I never understood the need to add "dramatic music" to gunfights/action scenes, especially after seeing movies like Saving Private Ryan for the first time. It actually ruins perfectly good scenes.
Johnny Depp is my favourite American actor who has never allowed himself to the cast, many varied roles a talent that has such a broad spectrum. He is incredible.
A phenomenal film,. I rarely write reviews, but this film truly deserves it, extremely underrated espically with it's cast, dialogue, soundtrack, and storyline. Johnny Depp, and Christan Bale absolutely nailed their roles, and a special mention to Crudup who plays Hoover, and Marion who plays Billie, such an amazing influence, and performance. Although the film never claims to be based on a true story, it truly showed the whole Dilliginer era well, and effective, as expected by Micheal Mann. Amazes me how underrated the film is, truly never gets the credit it deserves. Watch it yourself, well worth it, nothing worth spoiling, espically the end scene. What a film! 27.04.24
This, Donnie Brasco, The secret window, and the ninth gate are my favorite movies. Children of Men will always be my favorite movie out of any but depp has more movies that I enjoy than any other actor.
He could be my huckleberry! Johnny Depp plays a great gangster he has the looks the style and the ability to act! All my love and respect to you Mr Johnny Depp❤🎉❤❤
The thing that I like is the bond and loyalty between John Dillinger crew, Johnny asks for the vote or opinion of his crew for killing the guy who causes the shootout Both of them are loyal to him so they don’t care what he chooses to do
I feel like this is a forgotten, underrated movie of Johnny Depp's. I don't understand why it doesn't the shine other gangster movie get, it's great and needs a 4k release.
They LOVED him so bad. Dillinger could have ditched him yet risked being caught up by dragging him along. The look on Dietrich's eyes seeing Dillinger will not just let him go is heartbreaking, at least he died knowing Dillinger really cared for him.
Johnny learned how to break down & clean his Tommy gun for this movie. Mann included it in the film. So with all these guns & all these people no one got hurt. WTH was going on with Baldwins movie?
After watching this I watched Manhattan Melodrama (1934). The two movies couldn't be any more different stylistically but sfter watching Manhattan Melodrama the ending of Public Enemies (2009) is more nuanced than I'd given it credit for previously.
worse than blowing him away, he gets to go right back to that jail with all those pissed off guards who lost (at least) two of their own, one at his hands. And every prisoner in that facility is going to pay for that escape as well. he's done, and it's ain't going to be easy.
When Scorsese was asked which actors he would like to work with, his answer actually was "Johnny Depp is one. I like him. He's unique. I don't know how he does it".
If you ever see any of those old-timey prisons in real life they're pretty intense. I once drove by the prison in Atlanta that held Al Capone, it's fuckin scary. Pictures do not do it justice.
Dillingers gang was outed when staying in the Hotel Congress in Tucson when the third floor burned away from a kitchen fire. It was never rebuilt and is now a quirky two story historic building.
One of the most underrated movies of all time. Johnny Depp’s performance was stunning.
Offcourse he's the sexiest man alive I just love this georgous man
for real what a movie!
I have no idea why this movie was so dismissed. I think this and Miami Vice are Mann’s hidden gems.
Best thing about this movie was the shootouts. No epic music - just raw gunfire. Very underrated imo.
Thats because Michael Mann directed this film, who is responsible for the best shootout ever filmed
I never understood the need to add "dramatic music" to gunfights/action scenes, especially after seeing movies like Saving Private Ryan for the first time. It actually ruins perfectly good scenes.
Michael Mann directs shootouts with live blanks - public enemies , collateral , heat , etc .. all amazing movies 🎥
yea now adays they all just blacks and blacks music.
Yep the chatter or clattering sounds of the tommy guns letting off bullets was brilliant,
I've always preferred Johnny in these type of roles, he's so damn charismatic and scary at the same time.
It's like seeing too masculine milf playing dude. They call it "uncanny valley"
one of my favorite gangster movies, I love Johnny Depp's performance in this one.

Met Johnny Depp on the " Mordetcai" set. Told him I loved PE. He smiled and said thanks. Underrated film.
Another masterclass by Mr Depp in this movie. 👏
Michael Mann directed it, Mr Depp merely followed his acting orders.
the face is not the mind behind the thoughts.
Michael Mann is a genius filmmaker
I'd agree but choosing to shoot this film digitally when that technology wasn't really ready was a bad idea and has really dated this movie

The haters love to say Depp can only play one character. Obviously they never saw this, Secret Window or one of his best roles as Donnie Brasco.
Brasco was AMAZING! Totally agree bro.
He was also great in movies like....
Blow (2001)
Finding Neverland (2004)
Black Mass (2015)
Secret Window blew ass
@@PrincessZelda_is_My_Side_Chick I thought it was a pretty good film, Plus he wasn't playing that one character everyone likes to pigeon hole him as
What do they mean by one character?
Depp played him magnificently
This is one of the coolest movies ever
One of the best movie with Johnny Depp. Can’t wait when he’s back in full .
Dillinger’s as good as saying, “It’s a jailbreak, boys! We’re busting out!”
I love johnny Depp
Please bring him back to Hollywood

His reservedness serves him well, bringing so much authority and depth to the last scene here

It seems so easy for Johnny Depp to masterfully give a realistic and powerful performance portraying John Dillenger.
This, Donnie Brasco, The secret window, and the ninth gate are my favorite movies. Children of Men will always be my favorite movie out of any but depp has more movies that I enjoy than any other actor.

You guys call EVERYTHING underrated
when I saw this movie, I only saw john dillinger, that's how good johnny depp was in this movie..
Both this film and the John Milius film hold a special place in my heart.
The shootout was pretty nicely done there. No spectacular waste of ammo or epic music, just what one would expect.
yeah the first time I saw that I was fuckin hyped!
One of my favorite Johnny Depp movies and he's among my favorite actors
Noone on the roof had a BAR !!
But they did have a 1903 Springfield bolt action rifle.....Same caliber as a BAR....30.06 caliber.
Johnny oozes charisma and charm, screw whatever they say about him. Amber never deserved him.
Insanely underrated movie
I seen this movie on the big screen when it came out. Great movie Dillinger was before his time
One of the best prison escapes ever 😊😊😊😊😊
A reporter asked Dillinger why he robs banks and he replied cause that's where the money 💰 is 😆 🤣 great answer 👍

He didn’t gaf 😂😂😂
Sense of style. Period feel. Well realized acting. Great film. Hugely underappreciated.
He could be my huckleberry! Johnny Depp plays a great gangster he has the looks the style and the ability to act!

The cinematography is amazing
I got to see the filming up here in Wisconsin. I got a high five from Depp haha. Pretty neat. It was the bank robbery scene up here.
I got a high ten
And i live in North Dakota
The best movie of Jhonny Deep 👍✨

two of the greatest badass gangsters ever Grindelwald and Dillinger
Born & raised a Hoosier.. I understand this scene too well. They still have gun turrets @ the courthouse.. oh & tunnels for when Dillinger comes by.😂😂
alway the best of mafia and gangster movies need to watch it for sure
This movie was seriously underrated. What a great movie.
So underrated this movies amazing if you know you know
They needed Walter Dietrich so bad he was the one who taught Dillinger the most

The guy who burst him out of jail is very good actor

Jason Clarke is his name.
