Rotfl!!!! That should be Apple's company motto! "Should be better!" Lmao!!!!!!!
have ever had a computer you could not fix?
Why are we judging where and how customers use their laptop? It's just a tool for getting stuff done. For most people this thing means nothing else and that's fair enough.
It's a point of interest to me - how does the damage happen? What can be done to prevent it? If it's used in a way where damage is likely, is there any advice I can give to the customer to minimise risk?
Honestly, I just can't stand when people don't take care of their expensive toys. It's one thing if you have a completely accidental spill (though, of the people I've known personally, probably 90% of those are preventable as well.) But crud and filth built up over time like so many of the laptops you work on...I just don't understand people. Especially when they're expensive, status-symbol Macs. I look forward to the first video where the thing is so nasty you finally charge someone a cleaning fee as others have suggested you do for extreme cases.
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, like in this video I was like "maybe this is a kitchen laptop..." but some customers I'm ruthless and will tell them "this is filthy you need to take better care of it or it'll break."
Did you just get out of bed?
No... been up all day. Why?
@@ShainAndrewsBecause it looks like he has bed head, lol
plastic wrap
Graham, you should get a clean device brought by the customer. Demands it. Dirty? You do not repair. It is not good for the health to put the hands on dirty things like you do every day. Really.
Why?
I just want to use opportunity to put second comment :D
