  • Step components: Heel drop (Left), Heel - Step (right),; Heel - Step (left), Stomp (right). Then repeat starting on the opposite side. Heel drop (right), Heel - Step (left), Heel -Step (right), Stomp (left). [some call the Step a "toe" as they only step onto the ball of the foot, but beginners should start with a full step, to help avoid confusion as they speed up]
I anticipate that Irish dancers will be surprised to see an Appalachian buckdancer try to teach the Sean Nós tradition, but I feel there is merit to the "see one, do one, teach one" pedagogic tradition. So as I try to learn this style, I will try to teach others through videos. Moreover, I think I help more Americans try to learn this because I may explain things to Americans who may not be familiar with Irish dancers’ terminology - they name steps differently from American dance traditions (e.g., they call a heel drop a "hop" and a weight-bearing "stomp" a "stamp"). So hopefully the Irish will forgive an American beginner trying to share their tradition! ...
Here you can see how the Connemara step sounds up to speed in the context of an Irish set dance -
note the rhythmic addition of this basic step to the overall acoustics. • Connemara Reel Set Fig...

sean nos dance is a little easier on the hips, and knees, but uses a lot of lower leg and foot.

Hi Moonshine, add to my last text, really a late late starter with Sean-nos and flatfooting, Intoxicated with the irish reels and mainly old time fiddle and banjo combined, have watched hundreds of vids with Sean-nos dancing flatfooting, there are many close similarities in the both forms, this makes it so exciting to watch, take and dance,I love your enthusiasm you give so much

moner Mccarthy I should use my own vdo to update myself, as I’m just recovering after an entire year of the most painful sacroiliac pain! The pain was due to buckdancing in the flatfooting style with a chug. If I am to resume dance I should do so with this sea Nos style

@@MissMoonshineDance Yes, stick with the safest style. When I was young I took formal Irish Step Dance, but recently came across Sean Nos style. That's where your feed came up. I'll take Sean Nos handsdown any day. Good luck in your recovery.

Had feeling you would get interested in Sean nos
Moonshine, I started of with Sean-nos, then more interested in Old timey music, this lead to Me to Flatfooting, then getting back to Sean-nos, Irish reels, you your self take on board with ease

Hi, i love flatfooting and love watching your dancing. As a sean nos dancer it is fascinating to see your flatfoot flavor on the Connemara step. Just to avoid confusion though, the group in the clip you linked to is not doing the Connemara step. In fact, most set dancers now do the Clare step for all reels, even in the Connemara Set, which, as you pointed out, has its own step. Ill do some searching for a set actually doing the Connemara step, and link it if I can find one.

maybe i should just remove the clip, and or replace it with what you send me

Easy mistake. Hardly anyone really uses the Connemara step in the set anymore (much to my dismay). I had to go to Japan I think to find a video with more than one person on the floor doing it (well there are a couple I took in Milwaukee but they are too dark) 😁. See ruclips.net/video/9bI4UQUNv88/видео.html. This group does a good job of it and it is easy to see, although you can't hear it all that well. I think I now am on a mission to have my class record a demo video!

Watch especially the couple facing the band, the girl in the skirt and blue leggings, and her partner in the white pants.
