From award-winning director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) comes the film inspired by one of the country’s most captivating and infamous outlaws - John Dillinger. Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean series) stars as the charismatic and elusive bank robber marked by the FBI as America’s first “Public Enemy Number One.” Academy Award®-winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose) plays Billie Frechette, the only woman capable of capturing his heart. Hunted relentlessly by top FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale, The Dark Knight), Dillinger engages in an escalating game of outrunning and outgunning the FBI, culminating in an explosive legendary showdown. “It’s a landmark crime saga” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).

Best thing about this movie was the shootouts. No epic music - just raw gunfire. Very underrated imo.
Thats because Michael Mann directed this film, who is responsible for the best shootout ever filmed
I never understood the need to add "dramatic music" to gunfights/action scenes, especially after seeing movies like Saving Private Ryan for the first time. It actually ruins perfectly good scenes.
Michael Mann directs shootouts with live blanks - public enemies , collateral , heat , etc .. all amazing movies 🎥
yea now adays they all just blacks and blacks music.
Yep the chatter or clattering sounds of the tommy guns letting off bullets was brilliant,
I've always preferred Johnny in these type of roles, he's so damn charismatic and scary at the same time.
It's like seeing too masculine milf playing dude. They call it "uncanny valley"
This is one of Depp's best performances. He really embodied Dillinger.
i guess? i dont know what dillinger was supposed to be like, so he could have sold me anything.
@@rebotsomat ^ Simp supporter.
yes of course because you knew dillinger
Not like Warren Oates, but decent take.
@@gabevachon5555 did you mean Warren Beatty?
One of the most underrated movies of all time. Johnny Depp’s performance was stunning.
Offcourse he's the sexiest man alive I just love this georgous man
for real what a movie!
I have no idea why this movie was so dismissed. I think this and Miami Vice are Mann’s hidden gems.
one of my favorite gangster movies, I love Johnny Depp's performance in this one.
Likewise.
@@dub2536 Jesus is God 🦁
Johnny Depp's performance is amazing regarding the role he's playing
Whos johnny deep?
@@poorfordtransitowner1627 A POOR BASTARD
The haters love to say Depp can only play one character. Obviously they never saw this, Secret Window or one of his best roles as Donnie Brasco.
Brasco was AMAZING! Totally agree bro.
He was also great in movies like....
Blow (2001)
Finding Neverland (2004)
Black Mass (2015)
Secret Window blew ass
@@PrincessZelda_is_My_Side_Chick I thought it was a pretty good film, Plus he wasn't playing that one character everyone likes to pigeon hole him as
What do they mean by one character?
Met Johnny Depp on the " Mordetcai" set. Told him I loved PE. He smiled and said thanks. Underrated film.
Another masterclass by Mr Depp in this movie. 👏
Michael Mann is a genius filmmaker
I'd agree but choosing to shoot this film digitally when that technology wasn't really ready was a bad idea and has really dated this movie
@@jidgy8547elaborate
@@jidgy8547Or maybe he just chose this style like he did with Collateral and Miami Vice remake.
Depp played him magnificently
Dillinger’s as good as saying, “It’s a jailbreak, boys! We’re busting out!”
This is one of the coolest movies ever
One of the best movie with Johnny Depp. Can’t wait when he’s back in full .
One of Johnny Depp badass roles
Black mass
@@anthonyperez1698 not compared to this one he looks on point here
Johnny oozes charisma and charm, screw whatever they say about him. Amber never deserved him.
Insanely underrated movie
Michael Mann is a genius filmmaker. Insanely underrated movie.
I love johnny Depp
Please bring him back to Hollywood

when I saw this movie, I only saw john dillinger, that's how good johnny depp was in this movie..
Johnny Depp is my favourite American actor who has never allowed himself to the cast, many varied roles a talent that has such a broad spectrum. He is incredible.
A phenomenal film,. I rarely write reviews, but this film truly deserves it, extremely underrated espically with it's cast, dialogue, soundtrack, and storyline. Johnny Depp, and Christan Bale absolutely nailed their roles, and a special mention to Crudup who plays Hoover, and Marion who plays Billie, such an amazing influence, and performance. Although the film never claims to be based on a true story, it truly showed the whole Dilliginer era well, and effective, as expected by Micheal Mann. Amazes me how underrated the film is, truly never gets the credit it deserves. Watch it yourself, well worth it, nothing worth spoiling, espically the end scene. What a film! 27.04.24
two of the greatest badass gangsters ever Grindelwald and Dillinger
This, Donnie Brasco, The secret window, and the ninth gate are my favorite movies. Children of Men will always be my favorite movie out of any but depp has more movies that I enjoy than any other actor.
His reservedness serves him well, bringing so much authority and depth to the last scene here
I seen this movie on the big screen when it came out. Great movie Dillinger was before his time
A reporter asked Dillinger why he robs banks and he replied cause that's where the money 💰 is 😆 🤣 great answer 👍
😂😂😂😂
The cinematography is amazing
Forever johnny depp
It seems so easy for Johnny Depp to masterfully give a realistic and powerful performance portraying John Dillenger.
The shootout was pretty nicely done there. No spectacular waste of ammo or epic music, just what one would expect.
yeah the first time I saw that I was fuckin hyped!
Both this film and the John Milius film hold a special place in my heart.
I got to see the filming up here in Wisconsin. I got a high five from Depp haha. Pretty neat. It was the bank robbery scene up here.
I got a high ten
And i live in North Dakota
Love this movie Johnny Depp was great in this movie I like John Dillinger'!!!
One of the best prison escapes ever 😊😊😊😊😊
Ace movie watched more than once never gets old like Lawless an heat.
Johnny learned how to break down & clean his Tommy gun for this movie. Mann included it in the film. So with all these guns & all these people no one got hurt. WTH was going on with Baldwins movie?
Every film has a head weapons safety expert and the production for Baldwins movie decided to use firearms without their expert around.
Baldwin did it on purpose.
@@rassyconkerhead5548 Trump killed 500000 people on purpose with not doing anything about covid.

@@tylervincent8424 their expert was a bafoon lesbian affrimtive action hire .
The thing that I like is the bond and loyalty between John Dillinger crew, Johnny asks for the vote or opinion of his crew for killing the guy who causes the shootout
Both of them are loyal to him so they don’t care what he chooses to do
So underrated this movies amazing if you know you know
One of my favorite movies
Team Johnny
Mann I forgot about this movie. Definetly gona have to watch again soon
alway the best of mafia and gangster movies need to watch it for sure
worse than blowing him away, he gets to go right back to that jail with all those pissed off guards who lost (at least) two of their own, one at his hands.
And every prisoner in that facility is going to pay for that escape as well.
he's done, and it's ain't going to be easy.
My favorite Depp movie.
One of the greatest movie ever⚡️JD🤩
My favorite Johnny Depp movie
Wow amazing movie!!!!!
Depp is on top as usual
The guy who burst him out of jail is very good actor
You mean bust?
Jason Clarke is his name.
Boa noite, um bom filme sensacional. Adorei o vídeo.
After watching this I watched Manhattan Melodrama (1934). The two movies couldn't be any more different stylistically but sfter watching Manhattan Melodrama the ending of Public Enemies (2009) is more nuanced than I'd given it credit for previously.
Stop watching obscure films you don't actually enjoy, nobody is impressed

One of Mr Depps better roles.... really good movie
This is great.
So good at playing the bad guy 😏
Fun Fact: *Like a pirate (wink, wink), John Dillinger hidden his robbed loot before his final shootout*
My Johnny 4ever❤️
I'm from Michigan City. The prison shown here looks more modern (and futuristic) than the prison actually is today. At least, the outside shots.
When the word friend meant something

I feel like this is a forgotten, underrated movie of Johnny Depp's. I don't understand why it doesn't the shine other gangster movie get, it's great and needs a 4k release.
It often comes & goes from Netflix
Great film.✅📽️🎬⚡
Depp played a very good Dillinger...Shows his acting range...Much more entertaining than endless Jack Sparrow repeats...
Nunca Abandonó, Nunca Traicionó a uno de los míos Big John
I feel stupid now finally realizing this was how the band The Dillinger Escape Plan, got their name.
Johnny looks better in character then in real life
If you ever see any of those old-timey prisons in real life they're pretty intense. I once drove by the prison in Atlanta that held Al Capone, it's fuckin scary. Pictures do not do it justice.
A friend ran away and still came back to help.
Johnny depp has the sexiest voice
Too much book for one movie. Would have made a good Netflix series.
The book is fantastic, and I agree a netflix series covering the whole book would be great.
Um filme espetacular!
This reminds me....I need to watch this movie again.
The best movie of Jhonny Deep 👍✨
Bestttt
Very good movie, Johnny D 👍🏻
Great movie
Fun Fact: This song that plays at 5:23 is the track "Beam" from the movie The Thin Red Line
Buena pelicula 2009 de johnny depp😁🖒
Such an underrated movie
Dillingers gang was outed when staying in the Hotel Congress in Tucson when the third floor burned away from a kitchen fire. It was never rebuilt and is now a quirky two story historic building.
Why the hell has Johnny Depp not done a Martin Scorsese film yet.
When Scorsese was asked which actors he would like to work with, his answer actually was "Johnny Depp is one. I like him. He's unique. I don't know how he does it".
Just Watched This On Netflix What a Great Movie Real Gangsta Shit
A pasta boy with a tommy gun 😂

man, no Gun will ever be as Iconic as a Tommy Gun.
Semangat min👍🙃
i like when he asks his gang if he should let him have it.
underrated movie
I wish Walter had said something profound when he was dragged. He could've said. "John don't be sad for me, I'm not. I'll be fine." and smiles and passes away, would make a huge impact.
Bro Channing Tatum in this movie was the shit 😭😭
He was only in for 90 seconds
This never came close to the original but you can see Depp had fun.
When the streets took care of themselves
Dillinger couldn't have done this in real life, since he was in lockup in Lima, Ohio in late September 1933.
I'm black johnny Depp one of my fav actors
