Jack White is an artist I've always just taken for granted. Then I watched the recent concert for Detroit and wondered how in the FUH eminem was going to follow him onstage. Think I'll be adding some White Stripes, Racantours, etc. back to my playlist... 👀

I’m really enjoying this haha you’ve made me laugh out loud many times and I’ve only now started hearing the review. I love those stories haha poor Boatright. Did you look closely? Might’ve been ole’ “white jack” haha
one thing I’ll add: as one who discovered my love and joy for the white one in 2014…. my heart was broken and he was all “when I say nothing, I say everything “ and I was like YES!! I’m in!! haha the lyrical content in the songs from what I’ve gathered is more personal than you’d think. I reached this conclusion after I joined the Vault that year, and asked him in a chat “when will you write a love song?” And he replied, “they’re all love songs.” I was like noooo they aren’t haha but his response echoed in my mind… I’ve come to believe (a decade later) that it’s true. Love drives this man. Deeply. Try thinking about every song through that lens: when you think it’s politics, it’s Love. When you think it’s incoherent nonsense, it’s Love. When you think it’s hipster hypocrisy huff & stuff - it’s Love. It’s all LOVE.
Love straps us onto the back of “No Name” like we’re on Disney’s space mountain … click-click-click up we go …. Hold on….. up … we … go…….
the first tune has him dropping us off in the wilderness, warning us about the machine that just ate his quarter. So we see right at the start that we’re in a rock exploration of that machine. We get to feel the power of Love beckoning him higher with each song.
Spiritually, “No Name” seems like great progress in a long hard journey back to center of Johnny Guitar’s own soul. That’s where beloved sister-wife Meg still lives. She’s been everything to him. And on some level inside, she always will.
So, to me, this album is the pursuit of Love, joy, freedom, goodness, and true untethered rock. Ultimately, it’s the pursuit of God Himself…. and the sound and feel of a man transforming into his potential in Love. A revolutionary Love messenger of sorts. That’s why it’s so good. 🩵🩵🩵
Ok .. sorry haha …. Wrote a book here! Let’s talk about it sometime if you’d like, professor- that’d be great fun.
I’ll get back to your review now haha wow I hope you liked this album … wouldn’t that be funny if you say you hated it and I just didn’t watch far enough into it haha …
I’ll finish it now haha I’ll watch your Smile review next. Love Thom & Jonny!
That’s a hilarious name by the way - thank your lil’ boy! what a sweet lil’ racist you’re raising up there haha KIDDING 🎉 God bless you & yours with tons of that big pure LOVE 🤍🤍🤍🎉🎉🎉🌷🌷🌷 💙💙💙

AVAA: The New Abnormal was the Strokes’ sixth album, which was released 19 years after their debut. The Rolling Stones’ sixth album was Their Satanic Majesties Request, which was released three years after their debut. Even if we pretend that Aftermath was their real debut (just so that we only allow for one cover or less per album), that would make Sticky Fingers their sixth. By 1981’s Tattoo You, the Stones were on their 16th studio release. Artists aren’t simply as proficient as they used to be (unless you are the King Gizzard guys).
The market conditions under which they operate are too different. By the Stones’ 25th year they had released three times the albums the Strokes have released thus far. This comparison is as silly as the singles chart success between MJ and Drake, imo.

My dad toured with Loretta Lynn in '04, then in his mid-30's. On maybe 2 of the dates, Jack White appeared onstage with them. Didn’t even cross his mind whenever I discovered his music as a preteen. I incessantly asked him if whether or not he spoke with JW during either of those dates. He vaguely remembers but told me he didn't register a second of his work, deciding to keep it cordial. He was amazed by his knowledge of classic country and the first ripples of countrypolitan, so much so that he decides to collaborate with a legend as his first choice and first solo venture.
However, his own "mid-20's music death" came at age 17 around 1987.

There is a bit of chuddy post grunge tinge to him I didn't pick up on in the earlier stripes stuff, but that's all a matter of taste and maybe just how more detailed and precise his playing and tastes have gotten? In my mind i was hoping for something like a Desire but with a more lo-fi edge, but it I'm getting more of a revisiting the past but now vibe, but yeah I guess you hit the point that maybe White Jack's strength was never the kind of storytelling that could hold a Desire up? It would still be interesting to hear him try.

Jack is the ultimate technician and student of the genre of The Blues. He is a disciple of the legendary Sun House and this record harkens back to that playbook. With this album he has as many solo releases as he did with The White Stripes; the man's catalog is exceptional, and we are lucky to have him. BTW Jimmy Paige stole from Willie Dixon not the Wolf

In actual fact, Zeppelin credited Willie Dixon for two songs on the first album, Memphis Minnie on IV and Robert Johnson, Ben E King, Sleepy John Estes on other releases. All without prompting.
Just because they didnt always credit doesn't mean they never credited. They did. Over half a dozen times.
Far more stole from and ripped off Zeppelin than Zeppelin ripped off.
      Get informed, sunshine.

I’m a huge Jack White fan, but even if you exclude all the songs that Led Zeppelin covered or ripped off, they are still the greatest rock band who has existed. Each member is one of the most influential musicians in their field. Whole lot of love, stairway to heaven, dazed and confused?? Throw it in the trash. It doesn’t matter because they have over 5 hours of material that they wrote and each one of those songs would be most bands best song.
