But… it is nice to have something that is so portable in the 14”, but I’m here to do work, not have a laptop that’s as easy to transport as possible.

I tried both for a month and kept the 14". As someone with smaller hands, I found the position for my hands to be much more comfortable on the 14". The 14" also feels much less awkward in my lap, or on one leg, or in one hand when the lid was open. I felt that I needed to use the 16" farther away from my lap in order to have an acceptable viewing distance for the larger screen. I can see why the 16" would be totally preferred for people with larger/stronger hands or eyesight issues.
You should never use your laptop above your lap directly because of EMF radiation and the effects they cause on reducing testosterone and overall harm of your organs.. It is actually best practice to use the laptop towards your knees, or even better a laptop tray if you are on the sofa, coupled with an ethernet port, Wi-Fi turned off, and Bluetooth turned off, which minimises the amount of EMF radiation being exposed.

...it is the most difficult question. In terms of performance and most other specs, the 14" would be fine for my needs. However being used a 5k Apple Display (27") for the last 3 years, 14 inch just seems tiny to me. Also, if you really need more space and don't have to walk around all day with it, one can connect an iPad 12.9" pro to the 14" via sidecar and end up with more real estate than the 16", and hardly more weight. Menues and buttons/ sliders on the iPad, main viewer on the Macbook.

So.. will be upgrading to the 16in! Thank you for a great review. It was useful to see the sizes of the different keyboard areas.
Thanks for the video! Great comparison! I'm going to wait until I go into an Apple store and check them out in person before I make a decision. I'm currently rocking a 15" 2012 MBP Retina (this thing's still a beast) so regardless of what I choose, it's going to be a massive upgrade for me. I'm very excited.
The fully maxed-out 14” MacBook Pro doesn’t perform as well as the 16” due to thermal throttling. So, if you’re going for the 14”, choose it with the Pro chip, and if you need the performance of the Max chip, the 16” is the better choice.
I wanted the 16. Then I went to the store to check them out. 16 was way too heavy to be carried around and decided I should go with the 14. Couple of days ago I went to the store again and now the 16 didn't seem that big anymore. This is way too difficult. If I only could get them both for one whole day and I would know. I really want to use it also as "laptop" outside in garden and I would need to keep the 16 on my lap for couple of hours to know, if it's ok for that. Do you have tested the 16 on your lap for any extended period of time and how did it feel? Blood still circulating on both feet? ;)
I hear you, Timo Grönroos! Thanks for watching and sharing! Tough choice, indeed! And yes, my blood still flows after using mine on my lap. :-) Happy New Year!
The 16" MacBook is honestly just too big. One of the things I love about the MacBook lineup is that the display experience on both the 14" and 16" models is virtually identical, so you're essentially getting the same screen. It's like choosing between a 70" and 72" TV-both are great, but the difference is hardly noticeable. With the MacBooks, though, what stands out is how much heavier and bulkier the 16" model is, especially when you consider desk space. At your desk, you'll likely use a monitor and a 75% keyboard anyway. That's why I think the 14" is the sweet spot. In an office setup, you'll have a proper monitor and keyboard (hopefully), with your MacBook maybe serving as a secondary display. The portability and ease of use on smaller surfaces make the 14" a much better option. It's lighter, more compact, and just easier to carry around and hold. Two more inches of screen are not worth the added weight and size, especially since you're not gaining any extra usable pixels. Plus, with the MacBook, when you're using the built-in display, it's right in front of you, attached to the keyboard. So if you bring your head just a couple of inches closer to the 14" model, you're effectively getting those extra two inches for free.
When I save enough I’m replacing my 2012 MBP with the 16 inch. Because I’m a visual artist who digs that big screen. In fact I’d go for a 16/15 inch MacBook Air with Liquid Retina if Apple made one!
Do you perhaps still have older macbook pro 15 inch (for example from 2015) and could compare it's size side by side with new 14 and 16 inch macbooks? I plan to switch from old 15 inch macbook and can't decide if 14 inch would be enough.
@@AlejandroGarcia-nh1wc I already forgot about this comment but thanks :) and I can now say that in fact 2015 pro 15 inch is marginally wider than new 16 inch so if anyone with pro 2015 is still thinking about the switch to a new model then I recommend going with 16 inch.
I’m for the 14”. Coming from a 2020 Dell Inspiron (horrible experience with that computer) I’m super excited for something more portable but can handle very decently hard core Abelton live use!
Thanks for watching and asking, Yirui! The windows will be small but I think you can if needed. What size screen do you have now? Are you able to do so on your screen?
think of it like they're both good options, with distinct advantages. I personally use it docked 80% of the time so i went for the 14". I used to own a 16" and it was just a little cumbersome in public.
I went with the 16" MBP. The extra weight is not a problem for me and I like the added features of the 16" (i.e., larger screen size, better thermals, larger battery, and the High Power setting in System Preferences). I figure that if you want real portability, go with an M1 MacBook Air or M1 MBP. If you just want to save $200, go with the 14" MBP. I wanted a beast of a machine. For me the choice was easy... I got the fully loaded 16". The only thing I didn't get is the 8TBs of SSD. I only need 600GBs so I bought 2TBs instead. 👍😎
Good choice you are not complaining like some of the guys about wait and size they need to go the gym their body will thank them, it is unbelievable listening to some of them.
it's not because we can't lift it lol, it's because the difference is noticeable when moving it in and out of a backpack, carrying on public transport, using in libraries, coffee shops and airports & planes. You may not notice, but i notice. I used to own a 16" and it was just a little cumbersome for me... i felt vulnerable using it (especially on planes). Choice is good, there is no need to scoff at other peoples preferences.
My friend, comparing going to the gym with carrying this laptop, on your back, everyday (if you need) is completly idiotic to say the least. You should start using some brain cells, if you have some. In the future your back might thank you for it.
You could also use a smaller window to work on so you can pull the notebook further to you! I was reading your comment and always though how people can work with that tiny stuff in scaling mode for more screen estate. Now i just tried to pull the 16" further to me on the lap - except that it feels a bit uncomfortable to use yet, the 16,2" really feels like a Desktop. The issue with the 14"... its NOTICABLE smaller in screen size and battery, but not noticable better for mobile usage/carrying around. A friend with a 14" M1 Max always cry about his battery life, even for basic tasks. Me on the other hand i cant care less about battery anymore with the 16" M1 Pro since it lasts literally for 2-5 days with about 50-80% battery used.
Short and to the point video. Since you have used all different screen sizes, can you mention that is the 14in screen good enough for editing photos? If I don’t plan to use an external monitor. How small is the 14in in real life compared to 15in. Currently using a 15in windows laptop.
Good question, Tomal! I think the 14" is big enough for photo editing. You can always zoom into the photos to see more details. Thanks for watching and asking! Happy New Year!
The trackpad on the 16" is larger, I compared them at 2:58 ruclips.net/video/dSIWlMAaTmg/видео.html. Thanks for watching and asking, Upkar! Happy New Year!
Hi ! I am jumping from Macbook 15inch 2013 with a small trackpad.. i was always using the bigger screen , but I am not sure about the super huge trackpad in the new Macbook. Did you have hard time to get used to it? Should I consider the 14inch instead?
Thanks for watching and asking, ITHEDESIGN! No, it was easy to get used to. I would not consider the 14-inch for the smaller trackpad. Good luck with your decision!
Great review! After receiving a defective 16” M1Pro on Nov 1, I FINALLY got a replacement delivered Monday, Dec 6. I enjojed using a 17” for ten yrs!! I didn’t hesitate. Very happy with the 16”. Like you, I used the 13” M1 Air for almost a year. The portability is great, but I missed the big screen. I do tons of music recording and editing; and a bit of video. So the more screen real estate the better! Sidecar with my 11” iPad Pro is terrific. I just got the 16”, and still have lots of software to install, so I haven’t yet gotten busy with it. Can I ask you what 32” monitor you use? I can’t seem to find a nice compromise; ESPECIALLY with regards to thunderbolt ports. Thanks again! Liked and subscribed. I especially look forward to your vid on astrophotography!!
Welcome, TJ Sound! Thanks for watching and your support! Glad you finally got a good replacement. Enjoy your new tool! What are you going to do with your MBA? I have the LG 32UN880-B, amzn.to/30mqpBg. Good enough quality at a reasonable price. It comes with a good monitor stand.
@@Tech4Baba dang, I just saw this. Sorry! I bought one M1 MacBook Air for my Wife. The other for my daughter. But she didn't need it until after the school year. So I borrowed it from November til July. The wait for the 16" M1 MacBook Pro was painful! BTW, what are your thoughts on the new $1600 5k Apple Monitor? A bit pricey for me.
@@Archdrew901 Immediately after powering up, there was a distortion on the lower part of the screen, covering the dock. It was the top part of the screen, only split into hazy thin horizontal bars. I called immediately, and did all the things they suggested. No Go. Apple wanted to blame UPS, but it was hand delivered to me from the UPS driver in an undamaged packing box. I took pics of course. Very cool experience getting a new MacBook Pro!! I purchased AppleCare Plus. I must say, the experience was horrible. I always held Apple in the highest regard. But now, I would NEVER recommend buying like this. Go to a store. Or the refurb site. But new straight from China? Never again. The second day, I was still trying to resolve this. While on the phone with AppleCare, the screen went completely dark; except for a faint backlight. Then the nightmare really began. And you know, never even an apology. Nothing. Getting it replaced took over a month. Interesting that still, MANY apps and softwares STILL do not run natively. It's a beast of a machine, but here we are, five months later, and it still is running Intel optimized apps thru Rosetta 2. And that's the REAL tech marvel. Without Rosetta 2, Apple silicon would basically be HIGHLY overpriced word processors ...
Since i use the MacBook Pro mostly on the go and without external screen (just recently here and there this Sidecar Feature on the iPad as 2nd screen) but its just too small the 11" iPad Air for serious work even as 2nd screen. I was also nearly buying the 14" (with 1TB SSD) but i was then thinking about the really nice, big screen, the 100Wh battery and the noticable better speakers so i was just going for the 16" base model as well. In my opinion only the 13" Base model MacBook Air (M1) or the M1 Pro 16" are the only good performance/price options, at worst the M2 Mac Mini included if its really ONLY Desktop Usage. To be honest the 16" MacBook Pro with 2kg is more handcharming than the very thin iPad Air 5 with a basic cover. The thin iPad is very uncomfortable to hold on, the "thickness" of the MacBook Pro is so much better still not to heavy (for a "regular" sized notebook)
The screen on the 14 inch is absolutely beautiful. Yes, the screen on the 16th inch is better, but not tremendously so, and the 14th inch does not ever get hot to the touch on heavy load and the fans are not loud at all. When you are taking about upgrading there is not a lot of difference in price but not overall. I have the 14th inch now and loving it. The smoothness of the trackpad, the gorgeous screen, the portablity and yes, you can play games with the cloud base Nvidia Geforce now, with a strong internet connection, or native intel base mac games with Rosetta, and unless you are a hard core gamer that has to have th highest frame rate possible and the ultimate in smoothnes, rather than just very satisfactory, then get a gaming laptop. Otherwise this laptip covers everything very satisfactory, it does not mean I will not go with the 16 inch in the furture because I love bigger screens.. The battery is also very satisfactory. A day and a half use a little above normal use wit the brightness turned down.
There's a 300 dollar difference between the two with the same spec, not 200. There's a 500 dollar difference between both base models. That's pretty considerable
Went with the 16 because the last thing you want is a fan coming on when you’re recording…. Bigger screen bigger battery bigger speakers bigger cooling no throttling…. Too funny they act as though there crippled and they’re only young….. they probably complain about packing the groceries in the house…. Maybe they have somebody do it for them🤣
Has the 14 inch really noisy fans? Even for recording? Or are you just saying thiss just because? Please tell me because this is important point for me
@@FuranGameplays i’ve watched hundreds of RUclips commentators that state the fan coming on and have recorded it… It is noticeable as to how noticeable? How does 16" for a student who types a lot ?? Does 16" feel so heavy?? It's just 2.1 kg?? Some people call 2.2 kg Alienware laptop as portable but 2.1 16" as heavy?? Does this feel so heavy in bag???
Good questions, Aksha! 16" isn't too heavy but 14" is much more portable for a student who is usually on the move. For something even more portable, have you considered the M1 Macbook Air, ruclips.net/video/SSezQH60EF8/видео.html
It is a 16inch screen in the same chassis size of the older 15inch MacBook pros. They just made the screen bigger by minimising the bevels and pushing the menu up into the notch section. Similarly the 14inch is in the same chassis size as the older 13inch MacBook pros.
You better not bother too much about the "one inch"... I still have a 2010 15" (15,4" screen) MacBook Pro and its heavier and bigger in ALL measurements than the 16" M1/M2 Pro(16,2" screen). Once i was getting used to the bigger screen and more compact 16" M1 Pro.... it was hard to use the 2010 15" at all... "small" screen, HUGE bezel, bad looking (TN Panel) especially at slight angles. Only the (in my opinion) better feeling keyboard of the "old" Macs/Apple Keyboards and for writing stuff the 15" is my "throw around" and office device, but i can also use the 2011 Apple Bluetooth keyboard on the new M1 so its pretty much barely used anymore (its getting very warm, doesnt do much or fast before battery is down etc)

So glad to hear! Thanks for watching and your support, man 1! Stay well!
the way you picked up the 14 inch by the screen killed me on the inside lmao
I think that you made the right decision. I’m saving up for the 16 inch now. I have the 15 inch from 2014, it’s time for an upgrade.
Nice job. I also tried both sizes and ended up with the 16". I'm retired and only cart it to coffee shops.
Thanks for watching and your nice words, Paul! Good choice. 😀 Enjoy your new tool!
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, ASneakyPoptart! Yup, both great choices. Let me know which one you end up choosing.
I just ordered the 14 inch m2 max a couple days ago and now I'm debating should I have gone for the 16
I chose the 14" You can always plug into an external monitor and the $500 price difference from the base 14" to base 16" Was not worth it for me.
Good choice. Thanks for watching and sharing, Thetheoryguy55! Enjoy your new too in the New Year!
How noticeable are the fans and the heat? That's the main thing keeping me undecided.
The fully maxed-out 14” MacBook Pro doesn’t perform as well as the 16” due to thermal throttling. So, if you’re going for the 14”, choose it with the Pro chip, and if you need the performance of the Max chip, the 16” is the better choice.
Better with the built-in larger trackpad on the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Yes, love the big trackpad on the 16". Thanks for watching and sharing, Rebow 256! Enjoy your great tool!
I never carry my macbook around. It stays at home/office most of the time so i bought 16inch. I carry ipad when travel.
Thanks for watching and sharing, @zerofivetwelve! That's a great set up! Which iPad do you carry when you travel?
Yes, still waiting for Apple to make a MBA with a larger display, too! Thanks for watching and sharing, Jacques! Stay well.
Have you considered a used 2019+ 16" Intel MBP, you can get them used now with good price
Do you perhaps still have older macbook pro 15 inch (for example from 2015) and could compare it's size side by side with new 14 and 16 inch macbooks? I plan to switch from old 15 inch macbook and can't decide if 14 inch would be enough.
Hey, I kinda have the same problem right now, what did you get at the end? And is it the right decision for you?
A bit too late but, the macbook pro 2015 is the exact same size as the MacBook pro 16 inch. I just did this comparison at the store yesterday
Thanks for watching and sharing, Prawnstar! Yeah, these laptops are very powerful and the 14" is the one to get for portability!
does it work well with ableton live? does ableton look small on the 14 inch screen?
Keep it plugged in and 14 is fine, I bought both and sent the 16 back as it’s way too large to pack around
How is the paid home and students version of ms office in mac?? For my accademics ms office is necessary and are there any bugs
Can you watch videos on one side and take notes/google on the other side of the 14" screen comfortably?
Thanks for watching and asking, Yirui! The windows will be small but I think you can if needed. What size screen do you have now? Are you able to do so on your screen?
The trackpad on the 16 inch is just way too big.
thanks, very usefull comparion video.
Thanks for watching, Minh! Which one are you planning to get or do you have?
Nice job! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and letting me know, meandmymonkey! Happy New Year!
Great review! I had the same difficult decisions and agreed with you in the end...that large, nice screen sold me!
Yeah, still glad I went with the 16" display! Thanks for watching and letting me know, Chad! Enjoy your new tool! Happy New Year!
Wish there was a macbook pro m2 15" . I Went for the 14" .. 16" is too big and heavy :/
Thanks for watching, @chriscs9080! Have you considered the new M2 15" Macbook Air, amzn.to/3sUdIM9?
@@Tech4Baba Its not as good as pro for software development , also pro has way way better screen.
The 16" is the same size as the 15" previously
think of it like they're both good options, with distinct advantages. I personally use it docked 80% of the time so i went for the 14". I used to own a 16" and it was just a little cumbersome in public.
Yes, both great. Amazing how much they packed into the 14". Thanks for watching and sharing, Half! Enjoy your new tool!
Thanks most helpfull video on RUclips.
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, Çağrı! Let me know what you end up with. Stay well.
finally I got my 16 M1 max, wow what an upgrade from 2015 🤣
Congrats! It's quite an update from 2020 models, too. Thanks for watching and sharing, Fitz! Enjoy your new tool.
Great comparison. Thanks
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching and letting me know, liminal! Stay well.
Very helpful review, Was the sharp edge of the laptops uncomfortable when typing? Thanks
Thanks for watching, David! Both laptops are thin so the edge doesn't bother me. The 16" is bigger so there is more space for my palms to rest on.
Awesome review. I am a photographer and need a laptop when on the go. I have been trying to determined should I get the 14in or the 16in...
Glad to hear you got what you wanted. 👍 That is a beast of machine! Congrats and enjoy it, Terry! Stay well!
hi, great video, the macs of video is Space gray?
Thanks for watching and asking, marcospreviato! Yes, they are space gray.
very informative video, i am also in the same dilemma still :)
Good to hear! Thanks for watching and letting me know, @himanshooKsaxena! Both good in their own ways. Let me know which one you end up getting.
Good choice you are not complaining like some of the guys about wait and size they need to go the gym their body will thank them, it is unbelievable listening to some of them.
Thanks for watching and sharing, Peter! Yeah, it's heavier but not that bad. Have you decided on the 16", too?
I am going to buy the 16” with 1 TB the wait and the size is not a problem, thanks for keeping it real
Sounds good. I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Thanks agin for watching and sharing, Peter!
it's not because we can't lift it lol, it's because the difference is noticeable when moving it in and out of a backpack, carrying on public transport, using in libraries, coffee shops and airports & planes.
I just can't seem to decide. I ordered the 16 inch but it feels enormous. like having a desktop on my lap ! I also need to stretch out my arms more.
@@Tech4Baba thank you for the reply. happy new year to you as well.
@Tech4Baba how about for video editing?
for the weight of the 16 inch you can bring a charger. and if you want better display just plug it in a monitor
Yeah, 14" is certainly more portable. Thanks for watching and sharing, HenThaiAddict!
What about trackpad size?
The trackpad on the 16" is larger, I compared them at 2:58 ruclips.net/video/dSIWlMAaTmg/видео.html. Thanks for watching and asking, Upkar! Happy New Year!
@@Tech4Baba Happy new year buddy
I got the base 14”. No regrets.
Yes, both 14" and 16" MBPs are great computers! Thanks for watching and sharing Stephanie!
People that think the 16 is heavy need to work out more
4K editing so these are 4K the 16in?
from the begining, the keyboard of the 16 inch is way more used. We know what your final choice is... :)
Haha, good eyes! Thanks for watching, Benja! Stay well!
I am a web dev and I don't use Apples. To me a 14" display is usable, but really not comfortable, so I would prefer 15-16".
Yeah, large display is always nice. Thanks for watching and sharing, David! Have you tried Apple computers?
Is yours the silver or space grey mbp in the video ?
Both space grey. Thanks for watching, J T! Merry Christmas!
I love the 14 inch macbook pro, it's simply amazing.
Both are great tools. Thanks for watching and sharing, isinox! Enjoy it!
Thank you for the review. What's the app in taskbar who shows the temperature and fan speed?
TG Pro. Thanks for watching and asking, Nerijus! Stay well.
Thanks very much for the review, its help alot for my decision!
Thanks for watching, tuanabc92! Which one did you end up getting?
@@Tech4Baba I just bought the space gray 14 inch and I love it! ^^
Hey there, out of curiosity, what was defective about it?
Same reason for 16inch
I picked the 16 inch.
Great choice! Thanks for watching and sharing, JSH Rabbits! Enjoy the awesome laptop!
Signed me up… lol I find it absolutely hilarious people complain about the weight…. What a baby I pack my guitars around all over the place they weigh twice as much….
It’s definitely audible I just don’t wanna take any chances better safe than sorry just my opinion….. it may never ever come on for my usage but I’d rather side on caution….
You said little on weight difference, 16” is heavy, if weight is not an issue, yea 16” but at over 1.5 pounds heaver, hummm?
Good point, Bill. The 14" is indeed much more portable than the 16". Thanks for watching and sharing!
3:19 sound test
Thanks for watching, HYEONG! Stay well.
Let me add my 2 cents, if you work a lot out of 32" monitor then 14", but if you work on a road only occasionally, then 16".
Good point, Kamerton Audiophile player! Thanks for watching and sharing! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
15 inch would be perfect but I think Apple knows the would loose out on money
The 16" is the same size as the 15" previously
The keyboard is too far away in the 16, trackpad is massive. Pita to use.
For me the bigger the better.. I don't find it hard to choose..
why can't it be 15 inch😩
That'd be great size! Hope the rumors of one come true. Which MacBook have you been using? Thanks for watching, Jann! Happy New Year!
The 16" is the same size as the 15" previously
Definitely the 16in.
BIGG MATTERS ❤
16 inch or never.
Haha, I can't resist the large beautiful display! Thanks for watching and sharing, Esmond! Stay well.
Same !!
Thanks for watching, Andrej! Enjoy it!
