Hail. Your vids are probably the best historical time capsule available regarding marshals snd celestions. You can read the books or play the albums but your vids give perspective. I hope lots of collectors invite you over more often. Respect!
Thank you sooooo much for the short 53 sec of intro...and then 'playing' the entire rest of the video. I'm SO tired of people that won't shut up and play!! lol. Great video...extraordinary collection. Thanks so much for posting.
All the '67 era amps seem to have something extra at least to my ears. Super clarity plus nice compression and saturation. The tone of those amps also seems more balanced, a little less nasal than some of the later amps. You even got the light shade rocking at 7:03, lol. Great job Johan and thanks for sharing this Marshall experience with us all.
Now that is how to examine the tone of an amp-no effects or studio-type tweaks. Just plug in and play-chords and single lines. Good stuff. Incredible selection of primo Marshall vintage heads.
Man, all of the late 60s models sound incredible to me, but Kossoff's amp is just beautiful. That tone when you hit the 10th fret is so rich. Thanks for your awesome channel man. You've inspired me to love tone again by the quality of your playing and your ability to dial in great tones and mic effectively.
Wow! Fantastic Job! This video is quite a treat for Marshall folks, thanks so much for doing this. This may be my favorite RUclips vid ever! You're playing was perfect for how I like to hear Marshalls, and very balanced amp to amp.
This is a great service to mankind. This was the kinda material lacking in ytube regarding plexi differences. I finally got the difference between a jtm and a jmp. Again ur a most valuable asset sir. Tks for ur kindness and time.
Most of them sound similar, but the JTM45's and the PA's sound a lot thicker. My personal favourites from this were the 1967's. Fantastic demo man, was absolutely awesome to watch!
Honestly I would be happy to have ANY of these amps at all, but I think the 66 JTM45/100 Super PA, 69 Super Lead, and 67 Super Bass did it the most for me though Kossoff's amp is certainly special as he's one of my favorites. In any case I could listen to you play through any of them all day long
Hi Johan, I wanted to thank you for providing videos with a real reference to Marshall plexi's. So many newer amps claim to have the "plexi" tone, but you provide us with great quality demos of real Marshall plexi from the 60's. I'm currently building an amp with plexi specs and using your videos as a reference point because I personally haven't heard a real plexi in person. Again, thank you for your time and effort In Your videos!
1969 Super Lead and amp II, wow! Amp I has a little more edge, amp II is a little more middy, but... wow! Third choice would be 1967 50W Lead, well balanced tone. But, I was born in 1969 and I like Super Lead amp I from that year some more...!!! Nice comparison!
I have played and owned a lot of Marshalls and really enjoyed this and Thanks to everyone involved for doing this. IMO the YJM100 in the future will be considered one of the best heads Marshall released.
+JIMJAMSC Thanks! Glad to hear it. Hopefully there will be an YJM100 demo here soon. A really cool amp with auto biasing and all. And of course Yngwie is a Swede like myself :-)
Thank you very much man, best Marshall shootout ever! Great playing and well recorded. All of them are great indeed, but I really liked both the Super Bass.
Wow, this made my night. The plexis are a favorite amp of mine. While each one had its own flavor and vibe, I have to say I didn't hear one that I didn't like!
Thank you for all your work and time spent on these videos - As a professional; musician I appreciate the ability to really hear Marshall's "true variation of tone" of head, cab, speaker, year ect.. - I know I would not truly understood this reality until I saw your stuff -- Later
I know it would be huge undertaking, and these are all probably back at the rental place, but I would love to see/hear this demo with a different cabinet. Loved most of the amps, but a couple just didn't do it for me. I bet a different cab would change that right up. Full disclosure: I never "got" Marshall until very recently. I get it now! Thanks for showing me the folly of my youth! The '65 JTM 45 and the '68 50 Watt Lead were great, with the Super Lead, Super PA and a Super Bass more than holding their own.
The more beat up looking 69 Super Lead sounds insane, but that 71 Super Lead is the winner for me, its incredible! Johan definitely does the best Marshall demos.
1967 is the year for me! Both the Super Bass and the Black Flag did that thing where they sound present and full while keeping a bit of that Tweed-like character. They sound like Goliath versions of the Champ!
Excellent comparison !!! In my opinion this one is the best sounding... Amp nr. 5, year: 1967, 100 watt Super Bass, model 1992 (remark; ex Free, EL 34)...
So cool! I like the 68 SLP but they all have their own personality. Marshall's respond so well to how you pick, guitar volume nob ect. An extension of the instrument, not just an amplifier.
Mind blowing, to hear the difference between same model of amp over the years. My impression was that the reissue sounded vastly different from the others. I never really understood why some famous artists (like Aerosmith) rejected Marshall in the 70s because they didn't sound like their 60s amps. Now I kinda get it.
I wish my wife would allow me to redecorate the living room like this. You're only missing a 78" Samsung curved screen 4K UHD TV and a nice leather couch. Nice video. I'll take 1 of each please.
Yes times 10,000!!!! I play a JTM 45, and while I love to get dirty with a Les Paul on it, a single coil, less gainy pickup brings out the more subtle beauty that lies within.
Just brilliant Johan, only you could pull this off! All sound remarkably consistent. A credit to you and the owner. I'd love to take a peek under the hood and see what he uses for valves.
Thanks! We discussed the secret behind a great amp, and it is very much the sum of many small things, so if you change valves in an amp chances are that it's gonna sound very similar. Cheers
And the winner is...1966 JTM45/100 Super PA. This was an early Hendrix amp of choice and you can hear the same tone here at the 8:10sec mark. , the percussive strokes also sound tremendous, well done to demo that one Johan. It was also the model amp used at Monterrey Pop Festival according to one site. This amp is the only one listed on the Marshall site under Artists/Hendrix/ .
I have to agree with Jeff Beck (RIP). The 50w Marshall's have something special going on. The clarity and compression is phenomenal. That would be my dream room...
I think that the best sounding are the 1969 Super Lead, the 1965 JTM and the JTM Black Flag, but all of them sounds incredibly good and I'd love own any of them
This is nuts. I’m building a plexi this was a nice education. Ones that stand out to me. The JTM 45/100 and the Kossoff amp. Also the 2nd JTM black flag and the PA 100. The new amps sounded good too just brighter but that’s to be expected when parts are not 50 years old :-)
I had a chance today to not only play but Barrow a 68 superbass 100 watt(mighty I add with a 60 les paul and 51 Tele I'm so blessed to have nice friend).. Best Marshall I've ever played.. and actually only Marshall I've every played. Friend of mine has sworn for years that in his opinion is the best amp ever.....so I decided to give it a try with matching cab from 1968 with heritage 30's....My face melted. Even though it's a loud cruchy killer amp but it it is super versatile and has beautiful bright clean tones. I will be gigging two sets tomorrow on it before I have to give my new dream amp back.......
I like that first one, the 50 watt 1967 or that 1971 Super lead. Its got that cripsy and raspy tone. Almost early Van Halen'ish just add Phase 90 and a little delay and reverb. Wow they all sound great though AND unique. Goes to show you no two plexis are the same.
Wow, by far the best demo of vintage plexis on RUclips (or even any Marshall demo). I am amazed how thick and dirty the amps sound. Not that many guitar players got their plexi to sound this heavy, I am thinking of Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen etc..., but somehow you managed to perfectly capture the huge sounds these beasts contain. Awesome video, I am genuinely looking forward to your next videos! Have fun with the amps, if anyone, you deserve it :) |m|
Holy shi_ that room full of marshalls is intimidating. Ear protection mandatory! I can not pick a favorite. They all sound sweet. I really dig that wicked lick at about 13:32 to 13:40 !!! Well done!
Johan Segeborn Agreed! I've yet to find a solid state amp, modelling or otherwise, or a processor that can accurately imitate the glassy high end, the compressed push (not sure what else to call it) when they're cranked, the presence in the mix, and the note decay, especially the note decay; it just kind of, fizzes out instead of sustaining or feeding back like it shoiuld. I used to think it was me or my guitar, but after trying several they just can't compare to the real thing. There's always something missing.
They all sound very similar. They all sound awesome. I have a 65 Blackface Bassman. Mr Ben Fargen converted the bass side to a plexi and it sounds dead on. What is crazy is how great my Wampler Plexi Deluxe sounds too. I bet I could blind fold everyone on this forum and you would all have a hard time telling the difference between one of these Marshalls and the Wampler Plexi Deluxe. If any of you have not tried it, it is really a great pedal. Honestly, 97 percent there and it is only about 200 bucks. I run it through my blackface Bassman and my Fargen Blackbird 20 2x12.
Hey Johan, loved this video! I have a MojoTone 1959 100W Super Lead clone that I built and love it to death but, I have to admit that your JTM45 sounds absolutely amazing! 👍🏻🔥🔥
This is what heaven must be like. Can you imagine one Christmas morning going into your living room and seeing this?
Not really but I would love to see your neighbours reaction when you do walk into a room like that. Not sure if they would be as thrilled.
Naked women in front of each one of course...
@@SRV03101954 🤣👍
Guy-Mann-DUDE!!
billville111 I would probably pass out immediately from the shock of all the awesome
Every 10 seconds I'm like, "no, wait, that's my favorite ", "never mind, this one,"
+brandon caleb hahaha, I had that problem too ;-)
Exactly LOL
Hail. Your vids are probably the best historical time capsule available regarding marshals snd celestions. You can read the books or play the albums but your vids give perspective. I hope lots of collectors invite you over more often. Respect!
tockusa Thanks, that's very nice to hear :-) Cheers
Absolutely agree 100% 👍🏻❤️
I agree with this 100% too!!
That first 1967 50 watt sounded so fuzzy and compressed. I love it!
Yeah it almost sounds like a vintage synth :-) I loved it too
The best to my ears also.
It would be good to know the components in it.
I'll take the '69 Super Lead. The "arshall". It won every time.
I agree here too! For the JTM, I really loved the 65'. did it for me!!
agreed
69 super lead and the two super basses were my favs.
That first head you played, the '67 50 watt is just THE tone. The dream!
+dreamwever87 Thanks! Yeah it's a beast :-)
The 67 50 watt got my attention also.
they all sound slightly different, but all have that underlying tone which is just epic!
Moltisanti Yeah, some of them were just out of this world to play.
Thank you sooooo much for the short 53 sec of intro...and then 'playing' the entire rest of the video. I'm SO tired of people that won't shut up and play!! lol. Great video...extraordinary collection. Thanks so much for posting.
Jonathan K Thanks man!
now.... run them all at once!
I think God would complain about the noise
Good thing he does not exist ;)
I'm more of a Mesa kind of god. By the way, I'm from Gothenburg too!
yes yes yes !!! do it!
Yep... that would be great :p but i am also Fender kinda guy
Im sorry but that wall of Marshalls is one of the coolest things I've ever seen lol!!!!!!!
I think I wet myself
Nick Carrato can you imagine what Angus Young’s collection is like?
I don't know what the guy from Free did to his marshall but that sounds best to me.
Thanks man! They indeed seem the most balanced
The 67 JTM Black Flag may be the best sounding amp I've ever heard.
Every child should be taught this in school, in my humble opinion. :)
Thank You for this, Sir.
+Bothand Nether Thanks, I agree! :-)
Now that is how to examine the tone of an amp-no effects or studio-type tweaks. Just plug in and play-chords and single lines. Good stuff. Incredible selection of primo Marshall vintage heads.
Ah man. So many fine pieces of history. Thanks for the video, and to your friend (Yngwie?) for turning you loose on her/ his unbelievable collection.
The first one, the 50 watter sounds outstanding to me...it has a natural compression, punch and tone that are insane
+Crstov Thanks, I'm so glad to hear that!
I love the roundness and character of the JTM 45.
Thanks Jake
+Jake Stewart Music Me too. The JTM's are the ultimate Marshall for me. Got a bluesbreaker RI with scumbacks, and i've never had tone like this =)
orsvend ive always wanted one, but i fear that it is too clean for me! I want it to do Cream, Zeppelin and Allman Brothers stuff
Wow! Fantastic Job! This video is quite a treat for Marshall folks, thanks so much for doing this. This may be my favorite RUclips vid ever! You're playing was perfect for how I like to hear Marshalls, and very balanced amp to amp.
Thanks, you really make my day! Cheers
This is a great service to mankind. This was the kinda material lacking in ytube regarding plexi differences. I finally got the difference between a jtm and a jmp.
Again ur a most valuable asset sir. Tks for ur kindness and time.
Thanks! I really appreciate your kind words. Cheers Johan
The first 71 super lead was my favourite, sounds great! That must have been a fun day!
I agree!!! The 69 sounded killer too!!
Truly amazing and awe inspiring.I love Marshall amps. You have shared what most of us would only dream of.Thanks for the great video and great playing.
Thanks, really glad to hear that! Cheers Johan
Very very good!!!, all are awesome!, but 1959, 1968, 1969 and 2005 are my favorites!, thanks for video and congratulations!!!.
Thanks Edgar!
Most of them sound similar, but the JTM45's and the PA's sound a lot thicker. My personal favourites from this were the 1967's. Fantastic demo man, was absolutely awesome to watch!
DNKOTOR Thanks, glad to hear that. The 67's were awsome indeed. Cheers Johan
That must of been one heck of an experience, it was for me to watch. I've always wanted to hear a comparison like this, thanks!
Johan Segeborn saves the internet with rock n' roll again! One million thumbs up!
and one million CHEERS!
Human Steve Cheers Steve :-) That's very nice of you.
68 50w is a tone monster! so musical- holy grail it is. Awesome job!
despot62 Thanks, I agree the 67 and 68 50W Leads were my favourites. Cheers
Wow that first amp just blew me away (50 watt 67)I liked the tone of the 71' too
that ´77 Super Bass is absolutely incredible. I need it in my life, like right now.
This guy knows exactly what rock guitar players want to hear ..tested.
I like the 50w heads...& the
Black flag..

Cheers

This pretty much blew my mind. Thank you for your dedication.
This is probably one of my favourite demos from you. Can't wait for the specific demos
Luis Arciniega Thanks Luis, Glad to hear that!
Nice clips:)
1.1967 JTM Black Flag (2:03)
2.1967 50W head (9:12)
3.2005 Super lead HW(14:18)
4. 1971 Super Lead (7:43) - sounds so opened....
Thanks! Yeah those 67 amps are outa this world. Cheers
Woow! All so different. This is my RUclips Highlight so far!! Thank You Johan.
Christian Grumann Thanks Christian, That makes me really glad to hear. Cheers Johan
Thanks so much for putting this up! Those early 50 watt heads have some real magic, not taking anything way from those other great amps!! Awesome!
Thanks Jim, yeah I loved the 50watters too. Cheers
Thank you very much man, best Marshall shootout ever! Great playing and well recorded.
All of them are great indeed, but I really liked both the Super Bass.
mosquito1983 Thanks!
All Beautiful to my ears the 1969 Super Lead sounded sweet not so buzzy
Thanks for sharing, that's really cool ! The room you're playing in is paradise for every guitarist..
Yeah, indeed :-)
Awesome work....going to go home and dim the lights and light some candles and listen to this when I am not at work
NYC LP Player That's a great compliment! :-) Cheers Johan
Wow, this made my night. The plexis are a favorite amp of mine. While each one had its own flavor and vibe, I have to say I didn't hear one that I didn't like!
+Heath Weber Thanks Heath, I'm really glad to hear it!
Thank you for all your work and time spent on these videos - As a professional; musician I appreciate the ability to really hear Marshall's "true variation of tone" of head, cab, speaker, year ect.. - I know I would not truly understood this reality until I saw your stuff -- Later
+JimmyWlf777 Thanks man, glad to hear it! See you around! Johan
God bless Jim Marshall! I have a '72 Handwired JMP 50 and I'll own it til I die :)
KONAROCK1 Amen to that
And then i'll buy it. ))
+reno145 In another clip here on the channel I compare 28 Marshall cab where this one is one of them.
That is the video that made me "get" Marshalls. Loved it and subscribed from it.
The more beat up looking 69 Super Lead sounds insane, but that 71 Super Lead is the winner for me, its incredible! Johan definitely does the best Marshall demos.
Thanks Ethan, Cheers
Etan Güt yup! I picked the 71 super lead also. It’s just got the meanest rip to it. Reminds me of 70’s hard rock. Appropriately... it’s a 71
1967 is the year for me! Both the Super Bass and the Black Flag did that thing where they sound present and full while keeping a bit of that Tweed-like character. They sound like Goliath versions of the Champ!
+Lars Sig Yeah the Black flag in this clip had a really cool break up that was not typical Marshall
Excellent comparison !!! In my opinion this one is the best sounding... Amp nr. 5, year: 1967, 100 watt Super Bass, model 1992 (remark; ex Free, EL 34)...
+Stéphane Meillère Thanks! Yeah it was a privilege to play Paul Kossoffs amp!
I didn’t realise that there was quite so much variation in tone between the models. Thank you, Johan 😊
There's a lot of variation just amp to amp, even ones from the same model/year. This 1966 jtm45 is probably gonna sound different from that one
So cool! I like the 68 SLP but they all have their own personality. Marshall's respond so well to how you pick, guitar volume nob ect. An extension of the instrument, not just an amplifier.
+John Miller They are indeed. Having them cranked it's all at one's fingertips!
Great video ! Always a pleasure to hear you playing.
Keep the video's coming....
Greetings from Holland
Alex Wagevoort Thanks Alex! More is coming up soon. :-) Greetings from Gothenburg
Crunchifyable2 Yeah, these circuits are very similar, still they produce all possible sounds from classic rock history! :-) Cheers
The '68 Super Lead man... That amp has the perfect texture for my taste!
...really mad vid dude...a sounding shrine to the spirit of all those players, and you a druid priest leading the ceremony...great!
Thanks man, I can picture myself as a druid priest in a heart beat ;-) Cheers
Gibson Les Paul + Marshall = Rock N Roll Heaven.
They all sound AWESOME !!! Great Demo Johan !
TONY WHELAN SLIDES ! Thanks Tony!
Looking at ALL these Marshall heads and cabs and listening to Johan Sergeborn play through them is"good for my soul"....very soothing...aahh....
love the sound of the 77 super bass
+Matt Bush I do too, I use that amp very often. Cheers
Love all your demos Johan. Very cool that you are an engineer at Volvo. The new S90 will be my next car when my current lease is up.
+jason smith Thanks man, that's a good choice! Volvo is finally fully Premium!! Cheers Johan
wow... just wow... so awesome to hear the difference between all those lovely heads. this is the best youtube vid ive seen 10/10
Thanks man!
SWEET! Thanks and looking forward to the individual demos.
The '71 Super Lead is my Favorite for now.
Tweedman 2001 Thanks man, glad you liked it. Cheers! Johan
it's like you died and went to Plexi Heaven!
+Buzz Crumhunger Yeah, a religious experience indeed.
Thank you for this great video! Great to hear a comparison of all those amazing amps!
JohnnyCarvin Thanks Johnny! :-)
This is the best demo EVER! It's heaven Johan, you lucky dog!!!
ALittleAintEnough Thanks! Yeah I couldn't believe it when I steeped into that room. :-) Cheers
Pure sonic ecstacy ! What a collection.
Thanks! :-)
The 2005 handwired plexi sounded great! didn't expect it to stand out this good ;-)
Zztop128 For a reissue it's definetly a great achievment from Marshall, with all restrictions and changes in available materials. Cheers
I got one plexi and im so freaking happy lol... def want a second one to combine !
An impressive array of amps! Very Nice.
Thanks Jody, Cheers! Johan
77 super bass is the one that is
most attractive to my ears.
I wish my wife would allow me to redecorate the living room like this. You're only missing a 78" Samsung curved screen 4K UHD TV and a nice leather couch.
Nice video. I'll take 1 of each please.
Thanx for this nice demo.
The same demo with a stratocaster would be very interesting too !
Yes times 10,000!!!! I play a JTM 45, and while I love to get dirty with a Les Paul on it, a single coil, less gainy pickup brings out the more subtle beauty that lies within.
+Mikka Grytviken Thanks, we're gonna try to do one of those soon. Cheers Johan
Cheers
We can probably comment on the valves in the upcoming feature clips :-)
Personally #2 and the 2005 Hand Wired sounded the best to me. Awesome video!
TheTrilogy2012 Thanks! :-)
And the winner is...1966 JTM45/100 Super PA. +JBlogger Thanks! I'm a huge fan of Hendrix
Like that 2005 Handwired Model. 1969 Super Lead brings back memories
Thanks for video.
I have to agree with Jeff Beck (RIP). The 50w Marshall's have something special going on. The clarity and compression is phenomenal.
That would be my dream room...
My ear loves the 67 50 watt amp...super cool video!
Thanks, that's one of my favs too! Cheers
I think that the best sounding are the 1969 Super Lead, the 1965 JTM and the JTM Black Flag, but all of them sounds incredibly good and I'd love own any of them
WOW! this must have taken such a long time to set up and record. Brilliant comparison video :-)
Thanks man! :-)
Great review!!!!!!!!! make one with these amps and one Strato!
You sound lethal. 67 50 tremolo is my fav.
Thanks for share these pretty beasts.
Gaston Gamba Thanks Gaston! I'll do a Strat version when I get a chance! Cheers
Gotta give respect like for that picture, oh my goodness!
That 1968 Super lead sounds AMAZING ! It's famous for a good reason
Thanks, indeed!
Awesome demo as usual Johan ! Keep them coming !!

Lennert Kryn Thanks Lennert! Really appreciate that. Cheers Johan
I seem to like the
1969 Super Lead amps
You put in a lot of work making these videos .
Good job!
Killer Marshall Amps Demo !! Best Side by Side Marshall Video!
wix1dotcom Thanks, really glad to hear that!
Holy shi_ that room full of marshalls is intimidating. Ear protection mandatory! I can not pick a favorite. They all sound sweet. I really dig that wicked lick at about 13:32 to 13:40 !!! Well done!
Thanks, I really appreciate it :-)
Nice demo...My favorite was the 67 SUPERBASS. ..I was hoping to see a 1959 SL but O-well the many others are cool...
Jeff Lafreniere Thanks man, there were several Super Leads (model 1959) in there. A 68, two 69s and a 71 at least. Cheers
I would almost kill for either the 69 or 71 super leads. Both are right up my alley as far as tone goes.
Claude Hebert Yeah, Zeppelin (69) and Kiss (71) sounding amps :-)
Johan Segeborn Agreed! I've yet to find a solid state amp, modelling or otherwise, or a processor that can accurately imitate the glassy high end, the compressed push (not sure what else to call it) when they're cranked, the presence in the mix, and the note decay, especially the note decay; it just kind of, fizzes out instead of sustaining or feeding back like it shoiuld.
It's so hard to choose a favorite! But I really like the 1967 50 watt at 9:12-- It just seemed to jump out a little more.
+Matt Cary And I do agree with you guys... the JTM 45 does sound quite tasty!
+Matt Cary That's exactly what im thinkin. That one is perfectly balanced marshall.
agree
Who said Paradise didn´t exist? thanks a lot for this comparison!!
Thanks Kawa!
Thats what I called a wall of Marshall, great video and awsome riffing as always
***** Thanks Michael :-)
14:18 I like this sound. The 1959hw sounds good enough to rival vintage plexi amps.
